Ultimate Spider-Man is a 2005 action-adventure video game based on the comic book of the same name by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley. The game was released on most sixth generation consoles, including Game Boy Advance, GameCube, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2, Xbox and Nintendo DS. n Ultimate Spider-Man, the player can experience a free-roaming city environment that covers Manhattan and Queens. The player starts in story-mode where the game automatically switches between Spider-Man and Venom. Spider-Man travels by web swinging, but the player must shoot the web at an actual building to swing, much like in the previous game, Spider-Man 2. Spider-Man uses acrobatic attacks. Venom travels by using his symbiote to pull himself and by performing massive jumps. Venom attacks using his claws and tendrils. Venom can also throw cars at targets and perform much more brutal attacks, including eating people in order to gain health.
As the game progresses, Spider-Man and Venom will have certain "City Goals" to accomplish in order to continue the storyline. There are additional activities throughout the game such as finding secret tokens, landmark tokens, comic book covers, and competing in races.
Spider-Man plays similarly to his Spider-Man 2 incarnation, using his trademark web shooters as his main method of transportation and combat, while Venom has to resort to jumping for long distances. Spider-Man's attacks are also generally weaker than Venom's. Venom can also leech life from enemies and civilians. The player has to do this constantly, as Venom's health is continuously depleting, even when he is not being attacked (the suit is feeding on Eddie, so he uses other people to feed it instead). Also, if Venom tries to eat a boss, then the boss would damage him from the inside. The Game Boy Advance version of Ultimate Spider-Man is a side-scroller, divided into seven "issues," each containing three chapters. The game allows players to control Spider-Man and Venom. This version features only three boss characters aside from the two leads: Shocker, Silver Sable, and Carnage.
Unlike the console, PC, or Nintendo DS games, this version features a limited supply of Spider-Man's web fluid, it can be refilled only by picking up special markers scattered throughout levels or dropped by enemies. Additionally, players may choose to collect hidden power-ups to gain more web fluid capacity or gain new moves and abilities for both Spider-Man and Venom. The Nintendo DS version of Ultimate Spider-Man is a side-scroller with a 3D environment. The game allows players to control Spider-Man and Venom. The gameplay differs greatly between both characters:
With Spider-Man levels, most of the game happens on the top screen and the touch screen is only used for selecting special attacks and operating certain objects (moving heavy objects, opening broken elevator doors, etc.).
With Venom levels, the game switches to the touch screen, enabling players to use Venom's tentacles to throw objects or enemies, and even attack by tapping the screen. Venom on the top screen can be changed in the Options menu.
The game features a slightly modified storyline. For example, players will face Shocker in a battle that is much more difficult than its console incarnation. The game also features a multi-player mode, where players can unlock different characters and arenas for a head-to-head fight.

best part of that is when you toss someone off a building it shows a little skull icon that it doesn't show when you knock them out, so they're canonically dead, unlike in games like arkham
This was one of my favorite games when I was younger. I can't remember why or when but I got two of them. One with Venom on the cover and I still have them to this day. Such a fun game.
Man I love this game. I remember when this game had its own commercial. I told my mom I wanted this game and this was the first game I played and my first time owning a PlayStation console (slim).

The most hardcore fucking part in this whole game in my opinion was that Peter became Carnage. He looked so goddamn lit. Only sad part was I wanted the chance to play as him.

But when i was little i used to play a lot of GTA VC, III, Spider-Man 2 (PC one), Ultimate Spider-Man, Bat-Man: Arkham City, Origins, Captain Claw and Minecraft. LOTS of Minecraft. Also my uncle would let me play Counter-Strike, Half-Life and Left 4 Dead on his computer :)

I didnt enjoy marvels spiderman as much as Ultimate spiderman. No offense but some of those other old school spiderman games had way better stories than spiderman ps4. Plus the combat was better in most of those other games.

The wolverine part and venom part is so amazing
one of the best intro missions to a game ever. Legitimately I think this game would be known as one of the best superhero games ever if it wasnt outshined by the toby movies and the games that came along with them.

The animations do hold up, the glitches you are getting and the T-posing characters on the sides are a result of playing the game in a 16:9 aspect ratio instead of the 4:3 it was designed for. That's also the reason why the panel images from the cutscenes get wider everytime they change from 3d to 2d.
It's a common problem with hd remaster ports of 6th gen games.

I don't have a problem with the purple colour on venom and Spider-Man
web of shadows had a purple “black suit” too and i thought they were both amazing

This was one of my favorite Spider-Main games I've played. I'm not that old, 17, but I've own and played many of the Spider-Man games and Ultimate Spider-Man on the Game Cube is definitely with in the top 5 of all the Spider-Man games I've played.

I hope eventually we get an USM game that tells the whole Peter Parker USM story from the beginning of his comic to his death. USM has always been my favorite SM comic book series and I’d love a bigger game of it

I was just a five-year-old kid when I bought this game at GameStop for under $10. The fact that the price has gone up is insane to me.

Why doesn’t anyone ever compliment Web of Shadows? That’s my favorite spider man game, I honestly believe that Spider-Man PS4s idea of changing New York as the story progresses was taken from Web of Shadows, and the wall and air combat is still unparalleled, PS4 was close with air combat but never gave enough chances for it, only two boss fights really utilized it.
You said why. It was a good game, but it's gimmick was never fully realized. The boss fights could be described as repetitive and invasion never lived up to the build up.

One of my all time favorite games. It blew me away back in the day, and as soon as I started playing as venom and immediately killed a kid before fighting wolverine, it transcended.

Spider-Man PS4 was my first game lol. I always hated superheroes, thought they were lame, I really didn’t like Spider-Man at the time either since the tasm films sucked. BUT after I saw Spider-Man homecoming on Netflix one year and later discovering the MCU films and maguire films I fell in love with these characters
And it was actually taken into the canon of the comic book.
Nope, it was for a time, but then the comic adapted the game's story and retcon everything.

The mission where you had to chase electro was a nightmare.
Fun fact: Spider-Man's suit was originally black and red. The blue was for lighting on the black. Over time the suit became red and blue.
Best part of my childhood on the PS2. I have also found out that this was referenced and used in the recent major sequence of events for Venom by the Ultimate Reed Richards. Its amazing

I've only seen Venom or Spider-Man t pose rarely but that was only when switching characters or switching characters via changing costumes and if I was already in the air. Even then it's happened less than 10 times the 10+ years I've had the game this was on GameCube so it's likely the most stable version but still.
This was my favourite spiderman game. The swing was awesome because being able to climb your webs while swing made some great swinging moments.
I love the cell-shading from early 2000's, probably the reason why i didn't forget about this game, and also the comic book style (obviously) like you said

I played this one on the GameCube back in the day. An absolutely amazing Spider-Man game. Perfectly captured the feel of the comics. Used to web zip towards the Statue of Liberty to go under the map.
This game was so awesome!! However when you failed a mission I hate how they showed everyone that you let down, it made me so mad lol, but it also made it more enjoyable when you finally won

I remember playing this game on my brothers GameCube back then. It would be great if they remastered the game and put more missions and made more playable characters such as the boss battle characters.

The reason for the T-posing venom and some other situations like that is because the game was made for a time when televisions had a square aspect ratio and updated versions of the game that allow for widescreen tend to reveal stuff that would have otherwise been offscreen
I fucking love this game, it was what sparked my love for the character, I still remember playing it in my sisters high school boy friend’s couch, while she was supposed to be baby sitting me, like 3 months after it came out, and I legitimately went home and begged my dad to let me do chores so I could get it, then waking up early every Saturday morning to play this for a hour or so before my dad kicked me off to go play outside or something lol.
I even have extremely vivid memories of playing this in the summer, while my other sister sat on face book all day in the next room blasting the beetles “I am the walrus” and just swinging around.
Could never beat it but I loved it! 10/10
Possibly the best Spider-Man game, I've played through it at least once per year since release, sometimes twice. At one point it was basically the only thing I played for months.

This was an insane game, one of the best Spidey games by a mile. I remember being in line at Game with the game in hand, some woman approached me and dad and asked us to buy there sons copy for £10 instead of spending £20 in store, what a lovely lady she saved me money and I’ll never forget it. Bruh purple has such a better feeling to it than the blue. It seems thematically appropriate, because purple is a color that is rare in nature, and an alien creature from another world looking like a glossy, tar-like, purple ooze makes sense to me.

This is one of those games that was so far in the back of my head I mightve thought it wasn't actually a real game just some fever dream but its good to see someone cover this brought back alot of good memories thanks man
In defense of peter sounding the way he does, this version of Peter was actually only Spider-Man for I think a year, from 15 years of age to 16. "Died" at 16. I actually like it alot because as teenagers and even adults, we think of things to say which sound WAY better in our heads and come out cringy as sin. "Don't make me hurt you Eddie, I'm totally serious!" probably sounded ALOT more menacing in his head but this is the same Peter who sat on a wall demanding a hundred bucks from Black Widow while her and Wolverine were having relationship drama for stealing his web shooters. He sounds far better when he's in his actual zone, quipping and making jokes, but when he is in genuine danger like when fighting Venom and his own Spider Sense has been turned on him the snarky façade drops.

Played this game as a kid and anytime I brought it up to friends no one knows about this game. I played it when My family was moving into a new house so the nostalgia is real.
This, The Wind Waker and Spider-Man 2 were the first games I owned on my GameCube in 2005. For as timeless as Spider-Man 2 is, I played this game so much more. The art style, comic book feel and ability to play as venom kept my attention for a lot longer as a young kid

I played this game SOOOO much as a kid. Surprisingly, more than spider man 2. This is definitely the most unique Spiderman and also my second favourite.
Never managed to play through this whole game. But it was a pretty big part of my childhood, I used to love racing the human torch through the city, and seeing wolverine in the bar as venom. I also love the comic book style with the panels and all that. Really cool game.
This game used to piss me off heavy. I remember constantly quitting for longer and longer periods of time because of a fight with venom. Thankfully sonic riders was a great pick me up
THIS IS SUCH AN AMAZING GAME!! IT LITERALLY IS BEAUTIFUL AND I played this for months before Spider-Man PS4 was out. Idk it was a blast and so fun and it definitely deserves a remaster but Idk if it'll ever come.. just crazy that I bought this when I was like 6 for 9.95 and now I could probably sell it for hundreds haha. Never will tho. My favorite Spider-Man game :))

I would like to say that I totally appreciate the detail you went into making this video. As I watched this video I started to feel like I was in high school again(saying as I played this game as a freshman). Another one that I loved was Spider-Man 64, with the suit variations... there weren't a lot of games on 64 that had voice over and narration. When I first got this game I didn't really care for it because of the art style, but it didn't take long for me to warm up to this look. An excellent display cartoony Graphics that worked well.
