I saw an interview where Messiah was talking about that he never drinks while on tour because he wants to keep his voice well for shows. That is true dedication.
Some of the best lyrics ever to appear in a black metal song 'Castles walls are closing, in she's crippled now with age Welcomes death with open arms, the reaper turns the page' Amazing
@bl4ckmuso I think the same , Bathory and Hellhamer. Venom "invented " Black metal name , style and maybe some lyrics stuff. But they were kinda thrash with black metal stuff.

Hi, Whist I entirely respect your argument and metered response to my somewhat inflamatory O.P , I sadly still disagree. The song was written in a style that, IMO, is entirely illsuited to his voice. It is such a dark song on such an evil matter, that i felt it stood out as opposed to complimenting it. I will take the time later on to look up the other music they have done and perhaps will report back with my thoughts on that too.
remember though candlemass is doom not thrash or heavy so its basicly taking the song and crossing it over into a different subgenre kinda like vader's future of the past or 1349's cover of buried by time and dust by mayhem
Venom dont hve much in common with the sound of Norwegian Black Metal but just because that became the dominant sound you cant discount Venom as the origionators of Black Metal.....its no coincidence that every band from the inner circle of Norwegian BM has payed tribute to venom one way or another....
i am not surprized leif is a great nwobhm collector so he loves venom staff.I thing that they transform it into power metal, destroyins somewhat the demonic mood cronos created.
@sinbysin666 because when those my dying bride and such bands appeared in the mid 90s everyone called that doom metal and naturally connected that, for me not, doom metal with it... doom metal is candlemass, solitude aeturnus and such not my dying bride and anathema...
check out "Most Evil Men & Women In History" book on the chapter of Elizabeth Bathory, she pretty much wrote the book on how to be a woman serial killer, with hundreds of young virgin girls blood on her hands
Ok, who ever thought it was a good idea to cover this song in a less "don't give a fuck"-version than the original: bad idea! Where did all the brutality go??? I AM NOT AMUSED!
That honour belongs only for Venom, because they were the first band to call themselves as a Black Metal, and they SOUND like what Black Metal should sound!
Oh COF have covered too many good songs to fail miserably, they covered anathema's sleepless and it doesn't surprise me why lector returned to anathema (either swapping with dave or martin)
listen to unleashed`s version in my opinion pretty cool i dont care about your people`s comments or opinion ..whether is better on not ..im just saying
I saw an interview where Messiah was talking about that he never drinks while on tour because he wants to keep his voice well for shows. That is true dedication.
Some of the best lyrics ever to appear in a black metal song
'Castles walls are closing, in she's crippled now with age
Welcomes death with open arms, the reaper turns the page'
Amazing
@godalful Note: this actually isn't Candlemass, apparently. It's just Messiah singing with another band.
countaaaayyyyyyyyyys bathoraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
it's a strange cover because of messiah's vocals, but they fit in an odd way. it's pretty awesome
Holy crap! Candlemass doing a Venom tune.... Awesome.
Ich liebe eine Königin.
Eine stolze und wunderschöne Frau.
Love this cover
Great Cover!
Lot of effort put into this video well done one picture!!
Candlemass is a very underrated band.. they really rocks!! songs like bells of acheron is of the very best ever made..!
This version sounds funny but still enjoyable.
I agree with you on this subject. Unleashed redone this song back in the early 90's giving it a death metal sound that complemented the Venom version.
This is not a Candlemass cover. band is John Connelly (Nuclear Assault) Abaddon (Venom) Drew Galón (Forgodsake) & Messiah Marcolin ) Ex Candlemass
i could see them doing this song. its morbidity fits their lyrical themes, and i always saw a little venom in the riffs.
epic original song and Candlemasse's cover.
agree with you. The original is, well the original and Venom does great. But Candlemass cover is really good too.
This isn't Candlemass. It's Mercy with Messiah on vocals.
Awesome
Fascinating
how could they do the miracle of turning one of venom's dark songs into this happy, disney thing?
All hail the great and powerful Messiah!!!
@ub3r2008 check out Into the Unfathomed Tower from the album tales of creation.
I thought it was pretty damn Awesome!
I like the original, I like Venom; and I like Candlemass and the spin they put on it.
@bl4ckmuso I think the same , Bathory and Hellhamer. Venom "invented " Black metal name , style and maybe some lyrics stuff. But they were kinda thrash with black metal stuff.
cool cover!
Decent cover, great band.
welcoming the virgins fair, to live a n-ble life
in the castle known to all - the count’s infernal wife
she invites the peasants with endless lavish foods
but, when evening spreads it wings, she rapes them of
their blood
countess bathory
countess bathory
all day long the virgins sit and feast on endless meals
the countless laughs and sips her wine - her skin doth
crack and peel
but when nighttime fills the air one must pay the price
the countess takes her midnight bath with blood that once
gave life
countess bathory
countess bathory
living in her self styled h-ll, the countess dressed in
black
life’s so distant - death’s so near - no blood to fury
time back
the castle walls are closing in, she’s crippled now with
age
welcomes death with open arms - the reaper turns the page
countess bathory
countess bathory
this is fucking awesome
Countaaaace bathoreeeeiiii
Messiah has a problem - maybe he's too bold - but he is unable to spoil a song.
@remme435 Well thank you. MY girl and i are quite proud of my tool.
I liked this one
Unleashed (Sweden) also did a version of this.
Hi,
Whist I entirely respect your argument and metered response to my somewhat inflamatory O.P , I sadly still disagree. The song was written in a style that, IMO, is entirely illsuited to his voice. It is such a dark song on such an evil matter, that i felt it stood out as opposed to complimenting it.
I will take the time later on to look up the other music they have done and perhaps will report back with my thoughts on that too.
YES!!! Why the hell cant people understand that!
remember though candlemass is doom not thrash or heavy so its basicly taking the song and crossing it over into a different subgenre kinda like vader's future of the past or 1349's cover of buried by time and dust by mayhem
this band is awesome. if you dont like it then dont comment cause if you dont like ALL Metal bands then youre not a real Metal fan
@Solfire69 I was talking how this guy at the picture has the smae clothes and that horned hand as dio
Kasimir (Dee Snider), war ein feiner Mann.
Goldene Kutsche. Seine Treue.
Jan Sobieski IV
You clearly hear it's Messiah singing, but i wonder why he sings like it sounds Bathoray
Agreed
Die Mutter von Jan Sobieski III ist original Countess Bathory.
Sein Vater Kasiemir 2.
Dee Snider. Vater, von Mir.
Jan Sobieski III.
JAN SOBIESKI IV
this guy can actually sing, Venom's guy should've been in a punk band oe something
Las 2 versiones estan ,uy chidas
nikdy mi moc nesedli, prapodivná kapela
Perfect,I like the harmonies more.
This cover gives a nice twist to the original song, but of course you can't beat the original
Agreed. :D
Venom dont hve much in common with the sound of Norwegian Black Metal but just because that became the dominant sound you cant discount Venom as the origionators of Black Metal.....its no coincidence that every band from the inner circle of Norwegian BM has payed tribute to venom one way or another....
the version of Vital Remains is better but this is Doom Metal and it's not bad.
I like it.
Great cover !
Sound funny...Hail Venom.
hmmm, not band, good effort, i love Candlemass \m/
The Fat Man is great!
They don't have to play the same beat either... Just listen to Type O Negative's version of Black Sabbath's Paranoid :P They even added some lyrics :P
What WASPfreak said.
i can't.this voice....
I would call this "Countess Harmony"
@occams99
Haha you sure know a chock full of information.
Thanks for the reply.
I love how half of shitty metal vids on youtube have comments sections that are half devoted to arguing over what type of metal it is
i am not surprized
leif is a great nwobhm collector so he loves venom staff.I thing that they transform it into power metal, destroyins somewhat the demonic mood cronos created.
@MarcinSauron but they do....
:)
so u guys are saying by the way they sing, they cant cover venom
And when did I say that it WASN'T a cover?
This is not from candlemass only messiah marcolin, with Abbadon, drew gallon and john connelly
actually venom was just a thrash metal band who coined the term. and none of them actually even like black metal as a genre.
i am a huge venom fan...i think this cover is pretty decent;) but nothing at all against the original!
Hail Venom, Cronos, Mantas and Abaddon!!!
@sinbysin666 because when those my dying bride and such bands appeared in the mid 90s everyone called that doom metal and naturally connected that, for me not, doom metal with it... doom metal is candlemass, solitude aeturnus and such not my dying bride and anathema...
i prefer this to the original but the original is fucking awesome too!
check out "Most Evil Men & Women In History" book on the chapter of Elizabeth Bathory, she pretty much wrote the book on how to be a woman serial killer, with hundreds of young virgin girls blood on her hands
@occams99
Who is this then? I've always been under the impression it was them covering it.
@godalful
ok, but this is a cover of a Venom song
This version sounds way to happy, especially for some one who killed hundreds of virgins.
i have a cd of this..a tribute to venom
this is like if beatles play dimmu borgir
My favourite black metal cover is Reverend Bizarre's version of Dunkelheit
This is the pop version of Venom's song.. hee hee, still wicked tho.
I'll take this style of singing over cookie monster any day.
Ok, who ever thought it was a good idea to cover this song in a less "don't give a fuck"-version than the original: bad idea!
Where did all the brutality go???
I AM NOT AMUSED!
@godalful Um, oops?
Ich bin Ich selbst.
Yep, this cover is messed up, the vocals are horrible, this is not a song meant to sing (this) clean.
is this guy related to steve grimmett?
I love Candlemass. I love Venom. But this just sounds silly.
That honour belongs only for Venom, because they were the first band to call themselves as a Black Metal, and they SOUND like what Black Metal should sound!
@UfxFxTx Are you listening to the same guy?
Why does Doom Metal have to be slow? Most of the classic Doom bands were pretty uptempo.
Com o Venom fica mais agressivo.
@VideoMask93 shhhhh
Venom is PURE Black Metal. Norweigan black metal bands are lots newer.
@AtheistFarmer troll of the troll lands
Everyone quit arguing and bang your head.
not heavy, not black, not metal, no bass , no power - what a sacrilege to one of the best venom tracks ever
He sounded bad after joining memento mori
It's a venom cover
even the rest of candlemass members didn't like him.
666 likes, nice
reminds me of iron maiden0.0
