People say that, but I’ve watched it both ways and it really didn’t matter. Especially since the cast are the ones doing the dub.
@@bluetai8515 the cast are only doing the dub in season 1 and 2 though. Not in season 3.
@@bluetai8515but that helps but only a BIT because at the end of the day English is not their first language so the emotions aren’t fully there in the dubbed version the way they are in the sub

@@Frances86 aha okay. But as Edvin is a main character I then not recommend dubs. I never recommend dubs anyway. You don’t get the same emotions. 🥰
In Sweden we never dub foreign films or series to Swedish. Always subs. Then you learn other languages. The exeption are programmes for very young kids.

idk tbh. ive watched it w both n i think that young royals is one of those shows that is perfect either way considering the actors dubbed their own characters in english (apart from s3)

This show is so good. This show touches on so many themes, I love it. Please continue reacting to it. At least the actual actors do the English dub so it doesn't sound bad. But it's definitely better in the actual language. The show takes place in Sweden.
This show is so much more than a queer love story. There are so many important personal, social and political themes here that aren’t about same sex couples, or even royalty and SSC. To stop spoilers dead I won’t say a thing about the multiple important themes I picked up on. One of them I have never seen so completely driven home this way in fiction before. This story is not the safe space that Heartstopper and Red, White, and Royal Blue are. I think it’s so beloved, it went so huge into a worldwide phenomenon, because towards the second half of season one you if you stop just experiencing it and start thinking about it, it’s apparent how incredibly top notch the all the writing, all the directing, the intimacy co-ordination and all the acting is. This is an incredibly thought out, bravura production by a very special team.
This show was pushed and pulled into a shape where multiple extreme circumstances were delivered in an entirely natural, believable way. It became a ‘Slice Of Life’ (which is a genre that depends on a very low stakes story) that got set in a hothouse, high pressure environment for all students and adults involved. It is the natural, believable delivery that creates the Slice Of Life feel among high tension stakes.

Omar Rudberg, the guy playing Simon (the boy singing in choir) really is doing his own singing even in English. He was famous in his own right before the show as a member of a Swedish boy band.

Yes, by all means watch all three seasons. It's a magnificently written and acted series. But, PLEASE, watch it in Swedish with subtitles as someone has suggested below.
i have to say that the show is so much better in swedish and with subtitles. it’s cool that the actors themselves dubbed it but they are much better at acting in swedish. and i say this as someone who speaks swedish.
Simon and Sara’s mom mostly speaks Spanish to them. Sara usually responds in Swedish. Simon responds in either Spanish or Swedish.
Felice’s roommate does speak English. She’s American and understands Swedish, but she doesn’t like to speak Swedish to them since she’s self-conscious about it.

Believe it or not, the grossest part of the hazing is significant because, "everything in the script is there for a reason." If you enjoy a complex and intricate story line, despite it being about high school students, you will love this series. A story deeply about class is what this is. A good example, the translation has August calling Simon a "socialist." The Swedish word is actually "sosse" which does translate to socialist but really means someone who probably votes Social Democrat and therefore probably poor and lower class. So August is really, casually dissing Simon, someone he doesn't even know.
This is my the most favourite show, it is much better in original language, all the nuanses of emotions are better expressed.

I would like for you to continue and I'll rejoin your patreon but I'll wait until it's a for sure thing. I joined almost a year ago when the unedited was released on Patreon but left after it became clear it wasn't going to be continued at least at the time. Edited to add, not a dig or anything, I just literally only join patreons for Young Royals and Ted Lasso.
Love that you're doing this show, please do watch all of it! It gets a lot more complicated and interesting and would love to see your thoughts on it.
Few things about this one:
- it's definitely better to watch the original version but if you're really can't do subtitles than no worries. At least the actors dubbed their own lines in English so you're hearing their real voices!
- Simon singing in this episode isn't dubbed because he's already singing in English. The actor actually is/was a professional singer and used to be in a band.
- you are correct that girl is actually speaking English even in the original version, because she's a foreign exchange student. Simon's family speaks a mix of English and Spanish because they're immigrants from Latin America
- your point about how for will "everything is fake, nothing/no one is real" is spot on and very important for his character!

Fun fact: for the first 2 seasons the actors dubbed themselves in English, I believe one or two didn’t. But then in the last season Edvin (Wilhem) couldn’t do the dub - I don’t remember if more couldn’t too, but I know for sure he didn’t.
Please continue watching the series but in swedish and with subs! It hits so much harder that way

Oh I am gona love watching your reactions to this show since the show is among other things very much about clasism. This show gets you so emotional worked up in many ways. So please do continue 🙏🏻. And by the way the show is swedish and one of the girls do speak english. She is a foreign exchange student from New York. And ”Simon” the actor is acctually a famous artist who tried out for acting during the pandemic due to no singingjobs during that time. He does a great job for beeing his first acting job. The Prince Wilhelm’s actor is a big actor in sweden and has acted since he was five years old. As you can tell, I love this show ☺️

A couple of bits for clarity from over here in Europe:
- Swedish schools are free. If Hillerska had space, they have to accept Sara and Simon. The cost is associated to the boarding aspect, not the education
- you can legally drink alcohol at 18 but can’t buy it until 20. Their dad basically deals it to underage kids and it’s confirmed later he’s a recovering alcoholic & drug user
Please keep watching. It’s the only show I’ve ever watched where I am continually surprised episode to episode. Also, August is a dick, but he’s a complicated dude

Yayyyyyy love this show!!! It's a Swedish show, and yes there are a lot of languages lol. Maddison (the girl speaking English & it looks like it's not dubbed) is actually speaking english. The actress was more comfortable speaking that, so they kept it that way ig it makes sense bc it's a snobby rich person school. Simon's (the guy that you like) actor is Venezuelan but grew up in Sweden, so they kept his roots with his family! I know a lot of people are saying the subbed is better (which I do agree), but if you aren't able to pay attention that well to the story with subs then I think it's fine watching the dubbed- mainly because the 2 main actors do all of their dubbing (except season 3).
WAIT - Is this show back on the table for Danny to watch?? I'm a Patron and remember he watched the pilot way back but didn't think he was going to continue with it. Initially I didn't even know if I wanted him to because even though I am OBSESSED and the queer love story is definitely what drew me in I didn't think it'd necessarily do the same for him 😅 BUT after giving it some thought I actually would LOVE to hear Danny's take on this brilliant series because of the narrative around social class which is a huge part of the story, and I know he has expressed having a lot of feelings about. It is just a fantastically made series and truly any reason to rewatch it I'm here for LOL- but also genuinely think Danny would appreciate and enjoy.

The dad is kinda known for buying alcohol for underage kids, in sweden it’s very hard to buy alcohol in stores when you’re not old enough so a lot of kids find older people who are okay with buying it for them.

this is a short series only 3 seasons 6 episodes per season. It gets better and better as the season go on. Its a great show.Its got drama and it heavily deals with Classicism...and the characters will surprise you greatly.
Please watch/react to the whole series. And like others said try it in the original language w/subtitles.

Yes! You should definitely continue watching, about the sub dub thing I see many comments, usually I watch only in subs and recommend the same to others whenever it comes up for any show.. But I didn't mind this one as much as i thought, and you didn't miss the moments where that girl just talks in english almost always and everyone responds in swedish or simon singing in english not being dubbed. If it works better for you don't mind us
