"Rich and famous selling fish, it ain't gonna happen." Probably not, the odds are screwed against it, BUT the educational journey, the tips you pick up from folks like you, the people you meet, and the sheer happiness it brings to have, keep, breed, and study fish that interest you makes the wild ride worth every bit of the experience. 👍💓👍
One thing you can't get away from, and I experienced this in breeding reptiles, is the more money you invest up front in not only colonies of fish you intend to be your breeders, but your set up as well, the more money will come out the back end. If you get $50 fish as youngsters (lets say a group of 5, $50 fish) and raise them up and breed them, your not going to be selling $1 fish. Your going to be selling at least close to $50 fish. If you don't invest much and start with $1 fish you will be selling $1 fish. If you pony up a bunch of money ( maybe by saving up a chunk for this purpose), and say buy a group of fish that are $200 each, when you produce yours, even if the price has fallen to $100, at least you will be selling $100 fish...and many of them. Invest in your set up so you can keep the ideal water parameters, and don't be afraid to invest some real money in some species that command more. You'll enjoy it more too.
This was an extremely engaging video! Tracking data has been my latest accomplishment, date pulled eggs, date hatched, date moved to fry bin, etc. Truly looking to follow your foot steps and grow my operation. You are truly an idol in this hobby for me and I enjoy the passion you bring. All your tips are valuable but being passionate is the one I relate most to. My fish room is 56 square feet but man it is busting at the seams with passion!
Thanks for the kind words Trent! Your passion beams through, no doubt you’ll accomplish some pretty neat things in this hobby. You have the dedication and I’ve seen you persist through adversity to keep your fish keeping dream alive...I admire and respect you for that. Excited to see where your fish keeping journey takes you!
Nice video the only thing I’d add is time you have to have everything right but if the fish isn’t ready they won’t breed.waited a year almost to the day for my first super red bushy nose fry. The good news is that when I brought a bunch into my LFS they sold out in less than forty eight hours. They want all I can supply. Not getting rich but haven’t bought fish food in a while.
The only way I get famous breeding fish is when I'm in your videos!!! LOL Someone told me years ago "Breeding = Patience". This is the BEST video for anyone starting out in the breeding for profit game. Thanks for the shout-out!
Very good tips Ryan, you've come a long way lucky schmuck! 🤣. Stay awesome my friend and hopefully when human malware is over we can meet up at a fish convention
Thanks for this and your enthusiasm. I need to work on the data tracking side. I mostly breed ancistrus (common, albino, blue eye lemon, super red and calico) I'm glad you honestly that it's not a way to get rich but it can at least pay for the hobby. Keep up the good work
Great Vid Ryan! I would include having dedicated fry tanks. I'm just setting up my new fish room (This is number 4). I had to set this new one up in my basement when I broke my classroom fish room down. Since I had to house new fish quickly, I started with four 20 longs and six 10s to house the fish that I already had. Next is the fry rack, six 10s. That will be followed by a dedicated quarantine tank (a 20 long) and a cull eliminater (a 20 long with something in it that eats little fish). Having dedicated fry tanks will mean that you are always rearing fry, and a dedicated quarantine means that you don't have to juggle fish every time you find something that you just have to have. Cheers, Chris
Hey there Chris! Couldn’t imagine running so many tanks in different places. Kudos to you for the dedication and discipline it takes to keep it all going! Great point about dedicated fry tanks!
I still have many months till my fish room is built, and then I have to fit it out.... the hints are great Ryan, thank you, but the wait is killing me 😂
Don’t know if it is a problem or not but it looks like the two tanks behind you on the wood are dipping might need another support in the middle of them
@@WildFishTanks of course love all your videos. Yup plecos and shrimp can't stop breeding. I got so many babies idk what to do with them all. My lfs take some for store credit. Wish I had a local group to go to
Any tips on what food I should feed my super red bristlenose I feed them cat scrapers, green beans, and algae wafers. Should I mix more into their diet or not. And do you also know of any other good fish to breed for profit, I am doing super reds now, but I would like to do something else. Thank you
Ryan, I so enjoy your video's.......Thank You PS, It might be the camera angle, but it looks like the top fish tanks behind you are starting to sag, check it out
with discus i have bought proven pair and then they starting fighting. i had to split them up. then i have went local fish store and watched discus for 15 min. and picked a pair out of the tank and laid eggs in three days . i have some that i have grown and let pair off and and are laying now too .i have got ugly(colors didnt look good and had razor heads discus but they good plate shaped) at 3" that turn in awesome breeders. i'm up to 4 pairs of uncle sam discus and fry in my tanks. i dont wan to be a master breeder . i'm just having fun. p.s.i heard you was a master baiter .lol just kidding
Yeah man I hate that I had to remove my awesome kuhli loaches from my shrimp tank cuz I know for a fact they will eat baby and even adult shrimp if they are lazy/hungry, I still have otocinclus in there which I may put back in their fish tank, but I REALLY struggle to remove my last hillstream loach because even if the energetic butterfly motions can smack and outright kill a newborn shrimp, for now it seems to benefit more the breeding environment by fluffing up the mulm at the bottom to get it back into the water column. I suppose when my 55 gallon is nearing 1000+ shrimps I may need to take it out but it ll be sad cuz for me it was an ultra rare find, a spotted hillstream loach which looks absolutely stunning. 🥲 Man those sacrifices you gotta make just to create ideal breeding grounds are so harsh!

Hey Bentley! Human malware 😂😂😂, that would be awesome! I’m hoping to make it up to the Pacific Northwest eventually.
I’m no where close to being a master Breeder myself but I agree with you on all these. I struggle with tip number 3 as well

@@WildFishTanks Thank you very much for your help
Sir is it available in India
@@raktimdas1861 Unfortunately I don’t know the answer to that.
Lol rich and famous selling fish lol it ain’t gonna happen
how often do you feed your bn pleco fry?
Usually twice a day. I like to keep them in tanks with driftwood, algae, etc so they can always graze too
Do you participate in a local club breeding program?
I don’t but I want to. I don’t have a super local club but I do belong to the Tampa Bay aquarium society
Great words of wisdom for successful breeding.
Too much gain on the audio
