    Elizabeth line is awesome. Went on it first time a few weeks ago when coming back to London from overseas. Big trains, fast speed and so many new stations! Should be a great help moving many many people around London. Just what the city needed!

    Now Shenfield to Heathrow non-stop. Back in 2002-2004, when I studied at Brentwood school as an international student, my typical trip to Heathrow was: Brentwood to Stratford on First Great Eastern class 315, Central Line to Mile End, District line to Baron's Court, Piccadilly to Heathrow. By this way, all transfers are co-platform. I could travel with bags without too much hassle. The cost was around, IIRC, 6.10 pounds on Travelcard with Young Person discount.

    Years ago, 1980s, very few people used Maryland station. I think it had a train about every twenty minutes, so for most people it was quicker to walk to the main station at Stratford; it’s about a ten minute walk. Now, with a service every seven minutes, quite a lot of people are using the station.
    Hanwell is also seeing increased usage.

    Any non class 345s go thru the tunnel when the line is closed for maintenance/engineering work? Plus what will happen if a class 345 breaks down in the tunnel as it is 12 miles long [and if passengers can use the emergency walkway to transfer onto another train]?
    (The text in [ ] was not included when i first posted this comment)

    • @Ro99
      @Ro99 Год назад +2

      I don’t think any non-345s would because the station doors are designed to fit them specifically. I’d assume there are special trains for recovery but I’m not too sure.

    • @annabelholland
      @annabelholland Год назад +1

      @@Ro99 thats why i said: when its 'closed for maintenance/engineering work' in the original comment. Ik that non class 345s do not go in the new tunnel sections under normal circumstances because of the platform edge doors (PED) and also possibly the signalling systems. If not, they have to treat it like driving on the roads and 'stop in the distance you see to be clear' but doing it for 12 miles at 10mph is a pain
      I also forgot to mention what will happen if the train breaks down and if passengers are able to use the emergency walkway (which i suppose is also used for maintenance) to move onto another train

    • @Ro99
      @Ro99 Год назад +2

      @@annabelholland I guess an empty 345 goes in and parks next to the broken down one? Then I guess they get out walk along and go into the train. I think that’s what you mean.
