I really loved the setting. Essentialy a bunch of actors stuck in one place for the whole movie. This is how good writing and acting come into play.

It's amazing how Tarantino can make a movie that's basically 88 of its 90 minutes of guys talking to eachother and he has your complete attention the entire time. what a marvel.
i really hope he doesn't stop making movies. he's a cinematic treasure.

Viki I think you missed the deeper meaning in "Reservoir Dogs". You took it as just dialogue being rattled off by each of the characters but there is a deeper psychological dynamic going on in the movie, which is what takes it to another level. Because Harvey Keitel (Mr.White) feels responsible for getting Tim Roth (Mr Orange) shot. HE stops thinking like a criminal and starts taking on a father figure role, soothing Tim Roth (Mr. Orange) as he bleeds out. He knows ROth's going to die, he feels responsible for it and it won't let him entertain the fact that Tim Roth is a cop. Tarantino's subtext is always next level and gives the meaning of events in the movie so much more psychological impact than would be in a normal shoot-em-up heist flick.

Orange revealing he's a cop isn't even the big reveal in that scene - the big reveal is the uniform cop knew who he was the entire time - and didn't say a fucking word. what a legend

This is my favorite movie of All-time. Quentin very first movie he directed. All for a budget of about 1 Million dollars. If you get a chance, watch the movie True Romance. Tarantino wrote the movie but sold it. This allowed him to direct Reservoir Dogs. True Romance is an amazing film. Tarantino did not direct it but you can tell it has his dialog and vibe.

Lawrence Tierney, the actor who played big boss Joe Cabot, starred in several classic film noirs back in the fifties and sixties, starting with his portrayal of infamous bank robber John Dillinger in the 1945 film "Dillinger" and notably playing the heavy in the 1947 film "Born to Kill" directed by Robert Wise. "Born to Kill" holds up well. Check it out when you can.

there's a whole genre of films largely set in one room/location, if you're into that kind of thing. It often brings the best out of the actors because they usually have to be a lot more convincing/persuasive to pull it off. I love it.

I've tried to pick my favourite Tarantino film several times, but it's so difficult. The ones I like least are probably Jackie Brown, and Death Proof. I watched a feature on the making of Reservoir Dogs, and it was so good. How on the shelves there were jars with Orange, White, and Pink things in them as reference to Mr. Pink, Mr. White, and Mr. Orange. Also, I watched a YT clip about where it was filmed, they went to the diner where the Like A Virgin conversation was had, and the laundry where it was shot (which is no longer standing), that was interesting too. I like all behind-the-scenes stuff. I really like Michael Madsen's acting in this movie, I'm surprised he's not been more successful than he has been. Check him out in Above the Law where he plays the leader of a biker gang. Also, Michael Madsen is Virginia Madsen's brother. Virginia Madsen was in the original CANDYMAN.

Viki is right, this is a movie with great performances, with very difficult dialogues and situations (the story of the policemen and the dog in the bathroom has gone down in history as one of the most incredible scenes in Tarantino's filmography) . But it is also a film with one of the best montages ever made (excuse me, I'm Spanish, do you say "montage" in English?). There are very few directors as adept at it as Tarantino (Scorsese, Spielberg, and few others). Scenes like the one of Mr Blonde's torture of the policeman, with static shots interspersed with a camera in hand that makes a tracking shot following the torturer to his car and back to the garage, or again the scene of the bathroom anecdote, in which the bathroom scene itself, narrated by Mr Orange as if he were not there, is in turn inserted into the scene in which he is telling the rest of the band in the bar, this scene in turn is inserted into the scene in which the cop rehearses it in front of his partner with all those graffiti behind, and finally this scene is inside the rooftop scene in which his partner explains to him what a "commode story" is . In short, this film (let's not forget, it is the first film directed by Tarantino) is a technical and artistic prodigy. Without a doubt, one of my favorite films, a masterpiece.

Since you have already done Tarantino's 2nd film, "Pulp Fiction", you should continue with the rest of his work. In order:
    - An acting role in Robert Rodriguez's "Desperado" (w/ Antonio Banderas, Selma Hayek, Danny Trejo, and Cheech Marin)
    - "Four Rooms" in collaboration with Robert Rodriguez. It is an anthology of 4 short stories with Tim Roth, Antonio Banderas, Selma Hayek, Bruce Willis, Paul Calderon, and Tamlyn Tomita
    - "Jackie Brown", Tarantino's 3rd solo film, from a book by Elmore Leonard. Lots of well known actors in this one.
    - A main acting role in Robert Rodriguez's film "From Dusk 'Til Dawn" (not the Netflix series of the same name), with many of Tarantino's and Rodriguez's standard actors. The film takes a surprise turn, so do not look at anything about it, even the thumbnails or poster/cover art gives it away.
    - "Grindhouse: Death Proof"
    - "Grindhouse: Planet Terror"a double-feature, Tarantino did "Deathproof" and Robert Rodriguez did "Planet Terror". Tarantino acted in "Planet Terror".

He did a few other films he helped write or were a bit involved in...true romance, from dusk til Dawn, a couple others. But this was his first complete writing and directed film, and still my favorite! He totally breaks character as Mr Brown, at the breakfast scene, when he laughs, after what the Boss says. Pro tips, James Woods was up for Mr White, but his manager didn't give him the script... James fired him! The movie wouldn't have been made unless Harvey Keitel put up 5 million and insisted on being Mr White! Vic Vega is Vince Vega's brother, from Pulp Fiction!😮😮😮 He wanted to do a prequel with the brothers, but never got around to it. Mr Blue was a real life Bank robber and criminal, and started writing in prison. He started getting interest in his stories, so when he got out, he started writing and acting! No one liked the boss, he was a more stuck up Old school Hollywood royalty actor, and a bit insane. The other actors several times almost came to hands with him!!
