Nice video mate. I chased it from Berwick to Traralgon in the morning. I even managed to grab a shot of the transfer on the Saturday arvo after I finished my shift at Puffing Billy.
Locomotives can't be turned until Traralgon, 1.5 hours away from Bairnsdale. Running a steam train tender first limits the speed, and would effectively turn that 1.5 hour journey into a 3 hour journey. There is also only one place, Sale, where trains can cross between Traralgon and Bairnsdale. I think for those two reasons, Steamrail have worked out it was easier to run two trains.
Nice video. I met this train in the morning at Sale station then I caught it on the way back through Stratford going over the Avon River.
Nice Dave!

Nice one mate! It was a popular trip, a lot of people made it up to Bairnsdale to see it.
Question, why 2 different trains with R761 going there over night and R711 up during the day, why didn't they just run a double header during the day?

Thanks for that, it makes sense to me now.
I wonder what happened to 1BCE which was also supposed to be on this train? 🤔
