This would have been the third performance of the Silent Drill that year. The first was at the home opener against Georgia Tech Sept 23 (with an early morning rehearsal performance on Old College Field for Band Day participants). The second was at a marching band festival somewhere in Flint on Sept 30, where it was unseasonably cold! In this performance, you can see the snow piled on the sideline in Spartan Stadium. It was Thanksgiving weekend 1972.

September 30 was at Flint's Northwestern High School. I was there. One of the absolute COOLEST moments in my life was watching this, then four years later being part of it. Especially at the end when "we" SPIN THE "S". Loved watching this black and white film clip, I can see my position waiting for me. GO GREEN!

So that's why there's no sound. All the valves must have been frozen up. Makes sense now.

The Kickstep was so much more impressive back in the day - it was as if the band just exploded out of the tunnel. Now, no so much.

Henry Baltimore and Robert James, according to archives. Henry was a really nice guy.
