Emozioni indescrivibili e ancora vive. Dopo la seconda frattura, giocò un paio d'anni da campione ma non più da fuoriclasse, con una gamba più corta dell'altra. Andò ai mondiali in Germania non ben guarito da uno strappo ad una coscia e praticamente li finì la sua carriera, a 29 anni: poi giocò pochissime partite. Baggio tecnicamente e come fantasia, secondo me, era inferiore solo a Maradona, e pari a Pelè (che però era ben superiore atleticamente) ma era troppo "buono" di carattere, gli mancava la "prepotenza" di Platini o di Crujff o di Messi, altrimenti non ci sarebbero stati dubbi che era come minimo al loro livello. Riva va considerato con gli attaccanti puri, come Gerd Muller e Van Basten.

Plus, few people remember or even know, the WC ball was a brand new model, much lighter and players never had the opportunity to get familiar with it before the tournament (usa94 was awfully organised!). Sum up all this and you may get why he missed the pk (after 120mins game under a baking sun that roasted the brains of all, including supporters). Note2: no-one EVER saw the 100% Baggio, 'cause at 18yo he suffered a massive injury that left him crippled at 1leg (it became shorter than the other and constantly painstaking as a result). So the best Baggio we ever seaw was 80\85%. Imagine hadn't he had that fatal injury...as someone once said: he did what Maradona did with 1&1/2 leg. Ah, and regarding that pk: many brazilians still say it was Ayrton Senna that took it high 🌤️🙂😔

He makes to look easy everything because he has a superb technique. In my opinion the best ever italian player. He has been also just incredibly unlucky with injuries and very often having a bad team manager that preferred to play very defensive. It is sad he didn't win as much he deserved, especially with national team where he had great performance. Baggio tecnicamente e come fantasia, secondo me, era inferiore solo a Maradona, e pari a Pelè (che però era ben superiore atleticamente) ma era troppo "buono" di carattere, gli mancava la "prepotenza" di Platini o di Crujff o di Messi, altrimenti non ci sarebbero stati dubbi che era come minimo al loro livello.
Riva va considerato con gli attaccanti puri, come Gerd Muller e Van Basten.

Note: in WC final94 he was injured, after a stressing tournament, played at harsh sunny weather from 12 to 14 with 90%humidity and 30°C average, all players (especially italians) were cooked (have u seen the opportunity Romario missed that day?!? Alone at 1mt from goal without the keeper..and he missed the goal...). Plus, few people remember or even know, the WC ball was a brand new model, much lighter and players never had the opportunity to get familiar with it before the tournament (usa94 was awfully organised!). Sum up all this and you may get why he missed the pk (after 120mins game under a baking sun that roasted the brains of all, including supporters).
Note2: no-one EVER saw the 100% Baggio, 'cause at 18yo he suffered a massive injury that left him crippled at 1leg (it became shorter than the other and constantly painstaking as a result). So the best Baggio we ever seaw was 80\85%. Imagine hadn't he had that fatal injury...as someone once said: he did what Maradona did with 1&1/2 leg. Ah, and regarding that pk: many brazilians still say it was Ayrton Senna that took it high 🌤️🙂😔
I too remember the complaints about the USA 94 ball, a lot of players were apparently finding their shots going higher than usual.

He makes to look easy everything because he has a superb technique. In my opinion the best ever italian player. He has been also just incredibly unlucky with injuries and very often having a bad team manager that preferred to play very defensive. It is sad he didn't win as much he deserved, especially with national team where he had great performance. Totti and especially del Piero have shown only partially their talent with the Italian national team
