I get an error message that "The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140.dll was not found. Reinstalling may fix the problem." What can I do? I am unable to get past through this step. :(
Moodle normally recommend xamp most other experts also use wamp , please why do you opt for apache over xamp and wamp and in technical terms if you want to use wamp or xamp what are the key configs you have to make before you get your moodle up and running. Again is there a need for setting up environmental virables
Answers to your queries:a. Xamp and others - main advantage is the ease-of-use - so it is good for novicesb. "why do you opt for apache over xamp and wamp" - firstly, both run over exactly same tech - i.e. Apache, MySQL and PHP. The difference is - what I have shown is a clean install. XAMP will install extra tools and will build extra folder structures etc - so transparency is reduced. Somebody who learns from a clean install will have minimal difficulty going to a Linux based production server. Another great advantage with a clean install - is that you can use the exact same setup to install other projects such as Wordpress, Joomla or Drupal - and many others. c. "if you want to use wamp or xamp what are the key configs you have to make before you get your moodle up and running" - There is a Moodle + Xamp installation, search for it if you want to go that route. It will install Moodle also, and there is nothing extra you need to do.
Is there any other way to install Moodle without going thro' the command prompt stuff and all that. In Moodle tutorial, from WAMP we can install APACHE and PHP we can install, it says. which is reliable? Please help.
Yes, there are several WAMP based complete installers available. See: docs.moodle.org/32/en/Complete_install_packages_for_Windows. Advantage: easy and complete package. Disadvantage: additional baggage, not a close match to the production server. Not easy to extend.
