- British motorcycle legend Phil Read MBE, sadly passed away, (Gen 1st 1936 - Oct 6th 2022) at the age of 83. The "Prince of Speed" was without a doubt one of the all time greats in the world of motorcycle sport and between 1964 and 1974 he won seven FIM Bike GP world championships, becoming the first rider ever to win the title in all three classes (125cc, 250cc, 500cc).
In total Read won 52 Grand Prix races, and 8 Isle of Man TT races and he got 121 podiums, 5 pole position and 1 fast lap. He was also inducted into the MotoGP "Hall of Fame" in 2002.
La leggenda britannica del motociclismo Phil Read MBE, è purtroppo scomparso (1° gennaio 1936 - 6 ottobre 2022) all'età di 83 anni. Il "Principe della velocità" è stato senza dubbio uno dei più grandi di tutti i tempi nel mondo dello sport motociclistico e tra il 1964 e il 1974 ha vinto sette campionati mondiali FIM di motociclismo, diventando il primo pilota in assoluto a vincere il titolo in tutte e tre le classi (125cc, 250cc, 500cc).
In totale Read ha vinto 52 Gran Premi e 8 gare TT all'Isola di Man e ha ottenuto 121 podi, 5 pole position e 1 giro veloce. Nel 2002 è stato anche inserito nella "Hall of Fame" della MotoGP.

Lo incontrai nel 2014 a Varano . Aveva un tavolino dove vendeva il suo libro. Era protagonista perché si festeggiava il 50 esimo anniversario del primo mondiale Yamaha e lo aveva vinto lui . Gli diedi un libro che sfogliò interessato per alcuni minuti e c’erano molte sue foto. Me lo ridiede gentilmente con 2 autografi. Non dimenticherò mai quel giorno. Grazie per il ricordo alla prossima

Intanto mi scuso non ho visto gli ultimi video ma sono un po’ indaffarato. Ho appreso per caso su RUclips della morte di Read. Pilota d’altri tempi. 7 mondiali in 3 classi. 52 vittorie in 4 categorie. Ha corso dalla 125 alle 1.000 . Ha guidato alcune delle moto più famose della storia : le Yamaha 125/250 V4 MV 3/4 cilindri Gilera quattro Benelli 250 Ducati 500 Suzuki RG Yamaha TZ 750 e le Honda RCB . Quanti possono vantarlo ? Ha lottato con Redman Ivy Hailwood Agostini Sheene su piste impossibili sarà dura pensare che non è più tra noi . Scusa se mi sono prolungato ma è un grosso colpo

Quell’anno all’Asi c’era anche Fabrizio Pirovano . Anche lui ci ha lasciati già da qualche anno. Lo incontravo spesso perché siamo delle stesse parti sempre gentile e disponibile a parlare con tutti. Ci manca tanto. Grande pilota poteva vincere di più ma è stato un mito per noi brianzoli
Grande personaggio anche il "Piro"....e gran manico, imbattibile nella "sua" Monza
Le ho viste di persona quelle gare del 1990/92 a Monza. Le prime volte della SBK. A ottobre freddo e pioggia. Eravamo un piccolo gruppo di appassionati, poi arrivo’ il grande pubblico. Comunque Pirovano poteva girare bendato a Monza vinceva lo stesso
