I remember Phil Read and Giafranco Bonera racing the MV Augusta 500/4 in Race of the year in the early 70’s atMallory Park and the noise of them coming in the hairpin there.
I seen Agostini race it at Mallory in 76 and I must have stood where you did the noise was unbelievable. Imagine anyone using one on normal roads. It sounded like an explosion getting louder and louder as the bike drew near. Scary actually.
Was seid denn Ihr für Motorradfans?? Lärm?, das sind KLÄNGE in den höchsten Tönen und kein Lärm!! Symphonie der Motoren!! Geht zum Radrennen, da ist es leiser!! 🙋
@laziosociaria, from minute 2.22, there are four MVs; from left to right; the experimental 350cc six cylinder (1972?); 500cc four cylinder (1974); another 500cc four cylinder (1975) and on the right it might well be a 500cc three cylinder in 1973 configuration (front disc brake and wire wheel -likely Read's bike or a reserve. Agostini's bike was equipped with a magnesium front wheel in '73.
Absolutely a superb noise them MV`s made, never remember this version with small wings on front of fairing and a extended seat unit. Does anyone know if it was ever raced with the extra streamlining or only used unsuccessfully in practise ?
A bit of an optical trick here. I always thought the aero-foiled MV was a later four, but if you look closely at around 40s, the fourth carb can't be seen, then at 1.44, there appears to be only three megas, but at 2.16 it all reveals itself, so apologies for being a smart arse... doh! Wrong again.
Those 500cc fours are engrained in my memory since I saw them first in the 1974 Assen paddock. But why the barbaric treatment here? I remember that the MV mechanics had the engine spinning with one short push.
What a delicious sound. I have never seen that bike before with it's bizarre body work.
What a beast of a machine...lovely...music to my ears.
Thanks for posting!

The bike is a prototype tested at Assen in 1972 and the novelties were more then skin deep as the engine ran backwards.

The 2nd bike from the right ( the one they started) is a 3 cylinder! Thats why it has 3 exhaust pipes!
@@jarnosaarinen4583 Hmm, have another good look, Jarno - 4 pipes.
Such a deep note for a four-cylinder. Very nice.
The 2 stroke starter motor was cracking!

Wings in the fairing like the 2016 Moto GP bikes, AWESOME!!!!!
McNally Prendergast wankers.
Ride it as it was built.
Again, thanks for all your comments. Who are the famous older gentlemen in racing gear?
wings on the fairing like a 2016 motogp robot, sacrilegious!

Yes, this extra streamlining was used on fast tracks like Spa, for example in 1974
Hockenheim Motodrom, 100.000 out of their seats..........40 years later, still getting goose bumps.
What a PITA to start.
Fantastic!
