    I bought mine ( Japanese willow made ) way back in 1977 .I set it in my concrete garage floor. Its still there . I stopped in training in 1980 but carried in with the maki mainly for breathing and exercise to get the heart rate up.Great to take up.

    Be carefull: you raise your shoulder while doing tsuki. Keep it down. Still a great training. Thanks for that video.

      @@karatemahinay Don't worry. We all have bad habbits, no matter the level. And when we get rid of them we create new ones. That's why there is only one path: training, with others.

      It was already built by my Sensei. But I believe a sawsall was used.

      No hay nada que hagas con el makiwara que no puedas hacer mucho mejor con un saco, además de muchas más cosas. No se consigue ningún beneficio pero si que puedes fastidiarte las manos y/o deformártelas que es lo que les ocurre a todos los que lo han practicado de forma intensa durante su vida.
      Hay muchas formas tradicionales de endurecimiento que no pasan por golpear al makiwara y que la ciencia ha demostrado su eficacia.

    The best najuwara is a bag. Makiwara is good for nothing.

      I agree and disagree. There’s benefits to both and just like tools, if you know how to use them it will lead to success. I do use both and each has it purpose. Thank you for your observation.

      Not sure i agree with that .I used mine for years and the guys at my dojo very rarely stopped my punches .And complained about my hard blocks.Ir sure toughen up your hands and arms.

    Put a pad on it, then you can hit it hard.
