In this particular matter, the father's really failed. Hata kama they had not initially approved the program, when the kid goes missing, the father had to step in and secure/protect his family. Another man cannot be walking free while detaining my kid - police or no police - I would have to be in a coma,dead or already in prison for murder/attempted murder of the pastor.
