This is Roland MC-808 sampling groovebox with 8 touch sensitive motorized faders (60 mm), 128 note polyphony and 128 MB sampling RAM.
In the last 25 years I already owned Roland's groovebox units: the MC-303 and MC-505. I like both of them so much. I love the 303 because of its simplicity and fast TR sequencer programming but the 505 got me with its powerful JV-1080 synth engine (with special ROM samples), pattern MIX option and D-Beam control. I also had an opportunity to try a friend's MC-909, the first one MC groovebox with sampling option, with large LCD (and unit at all), turntable speed/tempo control etc.
So, what MC-808 can do more then previous MC groovebox units? With 128 poly, 128 mb RAM sampling, 16 synth parts + 16 RPS, lots of multi and master FXs, compression (parts on/off), separate audio outs, 8 touch sensitive motorized faders, 4x8 matrix onboard editor.... you can do many good things.
All sequences in this demo are factory patterns recorded directly to Tascam DR-05x recorder (24bit, 48 khz) without any audio processing.

Some years ago I wanted to do some hip-hop and bought this mc. It was way too complicated for me unfortunately. Two weeks ago, I am again on “I wanna make hip hop” mode, this time using a Sp 404 mk2. It’s great BUT I miss the 808 because it sounds HUGE right out of the base sounds. The sampling part is a pain in the *** in 2023 but the sequencer, the synth and the mastering effects are gold.
