  • So THANKS EVERYBODY for your support on my channel! I have reached the amazing 7000 sub mark! Thanks again! So because I have been having issues with my laptop I though I would share my experience of cleaning it and because I could find no examples online (other than dismantle vids) I thought it might be helpful?
    I must also apologize for my sickness in this video but it's hanging around so I thought I would go for it anyways. Cleaning a laptop fan while ill is probably not a wise thing but what the hell!

    Mate just one thing you should never spin those fans with the compressed air because it can spin them at a far too high a speed for what they were designed to operate at you are in danger of wrecking the bearings. The best way to over come that is to insert say a cable tie to stop the fan from spinning at all and one more thing the air can should be held up in the upright position it is not good for the liquid air inside to get onto or into the machine and you could even give yourself a bit of a freezer burn getting on yourself.

      Better than that, don't keep your laptop in the same path as you dryer vent. I've had the exact same laptop for 6 years and it's never gathered that much lint. Also, vacuum the vents and keyboard periodically with a vacuum brush and you'd be better off.

  • @tonyeah
    @tonyeah 8 лет назад +43

    you make it look so easy but I'm shitting myself at the thought of having to do this. I'm pretty sure my fans are drowning in dust because the GPU fan sounds like a vacuum cleaner when it gets hot and the CPU fan sounds like a lawnmower at times, but I'm too scared to ruin the whole thing when I open it, and I mean, this was not a cheap computer haha!

    • @PitstopHead
      @PitstopHead  8 лет назад

      True. You can blast the fans from behind with air when it's off and not plugged in. But it is hard to open! GL

      In the same spot.
      I'm afraid of fucking something up if I attempt to tear it open, or losing a few screws, or etc.
      Gonna try blowing the dust out via the vents in the back, and see how that goes before I do anything else.

      same ;_; but i just backed everything up and I'm going to reset it to factory settings anyway so I figure I better do it now than later. I think if I go completely OCD on it and put all the screws in like little bowls with 'frame' on it etc. I can pull this off :')

      @priv1leged 6 лет назад

      if your fans sound like that you should unscrew and remove everything. lastely you have to disassamble the fan itself, which is the most important part. i can tell you that this process has to be repeated every 6 months or so.... but im sure you already figured it out by now.

  • @9856CB
    @9856CB 2 года назад +1

    I would have gently vacuumed the dust before spraying the air. The compressed air has moisture and when you spray you may be driving the dust deeper into places you don't want to. Great video.....thanks

  • @andylovejoy4121
    @andylovejoy4121 8 лет назад +2

    a good tip is keep the screws safe with a magnet so that you don't blow them a way with the compressed air

    Always secure fans from spinning when applying air to avoid overspeed rpm resulting in ruined bearings.

    Thanks to this video I finally had the courage to take mine apart, because it was running really loud and hot.
    Turns out it isn't too dusty inside, and when gently blown on, both fans turn nicely.
    However, I was crazy enough to turn it on without reassembly, and I saw that one of the fans never started turning at all, and the other one took more than a minute to start, before the OS turned on both were off.
    Maybe that's it...
    Thanks for the guide!
    (DVD removal skipped my attention because I saw not the reason, so got stuck there)

    I remember taking out the fan to clean it and when putting it back there were several screws that didn't have to come off. I did it mostly like this, but I don't remember which screws didn't need to unscrew to lift that key board

    I've had the same model of laptop for three years now, almost to the day. It started rattling just today. I have to say, even the prospect of just aiming a can of compressed air at it fills me with fear. This thing's the most expensive thing I own, even with the notion of back-ups it's... well, scary to think I'd lose it.
    Moral of the story: never buying a gaming laptop ever again. A desktop that can be opened and checked easily for Blender and such, and relegate the laptops to being Linux render farms ^^

    Just one thing mate one should never and I mean never air blast the fans like that you are in danger of spinning them over design limits and wreck the bearings one last thing the air I noticed blasted while holding the can down not a good idea allowing the liquefied gas into the machine but otherwise thanks for the vid mate nice and simple and not too long and drawn out.

    I have this same laptop and it's been 5 years since I got it. It is definitely showing signs of slowing down. My question is, did you find that doing this helped? If so, was it a massive difference? Thanks for posting that and hope you feel better!

    • @bass4usall
      @bass4usall 4 года назад

      Just wanted to report that I successfully opened up and douched out my laptop. When I finally got to the fans, they were so caked full of dust that I could not see through the fins of the heat sinks! It was truly amazing how much crap got stuffed in there over a short 5 years. This is where I decided to stop however, as I didn't want to dig any deeper to apply paste out of fear. I will tell you that cleaning the heat sinks and fans made a MASSIVE difference when I put it all back together and booted her up. My laptop runs software it choked on before I cleaned it and it runs about 40-50 degrees cooler! I highly recommend doing this. Take your time. It WILL do wonders.

      @Wes Takahashi I used a compartmentalized bin and saved my screws "chronology" in the order I removed them, and had no spare parts left over when I was done! Which, for me, is a good sign. Thanks for your help!

      btw g752 does have an anti-dust system which blows all the dust out (Really it works)

    I know you said your laptop was shutting itself down when you chose to do this, but I'm hoping this cleaning can help me as well? I just wanted to ask if your left fan happened to make any kind of whirring, rattling noises? Mine's doing this and I'm hoping a good cleaning can solve it, but I'm fearing mine is more about the bearings. But since you went through the process, I thought to check if maybe rattling fans could have been a problem of yours, too.

  • @chellsee4167
    @chellsee4167 6 лет назад +2

    Laptop abuse!
    You are making me cringe with that compressed air ( o_0)
    You're basically using the liquid form and not the actual "air"
    Blowing into the vents is no beuno, you're just pushing dust further into the laptop.
    You went full blast on the cpu fans. For anyone watching this, DO NOT do what he's doing, you'll wreck your fans. Doing so makes the fans spin faster than what they're intended for. If you want to blow the dust out of your fans, hold the fan blades down (gently) with your finger, then use the compressed air.
    It appears you didn't remove the hard-drives? No beuno. Do you want to risk losing all your data?
    This is an expensive laptop. You crazy, son!

Can anyone tell me which screws go where if they have the same laptop. they seems to be a lot of small screws and alot of small but slightly wider screws,. the 2 medium height screws. and one really ling screw that's thin. on the back panel I see letters A B and C near some holes. and also three descriptions; M2X12 , M2X8 and M2.5X4 I'm not sure what all these mean.
