- Legends of enormous humans are a staple of folklore and mythology. Most cultures in Earth’s history have stories about giants. Kaimere is the same. While not all aspects of giant folklore are true, the hinterlands beyond the known world are teeming with all sorts of oversized beings.
Songs of the Inland Sea is the sequel to Tales of Kaimere! It is a nautical anthology, with all six short stories and novellas taking place in aquatic settings. There are heists on a ship, a desperate chase through a marsh, and a survival story from the perspective of a killer whale!

Good thing the Assembly hasn't yet encountered Swamp Ogres. They tend to yell out loudly at people in their swamps.
Bad Scottish accent : get out me swamp !
Somebody once told him
@@user-wy4fc6pn6ethe world was gonna roll him
The orgres communicating with probosidens is really fascinating like could they understand eachother's infrasonic sounds
I wonder if dinosaurs would have “tapped” into this network too, with sauropods and larger theropods probably using infrasound. Not sure there would have been much negotiation outside of “get lost” “no u”.
@@tompotter8703 fascinating
@@tompotter8703 would make sense. The large predators that hint large animals would benefit in being able to pick up these sounds, even if they can’t understand it.
@@lucassmith7770 well that makes sense
It's really interesting to see this series make fantasy creatures that are normally hybrids of other animals (griffins, owlbears, dragons ect) as natural animals *then* we get to simple fantasy creatures that are generally just big ugly humans and make *them* the unnatural multi spices hybrids, make for some very unique creatures
Thank you!
Imagine being a Logger, in this crazy world full of giant animals and actual monsters. You're trying to find a good place to work and then you noticed one of the trees has human face, then that faces looks at you.. then the tree just *walls away*
I like to portray Ogres and Trolls as animals that convergently evolved to look like hominids
That titanosaur: Bites tree, tree screams. 'This is tree, trees dont scream!' Stomps wealcantrow to death. 'The natural order has been restored!'
It just hit me that he is using speculative evolution to recreate a fantasy setting. I love it, that has never been done!
Check out the anthologies, they are very good, and then you get to see what he is building this all for.
Absolutely! Kaimere is really just a setting for my literary work
@@TalesofKaimereAt some point, when you get big enough, this world would lend itself well to a roleplaying game. You could potentially license it out to a game developer. Or find some spirited individuals to jury rig a DnD based game set in Kaimere and release it online publically for free. Acting as a form of advertising for your books. I'm no business expert though, just a thought I had.
@@TheEarlofManwhich holy shit a DnD campaing in Kaimere would go incredibly hard
I'm loving this mixture of science fiction and fantssy with this setting!
Thank you! Yeah I want the setting to have a distinctly fantasy vibe while still being on the more grounded side of speculative fiction
@TalesofKaimere what about living stone somehow alein life form
I love the giants of Kaimere! My favorite have to be the prairie giants.
I can't thank you enough for your work, as you directly inspired the creation of my own sauropod-sized humanoids, The Titans, which resulted in one of the funnest D&D sessions I've ever run!
I would love to see that black-comedy moment of an angry, hungry titanosaur coming across that poor Wealcantrow.

I would love to see the look on my DND players faces when I tell them the ogre has a stealth check near as good as the Rogue’s!
Seriously though, I think stealthy giants are really underrated and even generally more realistic
It's so cool that the Hill Ogres can communicate with the Mammoths, this creates many interesting possibilities! It's especially interesting that they don't consider each other to be kin, but are willing to cooperate with each other.
Absolutely! As ogres smell human there’s clearly no kinship, but they are both sophont beings
@@TalesofKaimere This is why I especially love Kaimere, the dynamics between the species are so much more interesting than what we usually see, same with the Tyrants "farming" the hadrosaurs in the Tyrant dynasty!
Trolls seem to have some megaraptoran genetic structure implemented in theirs, don’t they? Truly wonderful piece of art, wish DnD’s trolls would look like that.
I think that now I realize how dangerous Kaimere is.
Well, I seriously thank you for this amazing episode on Ogres and Trolls and Giants.
Although, it begs this question, what lurks beyond the known world?
Thank you! And there are so many things beyond the known world…
Mammal-like dragons, Titanosaur-hunting raptors, giant hell-pigs, super-size sea serpents, echolating super-predators

I wonder what they think of the first children, do the appreciate them? Do they hate them? Do they even remember the little guys?
Also I think you should make a story in which a naturalist from earth reads to Wealcantriw the works of Tolkien, specifically anything that has to do with Ents
Many of them have legends of the First Children. Most are horror stories and cautionary tales

Another fantastic episode! I’m glad we’re getting to hear about the giants of Kaimere. The imagery of a group of giants facing down an uktan was one of the highlights of Songbird’s Lament and I’m really glad that next week’s episode is about the Harpies.
Thank you! Yeah that was a very fun sequence to write.
Damn!! This is the most realistic folkloric interpretation of Giants and other Ogroid entities I have ever seen! That titanosaur: 'So I started stomping.'
are their any areas in the world of kaimere where members of tyrannosauridae, carcharodontosauridae or megalosauridae as the apex predator mabye even a member of spinosauridae? (like an isolated population on an island), and will we ever get an episode about the northern polar continent and its inhabitants
As a not-Keenan Taylor.
Is it very (un)likely that all of the clade you mentioned might still persist on an isolated island and continent. Specifically, the Crown of Kairul and maybe, just maybe in the North Polar Continent as those area are not effected by the Dynastic Extinction.
Also not Keenan, but I have seen him say that Spinosaurs are extinct on Kaimere. Dieing out during an arid period before the tyrant dynasty. I find it highly unlikely Carcharodontosaurids survive just due the to the fact they where highly specialized giants by the end of the tyrant dynasty and would probably not survive such a large extinction. Jury’s still out on megalosaurids but I find their existence unlikely as well. Tyrannosaurs still survive though.
He a has stated all carcharodontisaurs are extinct in kiamere a s a whole
Wow! What a fantastic episode! I really like how you did the trolls! Trolls are some of my favorite mythological beasts, and yours are very unique! I also enjoyed the design and behavior of the Forest Ogre! Once i figure out how to go about it, I'll absolutely make these beings and the others into figurines.
Oh that’s very exciting! Glad you enjoyed!
interesting take on trolls with them being part dinosaur
Not sure if I appreciate you not making a swamp ogre or if I wanted you to embrace the meme lol
Well the trolls live in swamps but they don’t really fit the meme either. They actually eat people after all lol
Felt like low hanging fruit you know?
@@TalesofKaimere perfectly understandable.
Trolls are some of my favourite fantasy creatures so I’m very happy they have been added to kaimere thank you
Be awesome to have a story where nasiri and his group hunt down a band of lesser trolls then encounter a large one
This "Homunculies Month Special" is very amazing, facisnating and incredible !
As the videos about the differents Living Magic of Kaimere from 2021 only gave us a brief overview of all these beings made by the First Children.
Every week, I'm absolutely blown away by the world of Kaimere.
Are there any societies with both Human and Gaints together? Maybe outside the known world?
Definitely mixed societies of Kaimerans and Homo altus, and sometimes all three ogres live among them
I noticed the revision of the Hukolgur! Looks much better imo
And also, are we ever going to get a history of Kaimere video, alongside the nations of the known world? It would be fascinating to know what happened after the first children disappeared
It’s something I would definitely be interested in!
So funny that when I clicked on this video. It’s was released 1 minute ago, 0 view. But somehow already has 5 likes 😂😂😂
People like it before watching cause they know they are not gonna get disappointed
Something I wonder on the Forest Ogres, mainly, are the reason they attack Qajarith Loggers and Miners in the mainland because of past historical trauma? After all Qajar in modern times seems to be pretty colonial and imperialistic, so it seems Forest Ogre settlements are cautious of them
A reasonable assumption
OK, now THIS is epic
you know there's just something about mobile plants thats just the greatest thing I mean everything from groot to fangorn and what ever the heck “Whoever knows fear burns at the touch of the Man-Thing!” means there's just something about angery trees
In almost every popular folklore of earth there are references (in different declination) about ogres, giants, little men ecc. I am often convinced that could be remembrances of other human/hominid species that long ago shared the planet with us
I think it’s simple as being an easy and exciting thing to imagine
Once again, Amazing work brother! I find your take on giants to be far more compelling & creative more than any other popular media like AOT 😄
Thank you!
Been waiting for this video
Since the hill ogres communicate with mammoths and stegodonts, has Munarak encountered them in the past?
Yes he had some ogres in his army
@@TalesofKaimere Wow. So does that mean a few moved to Qajar after the republic formed?
@@operandwriter There any Stegodonts on mainland Arvel and in the Highland of Arvel, only one dwarf species in one of the Southern Islands isles.
In the Arvelith Highland, there only the Mammoth Bosuga and the Palaeoloxodon Drenduga.
@@operandwriter As their presence goes against the Republic stance on 'abominations' they probably didn't feel particularly welcome, but Munarak does have a few he keeps employed as mercenaries.
@@TalesofKaimere It's something good, in order to show to others Qajarith that these specific giants are pacific, are gentles giants, and aren't a threat to people if these latter don't provoke them, unlike the Forest Ogre or the Trolls.
Which is a good positive message to give, as it's important to not put everyone in the same basket.
This world you have created is so detailed. I cant imagine how you keep everything in order.
Thank you! It can be a lot to keep track of sometimes for sure lol. Thankfully names are the only thing to really give me a hard time. It’s very funny to me when someone asks me about a Kaimere name and I have to look it up
As always It was a very good episode !
Especially since most of what we get as topics and videos are about either the animals clades present on kaimere or Humans/Kaimeran societies realted stuff.
Honestly, I didn't understand why we had to wai so much time before peope sponsored, in a single row on top of that, several videos about Homunculies, Cryptids and others Magic related topics domain.
It should have even being the very first thing people should have gived they money for, to you, at the start of this channel.
Because it's a realistic Spec Evo project, yet you managed to realistically (okay some plot devices here and here, but still a great level of realism) to put in this setting mythical and fantasy beasts that couldn't have evolved naturally otherwise.
So, people should had been more interested about the why, how and what of that !
But I guess that Dinosaurs and Prehistoric fauna are more popular than Mythical Beast created by tiny evil kids that thought to be gods and played with powers they didn't understand and have finally surpassed them...
So happy I stumbled on this channel! The presentation and design is impeccable! It’s like sitting in on a really cool college presentation.
Thanks so much! I like to structure it rather academically so I'm glad that's coming through well!
I have no idea why, but the music makes me think of the song Orinoco Flow for some reason.
You certainly have a way of making Giants and Ogres unique without depicting them as villainous, ugly brutes. I'm very surprised by infrasonic communications in the Hinterland Giants. The Trolls' dinosaur faces certainly are scary, but certainly cool. The Wealcantrow is super neat, a Kaimeran Ent in a way!
Amazing work, Keenan! Keep up the great and inspiring work!
Thanks so much!
Kaimere Shrek parody when?
Are any of the giants, ogres, trolls, etc...able to ride the giant elephants, mammoths, mastodons, or clawed horses (forgot their name) of Kaimere, or are they too heavy?
I wish one of these creatures would be a bit more adventurous and travel the other realms of this world as a mercenary. Maybe get a giant mount no less.
Yes indeed! I actually have an old sketch of an ogre riding a ghlanos. Conveniently, the light weight of giants mean they can ride some of the largest beasts
great as usual. hey in the video where you talked about eusocial insect eaters you did not mention bees and wasps are there any in kaimere and you just did mention them or did bees and wasps did not make their way into kaimere as eusocial insects?
some types of wasps definitely did, bc ants did, but i think the big thing there is that you don’t tend to see the same level of specialization for social wasp and bee predation as you do for ant predation
There are bees and wasps, but as Jesse said, there aren’t dedicated specialists for them in the way that there are for termites, conifer mites, and ants
@@TalesofKaimereIt’s really interesting, because specialists do occur but primarily on an individual level, vs species level of ants, termites, and conifer mites.
Fascinating episode. You have created a great world for Kaimere. Really inspiring.
Thank you!
Yo the trolls look metal as hell! Amazing work as always Keenan!
Thanks a bunch!
I always enjoy encountering, great giants
The homunculi videos we’ve seen are all quite fascinating and this video was no exception! Well done as always.
Has there been any studies into homunculi that have attempted replication of the process based on hypotheses? Or do such experiments cross a line that the Assembly/Great Library isn’t willing to cross?
Nice video on giants. Some questions:
1. Any giants composed of ghlanos?
2. Did other giants (such as hill ogres, forest ogres, trolls, and wealcantrows) made it to Kairul?
3. Considering dragons have air sacs and photosynthetic cells, technically would they be considered homunculi (even though breeding with natural wild dragons)?
4. What pressured the hinterland giants to evolve into being large?
1. If there were, that strain has either gone extinct or been absorbed into other giants. While the leading theory is boar and a proboscidean are responsible for the non-titan expressions of common ogres, it's possible that ghlanos is responsible for it. Their feet have an elephantine quality to them, but some scholars argue they're also pretty close to ghlanos feet.
2. There are reports of Kairulan wealcantrow, but at least one examined was a tree with human influence, not a human with tree influence, so likely not the same thing. When the Maku traveled from Qajar to Kairul, they were accompanied by many homunculi, so there may be giants not yet discovered by the Assembly. Dead Tree Grandmother from a story in Songs of the Inland Sea was a strain of magic which bound a woman to a tree, but that was thought to be wild magic (which may have been the template used by the First Children to create wealcantrow).
3. Some would argue yes. They don't appear to have been made by the First Children, but there is a striking similarity in the domestication process.
4. During their time on the prairies before the arrival of houze grass, being long-legged was extremely good adaptation for efficient travel. It was not selected against once they got to other regions. They grow faster than humans, reaching maturity a bit earlier as an adaptation to such a high-stress ecosystem.
Feral dragons be the giants versions of wild dragons.
Hi Keenan! Really loving your work on this entire project, and it's actually what gave me the final push to include basically-dinosaurs in my own work in progress, seeing how you've implemented them so damn well, so thanks for that.
I noticed you said the ogre speech was your own edited voice, so do you do the sound mixing for all your creatures as well?
Thanks! I do the sounds for some creatures, but mostly they are edited from sounds available on EpidemicSounds, like horse, raven, and leopard calls
the fact the walking trees have bark made of keratin is absolutely cursed
I tried to imagine the worst way to make an ent and this was the result

@@TalesofKaimere Your Welcome 🤗
I like the trolls! Might make for a good horror story.
Here’s an idea: Goblins. Perhaps a Kaimeran descendant of Homo florensis. Kaimeran goblins, bro!
I do have small Homunculi that will go by goblins
@@TalesofKaimere That'll be just as good. Maybe a mixture of humans and bats and are around the size of children. If they're Homunculi, perhaps the First Children would use them as recon scouts during times of war. Either hominid descendants or Homunculi, goblins are awesome little buggers!
Have creatures like giants, harpies or merfolk tamed or domesticated any creatures that humans haven't?
Tamed yes, not domesticated. The long lives of large animals generally exclude them from domestication
Which one of these ogres will enjoy smashmouth the most?Sidenote, I really like your hommimculi designs.
The Ogres could make fantastic weapons of war. a trained ogre slinger would be able to probably match the power of siege engines, except for rapid-fire and mobile
Absolutely. They were an invaluable component in the Imperial Army as they conquered the Crescent.
@@TalesofKaimere in melee against humans, one of their best options would be steel-tipped boots with good leg protection! aside from that...giant scythes, with straight double-edged blades mow down humans with maximum efficiency.
Yeah, my third prediction came true. It is nice to see some expansion for this topic with my favourites being trolls and wealcantrows. Also looking at this scythe I think you watched ceratin sword and machiculation enjoyer.
Heck yeah. Shad’s gone off the rails the past few years but his early videos on fantasy rearmed or whatever the series was called were really solid
I wonder if for these Ogres the years start coming & they don't stop coming?
Considering dragons have air sacs and photosynthetic cells, would they technically be considered homunculi (even though breeding with natural wild dragons)?
That is a leading theory, yes. The domestication of dragons certainly goes beyond standard domestication, especially since domesticates are smaller than their wild counterparts unless explicitly and for a long time bred with size as a priority.
Yet again you push the limits of human imagination
11:11 that is a very pretty piece of artwork
Thanks!
I'm curious about the language of the prairie giants, I would like to know more
nice
What were the uses for trolls by the first children? Though it may have been to help in culling no?
Are most of the morphological changes in giants made by editing genes (including those that characterize expression) or more so by indirectly affecting development via domesticated magic?
Bit of both: magic impacts the development via editing the homeobox and others that impact morphological growth
Did the partially infrasonic speech you included for the prairie giant/ogre translate to anything in particular?
Nope. Just editing myself saying a couple snippets of dialogue
I particularly like the hill ogres, not quite as mean as the forest variety. Will megaraptorans kill trolls they find? I would think their relationship would probably be antagonistic one way or the other but I am still curious.
I like the Hukolgur update, they really do look like they would be more than willing to eat you for accidentally bumping into them. Even the cub is about the size of a black bear (if not bigger) 💀.
Omg were those growls backmasked
Yes. I haven’t yet made the ogre language beyond a couple words but wanted to convey the general vibe

QUESTION: do praire giants ride any animals?
just having the cool imagery in my head of them riding a titanosaur
They sometimes ride ghlanos, but titans aren't amiable to such things.
@@TalesofKaimere surely there's one or two minor exceptions... like one or two individual titans that are more amiable than the rest.... right?
@@taliesincoleman6569 No, not surely. The experimentations one would have to do to find a titan that wouldn't immediately try to kill a rider would result in hundreds of dead ogres. I will not confirm such a thing, but I won't rule it out.
@@TalesofKaimere fair enough.
Why are Ogres commonly talked about here as if they’re just animals and not sophonts and basically just human cultures like Kaimerans and Hinterland Giants?
Because the focus was on their biology not their culture. I take the same angle when talking about Kaimeran peoples in bio focused videos. However, there were still word choices, like men/women instead of male/female and lover instead of mate.
What would happen if a Wealcantrow got lost in the Ushalek I'm geussing it would become assimilated by the forest like most other creatures or would the Ushalek let it walk around safely?
While the wealcantrow can trick humans, their mimicry is insufficient to fool a plant god. If a wealcantrow does enter the Üshalek, they are quickly killed and taken over by real foliage.
@@TalesofKaimere that is what I thought would definitely be interesting to see a wealcantrow in the Ushalek
Can armed and potentially armored praire giant's take down megaraptorans? Both are lightly built goliaths. I could see a small group of praire giants with pointy force multipliers taking down a megaraptoran that was threatening the group.
I actually have such an encounter briefly shown in one of my stories! In that particular case they were fighting over a corpse. Three ogres harassed the uktan for a while, but eventually it lunged at one. He fell, a dangerous situation for one so tall, and the ogres backed down. Important to remember that while ogres are taller, uktan are around 6 times heavier. Spears and sling stones are potent weapons that can make up the difference, especially in a group, but in that particular case they lost the engagement. I could certainly see a situation in which the ogres not only chased off an uktan but even kill one, though their numbers would likely take a hit as well. In general, ogre avoid uktan and are on the theropod's menu.
