Great video as usual Wes! I build face frame cabinets since that's the market niche I've found in my area. I was taught the use of stretchers behind drawers in the 2 year cabinetmaking coarse that I started when I was a senior in high school, over 25 years ago, but I never really adapted to it. I know shops around me to do and don't. What's your thoughts on using stretchers behind the face frame? If it wasn't for soft close drawer slides, I might have eventually used stretchers to take the impact of the slamming drawer front, but considering everything I do is soft close I felt that I didn't really need to add stretchers behind the frame. What are your thoughts? Take care! Scott
Hi Scott...I use the stretchers mostly for drawer guide support and alignment on a face frame cabinet. I found that has worked good for me. Thanks for the compliment and I really appreciate your positive feedback.

Another great video! Question: how do you spray the cabinet with a face frame and melamine carcass? Do you mask the carcass entirely? Or is there a trick I’m missing?

The table saw blade I use is 80 tooth carbide especially made for melamine. Hope this helps. Wes

Hey Wes, love your videos. You have given me confidence to tackle some cabinet projects around the house. I love the staple method but wondered how you fasten your cabinet carcass when the end will be exposed in the final installation. Do you still use the staples and cover them with some kind of trim piece? Keep up the great work!
Hi Phillip...in my cabinet installation, all ends are provided with a finished end panel to match the door style. This covers all the nails and staples used during assembly. Hope this helps, thanks Wes

Hey Wes, Is there any other options for a stapler other than the 18 gage? I have a set of cabinets I am wanting to build and really like your simple method of stapling instead of screws. I would like to get a stapler ordered and give this method a try. I jut cant find a 18 gage nailer that shoots wide crown staples 1-3/4 long. "You remind me of my school shop teacher that taught me in High School many years ago. You really are a good teacher and do such a good job on your RUclips Channel. "

@@jeffarmstrong1655 Thanks for the reply. Wes said he uses a 18 gauge wide 1-3/4 long staple. This one is 16 gauge 1-1/2.

great video wes .i would like to know how you decide what size you cut your rails and stiles widths for your face frame and how much overhang you leave
Hi Jeff...the hinges that I use have a 5/8 overlay and so do my drawer faces (top, bottom & sides). The width of the rails is determined by how much space I want between drawer faces. On the sample I made, they were 1 1/2 " rails between drawers, which gave me 1/4" between drawer faces. The stiles were a little wider to create a larger space between cabinets. You can adjust the size of your stile and rails to create whatever spacing gives you the finish look you are after. I hope this helps....thank you. Wes

Hi Michael...I don't charge for consultation and design. Although I don't do very much design work before closing the sale. I give them a running foot price and that gets the ball rolling. Good luck...you will do great !! Thanks. Wes

what brand and width staple is your gun that you fasten cabinets together with? thanks, great videos!
Brian...my staple gun shoots a wide crown 1 3/4" long staple. The gun itself is an old one that is no longer made but newer versions are available from mfrs. like Senco and Duo Fast. Hope his helps. Thanks for watching. Wes

awww you used the harbor freight clamp i would figure you would have a clamping machine !! for a production shop i cant believe u use a kreg hand drill !! i use a kreg pneumatic works fast with foot pedal

I have a hard time with you relying solely on nails and staples to hold your cabinets together...The standard around my area here in Canada is 16 Guage nails and conformat screws..

I have found lots of 16 gage staplers and some 18 gage Medium crown. This 18 gage wide crown stapler seems very hard to find. Any suggestions?
