why not use a system we have in India called One Time Password or OTP....India is a high risk country for theft but very lowest at credit card crime because of strong banking system....with indian credit cards you can only do a transaction with OTP that is sent to you thru mobile SMS service which is encrypted service and cannot be easily intercepted, to complete ur transaction....this is for online now but even at merchants place u can implement one time password to complete the transaction.
You can "redirect" SMS in a mobile network using "Signalling System 7" (SS7) hack. It is not simple attack but it can be done... An attacker can trick your operator to think your phone is in another country (roaming) and redirect all incoming calls and messages to his own fake operator to read them.
I doubt that.. U must be the 5% if the world that pays Walmart check cash fee. I hate credit cards and don't have them but I still gotta damn debit card.
I sanded the magnetic stripe off my ATM card with sandpaper. Now the ATM will not open the door in the slot so I cannot insert my card. My next step will be stopping using ATMs and taking cash out of the bank in person.
I swear if somebody adds one more thing for me to be paranoid about I am quitting modern society and moving to an island somewhere. Not only is everything in life a subscription service that nickle and dimes you every month, but every time you make an account to be nickle and dimed you risk having your info stolen or password stolen, or social security number stolen, or phone hacked, or computer getting a virus or key logger. Don't forget insurance which just creates a system in which hospitals can get away with charging outrageous prices for an aspirin. Adulting sucks can I just be a kid playing in the back yard again? With my only worries being learning my times tables?
Frack then their is the physical things the wankers can do to things you own like keying vehicles with very little to no consequences I mean it just happened to me the other day 500 pound worth of damage and Police are useless
Here in the UK I have never seen someone use the magnetic strip on a bank card. Every business that takes card uses chip and pin. Its been like that for decades.
dont the credit dosent require a pin only if its debit frpm cheking you haveaaa choicepinn or no pin an atm needs apin or cash back on a purchase so credit on devit catd dosent need a pina transit machine asks your zip xode
This could be avoided by giving customers a coordinate card (a card with a grid of many different 4-digit numbers). Whenever they were to make a purchase, the POS machine could point the customer to a specific coordinate in his card (e.g. A1, A2, B1, etc), and the transaction would only be successful if the customer then enters the correct number. Would make thieves need to have both the credit card AND the coordinates card. Giving the customer time to report the theft of the two before any crooks can make too many transactions.
We have a small local bank that does that. They give you a grid card alongside your credit card for security but the major banks tend to not do that which is less secure.
quaker91 bitch, Canada is great, nearly no crime and police officers don't go around shooting poeple. There also has never been a school shooting in my province, ever.
Yeah Just like how most cars in Canada still use HUBCAPS and dont even have BACKUP CAMERAS lol. We had backup cameras and haven't used habcaps for like decade now.
Dang! Someone just went on a bender in New Orleans using my debit card. Hope it was fun. I was in Dallas. Trying to figure out at what point that could happen.
To those that don't know, you don't have to use only a 4 digit pin. At many ATMs, you can change your pin number from the default 4-digit code they give you, to a longer one. 5, 6, 8 digits if you want. It works well when you have 2 digits the same so 84475 for example, since any mini spy cams won't think you have extra digits, since you're still pressing 4 buttons.
@@rebeccahetrick6576 My old bank got bought out, so i had to switch banks. My new bank doesn't allow more than 4 digits. But i would love to go back to having a longer pin.
It's funny because in Europe when you open an account they ask for a phone number to link to your account. When you pay online, after inserting the card details, the bank sends you a unique security key via SMS and to confirm the purchase you need to insert that code too, or else the transaction won't go through.
Yes, but that is why fraudsters will test cards on various websites, attempting to crack the code by sending as many as hundreds, possibly thousands of transaction attempts until they finally get an authorization. Some even set up fake businesses via identity theft to do nothing but test cards.
Apparently there are less desirable sites that do not ask for the CVV code. Also some very questionable sites that offer services of acquiring cash from credit cards without the use of the CVV. Security is become very difficult, the best methods all involve prevention by having the consumer stay alert to there transactions.
But the Chip isn't much safer either, smartphones can be used to steal all the credit card information needed just by being near a persons wallet or purse. Then thanks to all the wireless acceptance for paying they can use there phone to pay with your credit card anywhere they want, and even if they ID the person they won't know it isn't you because the information on it doesn't show your name or anything.
***** The chip is actually called a R.F.I.D. which stands for radio frequency Identification Device. it emits a short range (inches) radio signal that any Bluetooth enabled device can with the right software intercept and record. Then its as simple and replaying the recording back to a credit card machine that has the phone swiping capability or even creating their own R.F.I.D. with your information on it. The best method of prevention currently is some shielded sleeves and wallets they make that block radio frequencies and thus prevent a person from acquiring your cards simply by proximity.
we have chip and pin its just that its expensive for companies to implement because most places have literally upgrade there register systems just to be able to use the chip and pin system and so its a very slow process and no the government is not giving companies money to switch to the new system because it would make the feds go broke.
I was just in a store in Montreal 5 days ago and they didn't even have a credit card terminal. They were using a machine from the 80's. Then they called the credit card company to approve the purchase. Something I have nerver seen but people would tell me about. In the US, I can pay with my credit card even to buy a Hotdog. The poor girl at the store looked a bit frustrated, but that's the way that store works. So, is not that the US is outdated and Canada is oh so advanced. Each store is different. eh Heck, now most of the time I pay with my phone... Even in Canada I paid with my phone in few places.
wouldn't it be easier to just have a PIN number that is sent to your cell phone with each transaction over a set dollar amount? and it changes randomly with each use? That way you would need to steal the phone info as well as the card info.....a much harder feat to pull off.
Jethrobodine75 what you speak of is, is an Authenticator. in some respects yes that would help however. however hackers would just find a way to emulate your phone number and then emulate your Authenticator. in fact they probably would only need to emulate your phone number to emulate your Authenticator. much more difficult yes but probably not completely impossible.
My mother was pulling money for the atm and I seen the video with the atm slimmer and I got scared and started looking around before she put her card in
My credit card companies text me immediately after every purchase. I've actually been at the checkout register swiping my card and a text will come thru asking me to verify if I am making a the purchase at that location and if I don't reply back immediately, the purchase is rejected. It's a bit of a hassle because you gotta respond quick but I love it!!
Three years ago, I found a skimmer planted on a Wells Fargo ATM. It was a half dome green colored overlay that went over the card slot. I removed it and contacted the non-emergency number of police and gave it to them. Since that time, Wells Fargo ATMs has shifted towards machines with card slots that are completely flush against the face of the ATM.
I have lived in the US for 5 years and now I live in Saudi Arabia, I can confidently say that Saudi banks are much secure than the US! 1- Every time you swipe your card in the POS device you will get an SMS notification about the transaction. 2- When shopping online you can't pay without doing the 2-step verification, an SMS message will be to your phone number and then you will have to put the verification code to proceed, which makes it hard for thieves to steal money. 3- Believe or not, %70 of the time when I do an online transaction someone from the Bank will call me personally and verify that I have done the transaction myself what a 5-star service right!
WOW!!!!!!! We need that type of security in the U.S. AND, it would be great if Saudi Arabia would inform Bank of America how to keep thieves from credit card theft!!!!!!!! It is rampant here in the U.S, and the banks and retailers will do all they can to force the customer to pay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how hard can it be? i'm from Finland and have used a chip cards since maybe 2003, we still have the magnet strips but you can't use them for anything, don't really need them anymore, but they still there for some reason
Yeah, Europe has been ahead of this for years. When I went there, I was very surprised that MANY of the machines there wouldn't even read the out of date card I had.
The reason is very simple. You might travel to a place in the world that still only uses the strips and then you'd call your bank complaining that you're starving to death while they could only tell you there's nothing they can do for you. :)
All debit and credit cards should require a fingerprint or iris scan for businesses and refuse transactions when being used at locations from telephones and computers that are not on the list for the user unless verified by answering some key questions properly. This is an easy thing to make work, but it could be initially expensive. Or, I could be very wrong with my idea about this all together.
I know right :D that's why Samsung was laughing at Apple when they released Apple pay "You do know most of America don't even have chip and pin yet let alone contactless" :D
Every bank can accept open two accounts ,one in put in $50 or $200 debit card and don't use outside credit card .other accounts no open credit card. Only use cash .
ah take all the cash actually stolen, then all the costs to pay fraud departments, legal fees, investigations, fraud checks etc and don't forget to itemize every last 1.00 staple and 5.00 paperclips for every instance of fraud...
US Debt is all numbers in a digital world that does not exist in current reality ... You are just told this to keep you in fear. Why do you think you still work and get paid ..?? Most $$ today is just a digital transfer of numbers ... Some people need to wake up and educate themselves
RFID Skimming is easier then magnetic skimming now, on top of being easier to skim RFID Chips, it can be done somewhat wirelessly, 2 feet away without a faraday cage around your card, and you could be a victim of card theft while walking in any store. but with magnetic strips, you had to physically use the card with a tempered card reader for them to be stolen. so the magnetic strips are slightly more secure then RFID Chips in the updated cards today.
If people are going to “extreme measures” or “extraordinary lengths” to steal credit cards, maybe it’s a sign everyone is underpaid and financially abused by people that would likely employ them. Most of the rich have more money then they would ever need. They could pass that business down thousands of times and take a major loss every year without going out of business. Billionaires. That’s the problem. Not credit card thief’s.
You know what encrypting is? The simple way of describing what it does is scrambling data by using algorithms, the data can't be recovered unless you have the right "password" (in this case I believe they would have to use a two step verification system). So it's similar to adding a password to a zip or rar file, you can apply this principle to the data in a credit card, instead of leaving the data as plain text they can ecrypt it so it can't be read as plain text. Will this protect against a copy I don't think so but at least all your information is not in plain text.
I will just use cash , I would rather use cash and loose the cash then have my whole life wiped out .Plus cash creates jobs for the people around me , cards just save big corps money by eliminating cash handling costs .
I worked for Verifact in Toronto, who makes swipe terminals, and the security software was 'borrowed' from the receptionists desk whilst they were waiting for the chip manufacturer rep to pick it up. So turn the swipe terminal and look for the word VERIFACT.
That isn't real. That isn't how that technology works. You can't just download an app and scan credit cards through wallets. SOME credit cards have a proximity feature which allows you to use them without swiping by placing the card near a reader. Those readers use RFID and phones do not have RFID readers built into them. So that part of the video was mainly to make people feel more vulnerable so they are more likely to take steps to protect themselves. However it is possible to do this with some custom hardware and software using a small device but not with a cell phone and an app.

why not use a system we have in India called One Time Password or OTP....India is a high risk country for theft but very lowest at credit card crime because of strong banking system....with indian credit cards you can only do a transaction with OTP that is sent to you thru mobile SMS service which is encrypted service and cannot be easily intercepted, to complete ur transaction....this is for online now but even at merchants place u can implement one time password to complete the transaction.
wow. . we def need that
Also in use in NZ
You can "redirect" SMS in a mobile network using "Signalling System 7" (SS7) hack. It is not simple attack but it can be done... An attacker can trick your operator to think your phone is in another country (roaming) and redirect all incoming calls and messages to his own fake operator to read them.
Fuck up your probably one of those tech support scammers.
Atre, Shailesh India is the best place to card lmao
No one is safe. My card has been compromised several times and the card companies aren't doing much to prevent it
Why don't you get the banking app (if your bank has one), and/or an online banking account. You can keep track of card transactions easily.
or even getting money from ATM over APP
the point is not to find out the took your money ... is how to prevent it in the first place! C'm !!!
this has never happened to me, some people are just dumb and buy wherever
i do take out cash from ATM over App on my phone, most secure way, get into the 21st century
And this is why I don’t have a credit card and I use cold, hard cash!
How do u get the cash ? go to a bank everytime ?
Fuad Kattan probably has a job that pays in cash only
I doubt that..
Same here. I roll my wads of hundreds and shove them up my ass
Frack i feel the same way
Frack then their is the physical things the wankers can do to things you own like keying vehicles with very little to no consequences I mean it just happened to me the other day 500 pound worth of damage and Police are useless
Move to Necker island then
Hugo Lizard
Was scam once from a gas station skimmer- glad was only $187
Here in the UK I have never seen someone use the magnetic strip on a bank card. Every business that takes card uses chip and pin. Its been like that for decades.
Yes. To sensible for the USA 🙄
Larger population...more businesses means harder to change
And giving your card to restaurant staff?! They're basically asking for it.
dont the credit dosent require a pin only if its debit frpm cheking you haveaaa choicepinn or no pin an atm needs apin or cash back on a purchase so credit on devit catd dosent need a pina transit machine asks your zip xode
They give you a grid card alongside your credit card for security but the major banks tend to not do that which is less secure.
seems they can stea; a chip card info and produce a non chip card
Call the card services ALWAYS. 😮
You can get your bank to turn off the "tap" feature on the chips. It's a good idea.
New to America, Old for Canada. we have had those chip cards for a LONG time
+Admin Jim **LMAO**
Have you seen the MEME for the "Canadian Mosh Pit"?? Search google images for it. It's funny.
Admin Jim Thought you'd like that after reading your comment about "...do yourself a favor and apologize." hahaha
quaker91 bitch, Canada is great, nearly no crime and police officers don't go around shooting poeple. There also has never been a school shooting in my province, ever.
Nobody cares about CANADA tho, they're like the guinea pig for new tech that America builds
It works well when you have 2 digits the same
so 84475 for example, since any mini spy cams won't think you have extra digits, since you're still pressing 4 buttons.
Every card I have ever had ONLY let you have a 4 digit pin#.... Never had an option to make a longer one...
@@rebeccahetrick6576 My old bank got bought out, so i had to switch banks. My new bank doesn't allow more than 4 digits.
But i would love to go back to having a longer pin.
Chips were added for the STORES SAFETY, NOT consumer's. On line, absolutely Zero protection added; Can't say anything about encryption.
It's funny because in Europe when you open an account they ask for a phone number to link to your account. When you pay online, after inserting the card details, the bank sends you a unique security key via SMS and to confirm the purchase you need to insert that code too, or else the transaction won't go through.
No one goes to jail, crime pays
What about the 3 digit code on the back of traditional cards? All the online sites are asking for that 3 digit code which isn't on the mag stripe.
+Raymond Euerle or use cash!
I find it funny how he says out into the wild aka public places
Read your comment just as he said it
Omg?? My credit card gold and platinum...I get attention.

I really can't believe the US doesn't use chip & pin...
we do
I just came back from the US, and they really don't.
@Thomas Williams They do have chips but they still have the mag stripe which is basically a sign that has all of your info on it.
He is right they are "Signature" not "Pin"
Hello World I do have a chip and a pin
Your loyalty and trustworthiness is one of a kind
Who u referring to?🤔
America is outdated eh. in Canada chip and pin have been used for years. same with tap
we have chip and pin its just that its expensive for companies to implement because most places have literally upgrade there register systems just to be able to use the chip and pin system and so its a very slow process and no the government is not giving companies money to switch to the new system because it would make the feds go broke.
Each store is different. eh
Heck, now most of the time I pay with my phone... Even in Canada I paid with my phone in few places.
youandiryan 😂😂 No boi. Canada is the outdated one. eh 😂 stupid canucks.
Possibly a power outage or network problem. Every store still has the old "Click Clack" machines as back up too.
youandiryan Same man, but we are a a young country.
The chip is only a deterrent, not a fail safe from would-be thieves. Knowing that makes all the difference.
D. M. Cook the chip. makes it easier to steal! they walk around with a scanner and get peoples info just sitting inside a store or around one
+Mike Henerson Not quite how it works.
7:28 Thank you for the false sense of security and subtle disclaimer.
Yeah someone skimmed my card at a gas station thank God my bank texted me I also carry my cards in a box now

wouldn't it be easier to just have a PIN number that is sent to your cell phone with each transaction over a set dollar amount? and it changes randomly with each use? That way you would need to steal the phone info as well as the card info.....a much harder feat to pull off.
Jethrobodine75 what you speak of is, is an Authenticator. in some respects yes that would help however. however hackers would just find a way to emulate your phone number and then emulate your Authenticator. in fact they probably would only need to emulate your phone number to emulate your Authenticator.
much more difficult yes but probably not completely impossible.
Ummm... I would prefer that my credit card works everywhere, not just places that I have cell phone service.
i use chime which dose a check f you log in and a text not a purchase online or store
“Reformed credit card thief” 💀💀
My mother was pulling money for the atm and I seen the video with the atm slimmer and I got scared and started looking around before she put her card in

Me too! Well, 15 months later 😁👍
Watching 3:32 makes me glad I always used cash at fast food restaurants
Me, too, and at a restaurant.
Hello everyone !!!!! Am really happy to recommend a great vendor like Samsonsmith7880 on telegram he has been like an Angel sent from above. Contact him for your high PayPal balance, bitcoin transfer, credit cards, cash app balance and phone. He good and offer great service
how hard can it be? i'm from Finland and have used a chip cards since maybe 2003, we still have the magnet strips but you can't use them for anything, don't really need them anymore, but they still there for some reason
Here in Aus we've had chip and pin for at least 10 years and have been able to 'tap n go' with our cards for the last 4.
You still have the strips on the back of your cards for Europeans to visit the US.
Not a good idea
Anybody else here because they just got hacked? Why is it always at Costco -_-? Is it the cashiers or the people standing in line? SMH
"reformed credit card their"
That haircut says otherwise lol
U think Comedy Man will ever notice the word I changed?
O America you're so out of date :(
Have they not had the chip on the credit card until now?
I may suck at grammar but at least my card detals are safe ;D
It is new to them more than 60% of America still use the swipe method
wow ive had it for ages
I know right :D that's why Samsung was laughing at Apple when they released Apple pay "You do know most of America don't even have chip and pin yet let alone contactless" :D
Every bank can accept open two accounts ,one in put in $50 or $200 debit card and don't use outside credit card .other accounts no open credit card. Only use cash .

16 billion, huh? I'd really like to know where their getting this information because that is an astronomical figure.
ah take all the cash actually stolen, then all the costs to pay fraud departments, legal fees, investigations, fraud checks etc and don't forget to itemize every last 1.00 staple and 5.00 paperclips for every instance of fraud...
16 Billion is not that much Money
Luke Weller:
$16 Billion is just a digital # in the banking system ...
You know the US National Debt is about 30-40 trillion, right? (dont remember for sure)

Yeah try and steal my debit card info if you do jokes on you there’s nothing to take 😂😂😂
Lol same
If people are going to “extreme measures” or “extraordinary lengths” to steal credit cards, maybe it’s a sign everyone is underpaid and financially abused by people that would likely employ them. Most of the rich have more money then they would ever need. They could pass that business down thousands of times and take a major loss every year without going out of business. Billionaires. That’s the problem. Not credit card thief’s.
I love how they make it seem like your loss even though the bank is losing and they want you to be scared
Why don't they encrypt the magnetic strip?
zerpBot is not chip lmao
They can even if it's not a chip...
zerpBot
show me the proof
You know what encrypting is? The simple way of describing what it does is scrambling data by using algorithms, the data can't be recovered unless you have the right "password" (in this case I believe they would have to use a two step verification system). So it's similar to adding a password to a zip or rar file, you can apply this principle to the data in a credit card, instead of leaving the data as plain text they can ecrypt it so it can't be read as plain text. Will this protect against a copy I don't think so but at least all your information is not in plain text.
The magnetic strip remains there for backward-compatibility with old equipment, thus no more improvements, sorry :)
"But it's so much safer than cash"
Dealing with *dumpslavvy* on telegram make me believe in darkweb, go trade with him I got my cc, cvv, PayPal and cash app transfer from him. 💯✅
Good thing I got Apple Card I’ll remember the next time to use that when I go to a McDonald’s
FlyingMitch haha
I will just use cash , I would rather use cash and loose the cash then have my whole life wiped out .Plus cash creates jobs for the people around me , cards just save big corps money by eliminating cash handling costs .
I worked for Verifact in Toronto, who makes swipe terminals, and the security software was 'borrowed' from the receptionists desk whilst they were waiting for the chip manufacturer rep to pick it up.
So turn the swipe terminal and look for the word VERIFACT.
Can we go back to swiping the cards. It’s much cooler to swipe a card than insert a card in a chip.
Canada has had tap cards and chip cards for years 😂😂😂
do you have to buy a special wallet too?
+Erika Johnson nope! We even have Apple Pay... It's all very safe!
no wonder my great-grandfather left Canada.... Nothing but sheep, and he was allergic to wool !
Still wouldn't live in Canada
Tap cards aren't safe, they transfer the account number via RFID in plain text.
I use cash every time. My debit card is used for important purchases through private companies.
I wonder what that app is called he used on his phone.
fantasy
That isn't real. That isn't how that technology works. You can't just download an app and scan credit cards through wallets. SOME credit cards have a proximity feature which allows you to use them without swiping by placing the card near a reader. Those readers use RFID and phones do not have RFID readers built into them. So that part of the video was mainly to make people feel more vulnerable so they are more likely to take steps to protect themselves. However it is possible to do this with some custom hardware and software using a small device but not with a cell phone and an app.
Got real card from @Darktrevor on telegram and he helped me load more on it , it still working no security issues so far......that guy is good for the card job
That why I use cash lmao
U must be very disorganized
Mr haun until someone robs you/ steal it😂😂
