Like you said, a Digivice isn't required for evolulution, it just makes things easier and faster. In the original show there was this exchange between taichi and Homoestasis (while possessing hikari) explaining that. Homeostasis: both you and hikari made the digiegg that wondered into the real world evolve into greymon, remember? Taichi: No, he evolved on his own! Homeostasis: Theres is no such thing as a spontaneous evolution... It was because of your presence there that allowed him to evolve into Greymon Taichi: But we didn't do anything, we didn't even have a Digivice Homeostasis: If you think of the Digivice as a merely tool for evolution then you are mistaken Referencing the Original Adventure ova when Taichi and Hikari made Giant Agumon evolve without the help of a Digivice.
Nice reference, but what happens when the human partners get separated from their Digimon and have nothing to defend themselves with when confronted with a Dark Digimon or one that is controlled? The Digivices held the power to push back against the corrupted darkness. Also in the Devimon arc, Izzy met Centarumon who then (after being freed from the Black Gear) showed a mural of an ancient Digivice.
I believe that the director for 02 the beginning stated this movie was intended to be the start of that final march to the original epilogue. He mentioned the discovery of a force that worked to prevent evolution that was extraterrestrial in origin, even saying Yamato and Gabumon went to investigate it, and that the peacefull world we saw in the epilogue was not one that occurred quickly or painlessly. So it seems likely to me that the conclusion that there will be at least one more movie to bring the ending of this and kazuna in line with the epilogue. I can only hope at least because I love the 02 and adventure cast and would love to see one final movie with them.
After seeing the beginning, I can envision the potential for a third and final film focusing on both casts of DigiDestined. Notably, Ukkomon has now reverted to an egg, leaving the door open for everyone in the world to gradually receive a Digimon, similarly to the slow emergence of new Digimon and partners each year as initially mentioned in the film. I think the final film should be a return to the Digital World, ideally set during the summer to echo the events of ’01, bringing the story full circle.
The movie mentioned that there were 60,000 DigiDestined in 2012 and the number doubles each year. By 2027, the estimated number of DigiDestined would be just under 2 billion.
What never made any sense about Kizuna is that Sora, Matt and Tai were the ones who lost their Digimon because they were about to embark on the responsibility of their new careers and the movie made it seem like they're too busy to be with or have their Digimon with them but in that exact same movie you have Mimi, Joe, and Izzy who have full on jobs, careers and internships that are ahead of the other 3 and they have their Digimon just chilling with them in the background or helping out as they're just doing their respective careers. Not to mention Joe is the oldest and he was showing signs of not caring about Digimon or having time for them since tri, and then in Kizuna he's basically working and takes gomamon with him. My issue is that it's not an age thing or a time management thing that takes away your Digimon according to the writers, it's if you're a main character thing it seems.
They did disappear though. Yes when everyone woke up from their comma Joe, Mimi, and Koushiro still have their digimons. But during the ending song, only the 02 casts have their digimon partners with them, unlike Joe, Mimi, and Koushiro who were shown without their Digimon partners. Taichi, Yamato, and Sora were the first ones to have their digivices destroyed, but not long after Joe, Koushiro, and Mimi soon followed. And this is coming from someone who watched the movie yesterday.
We must have watched 2 separate movies, it was never a time management or maturity thing, it's quite literally stated it was a "potential" thing, Tai and mat reached the maximum potential that the had with their partners, reaching the literal final end all evolution of their digimon, reaching the maximum potential of their bonds between eachother, the bond of friendship and courage, once their potential is fully realised, their partners are no longer required to be there with them, as sad as it is, that's what their purpose was, the digimon, to ensure their partners reached the best person they could possibly be, but you are also correct, it is a main character/rival thing, that's just anime

I am for it. It makes sense they're trying to get to that point with a couple more movies or so. All I want at the end is a more up-to-date ending with more ideas for all of the kids' designs, not just copying and pasting the parents' child designs.
It's just annoying that with every new Adventure Media coming out they aren't picking up left Plot Points from the previous one. Digimon Tri had Dark Gennai, Kizuna had the contradiction with the 02 Epilogue and The Beginning has the ominous Higher Power that might or might not be Homoestasis or Yggdrasil. As well as some errors like the fight against Apocalymon kind of contradicting that the Adventure Digidestined could lose the power to evolve their partner's into Perfect and Ultimate levels permamently and Ukkomon being able to revert into a Digiegg despite dying in the Real World which Wizardmon wasn't able to do.
The only other Digimon who dies in the real world and turns into an egg was cocomon. Both were partnered Digimon so that could be it? As long as their partners live then so do they sort of thing.
Let alone a completely missed opportunity to once again gloss over the entire Dark Ocean issue. Not only did Dark Gennai even say in the final Tri movie that he was going to retreat back there, but one of the original digi destined (the detective woman) was implied to be killed there sometime around the 5th movie (which reminded people the place is still a big threat). Let alone they literally used the excuse that something dragged the entire 02 cast into the Dark Ocean to justify why they were all absent during all 6 Tri movies only to pretend nothing happened by this movie. Even Kizuna briefly had a few of them still shaken up by it. Almost feels like they either want to retcon the Tri movies despite making 6 of them or at least purposefully ignore all the plot holes. Yes I'm aware this a year old post, but man looking back Tri 4-6 was one big wth moment looking back as later movies don't address them.
Well, there’s a big problem here because they’re unable to get back to the digital world because the Digivice was used as a link to open the gateway to and from the digital world
Another thing I realized is that Tai’s group’s Digivices were specifically created by Homeostasis & Gennai while Davis’s group were created possibly by the four sovereigns with Gennai’s help. Basically any Digivice that has a direct connection to the Crests / Digimentals should still exist if their potential still exist. I always considered the D3s to be the definitive version of the Adventure Digivice where all of the previous flaws of the old model was fixed (possibly the timer as well).
Wasn’t Izzy working on a method to get into the digital world without a digivice after the end of Kizuna? And based on what we saw in the epilogue, that research was a success. Think about it, at the time of those movies, Izzy was able to transfer the app for digivolution to their phones

My question is does tri still count because we see Meiko in last kizuna with the crowd of kids in the final battle. So that would mean maki and daigo were also chosen children which would mean lui wasn’t the first chosen one. Plus in digimon adventure did Geni say they’re were more kids before the OG cast?
I think there is going to be a 3rd movie too where yggdrasil is the final big boss. Look at ukomon. Big ukomon took the form of a massive tree with all those branches of light and eggs growing like fruit (which are kinda technically the same thing) they go out of the way to tell us he is connected to a higher being but refuse to say who. It makes sense that at some point they need to square off with yggdrasil and maybe even temporarily shut down the digital world server leading to billions of digimon having to find refuge in the human world. As an ambassador tai would see this coming and would be making lots of plans with izzy to contain the impact of the what if scenario. The threat of ukomon likely pushed government entities to consider how theyd approach a world where everyone had a digimon and they have a few years to sort it out. While battling with yggdrasil i assume they would find final saved copies of the 01 digimon data and would be able to restore them (maybe partway through or maybe the 02 kids would take the lead again. Maybe even ukomon would be the main one to bring down yggdrasil) Id also like them to touch on tri a little more. I'm still in the camp of tri is cannon rather ya like it or not because at the very least we know there was an original party of 5 kids before 01. If they were a little older it might have happened after ukomon but it seems to make more sense if their adventure took place beforehand and rui was just unaware of them. I hope you see this comment because i would love to hear your take on a 3rd film prediction where the final boss is yggdrasil.

With the Digivice's gone, I can see everyone's Digimon parter coming back. Maybe in a new movie. I had to watch the ending to 02, and the Digivice's disappearing doesn't retcon anything.

You really have hope for writers and directors to no screw up whatever next movie(s) will be. I mean, look at Tri? Wtf was that even about and what was the point of it and now this movie. I think they throwing darts on a plot board, more like plot holes, to see what kind of nonsense they will throw at us. It's a Digimon, how hard is to write stories that don't have million plot holes.

Imo nothing in the last two movies undoes the epilogue. LEK does end with the Adventure cast losing their partners, but it also ends with the note that they will see eachother again someday. Sure it would be nice to see exactly how, but for all we know Agu/Gabu/Biyo etc are all just in the digital world. As for The Beginning, I read the ending as such that even despite the wish being undone that the bonds between humans and digimon would continue to grow over time and that eventually everyone would have a partner. A friend of mine said that they thought the whole conflict was counter to that, but I saw it as the issue not being everyone getting a partner, just that everyone getting a partner all at once would result in lots of chaos. So yeah while a 3rd film to tie it all together back to the 02 epilogue wouldnt be the worst thing, I think even left as is nothing really is broken.

My concern is that a lot of writers in Japan seem to actively *LIKE* leaving unanswered questions. I don't know why, but it's quite consistent with just about everything connected to Bandai. And they're always BIG questions. This is especially the case with older creators, and it's something of a habit that they bring in their own opinions too, which can be harmful (see the lead writer of Tamers and his 'sequel story' to Tamers involving cancel culture, for example).
@@agustinnegro8854 Generally part of the problem with making this big a thing out of cancel culture is that not only does it tend to make it worse, but it also kinda suggests they've got something to hide. It's also just... really kinda blunt handling of it. It's kind of a weird choice, turning it into some kind of a weapon instead of what it actually is, which is chaos caused by social media trying to self-police when there isn't a suitable alternative (which yes, I know this is exploitable, but it's still a really weird take).
@@Tazer_Silverscar Cancel Culture getting worse because of that, if anything, just proves how bad it. It's not really the writers fault unless they are promoting it. And what with the "trying to hide something" thing? That's an unfair accusation based on bias unless we have actual proof of it. Digimon is a franchise about Digital Monsters where the internet has obviously always been relevant (see Our War Games for example) so it being blunt is expected from the franchise whose characters are just made out of data. Also, there's no need for the "suitable alternative" bit. You and I know very well just from going at sites like Twitter that most people that cancel or dox others simply do it for the rush it gives to ruin someone life behind the screen. Them being right or doing it for a just cause is the minority sadly. The internet cannot have the last word in what's right or not. I know that Right-Wingers use the "Cancel Culture" word a lot, but even if you disagree with the term, you have to accept that it has become very common for people to dox or try to ruin each others lives or reputations simply because. That is pretty much what most people mean when talking about Cancel Culture, and I imagine Konaka was going for the same.
The third film is almost confirmed cuz of the open endings of these films. Besides, it may have been Ukkomon's wish but not its power. Who or whatever its connection is with is still out there, which means the "wish" can still come true. Something that powerful needs a movie of its own and Homeostasis alone could use its own dedicated movie
The only thing I think about with this film is if Lui was intended to be the first Digidestined, then where did the original Five come from? The ones from Tri who had their partners digivolve into the Sovereign Digimon.

I personally wouldn't have minded if the 02 epilogue wasn't canon anymore. The fact that they keep saying it's canon kinda takes away from any stakes or emotional impact the movies could have since we already know it's all leading to the same ending. Also, I kinda hope that after a third Adventure movie, Toei finally shifts its attention to other Digimon franchises. Tamers literally had a time traveling sequel in the form of a audio drama that they never brother to finish and was ended with a freaking cliffhanger, Frontier also had an audio story with the Digidestined a bit older in the real world and it would be nice to see them get some spotlight. Data Squad was totally forgotten after the leaders reunion in Fusion and speaking of Fusion, it ended with a pretty ambiguous open ending that could have meant more adventures for the future. Same for Appmon and Ghost Game. Appmon was mostly in the shadow of Tri, which was aired at almost the same time and Ghost Game was a mess regarding story with the plot taking importance 3 episodes before the actual finale. After everything Toei did with Digimon, they eventually always shifted back to Adventure, sequels, the mostly Tai-centric reboot. At this point I think it's better to just pull the plug on Adventure and let other seasons shine for a while. Especially Tamers and Frontier.
I seriously wish these digimon videos were longer I cannot get enough of them and there’s not nearly enough digimon content on RUclips. Sort of a side effect of having a not very active franchise though unfortunately

I mean, they showed it in both Kizuna & the beginning that smart phones pretty much become the defacto "degivice" for evolution. Them using the D3 was more sentimental. Also, I do think there'll be a follow movie as the beginning feels like a title for a part of a series.
As The Beginning was finishing, I was already thinking that there would have to be another movie. At the very least, Ukkomon's power's mysterious origins feel like sequel bait. And the answer to the question "how does Tai and Matt get Agumon and Gabumon back" feels like it would be a story worth telling. I was worried that they wouldn't want to bring the original Adventure story to a close again after reopening it for Tri. But you make a good point that 2027 would be a great time to put a final bow on the saga of our original 12 digidestined. Although it would need to actually focus on those 12 and not add yet another kid. I personally would like them to do more than a movie. My ideal vision would be a mini series featuring some of the other digidestined, starting with the world tour ones and then movie characters and finally some of the 12 that won't be featured as much in the finale. That can run from August until December 2026, and then at the start of 2027 can be the final movie. August 1 has obvious importance in Adventure canon, but I believe the 02 finale takes place around New Year's Eve so I wanted to call back on that too.
Just finished 02 The Beginning, and I love it. There was a great easter egg in the movie, when they encountered young Taichi and Hikari inside Lui's memory, because this "Adventure" story universe started with Taichi and Hikari's first adventure. I hope this is foreshadowing for the next (maybe final) "Adventure" movie, which director was teasing during an interview, said these movies will eventually connects with 02 epilogue, with everyone and their digimon partner, and hopefully reunion with Agumon and Gabumon. And perhaps next movie will be center around Taichi and Hikari's strained relationship, just my theory. Because she did said Taichi refuse to see her due to busy work, and most likely still recover from "Last Evolution"'s goodbye. God, I still hope they can bring back Dragomon, Daemon and Dark Ocean's storyline, it will be a perfect fit for a final battle against darkness. With Hikari as main character, she could easily attract by Dark Ocean again due to strained relationship with her brother since Kizuna.
Bro I didn't even think about Hikari and Taichi's strained relationship. I feel like the easter egg was something I didn't process but now my brain is scattering all around them not being as close as they used to be and stuff. Also I would love for them to bring back the dark ocean because I think it was such an underused plotline that had a lot of potential and was really interesting.
How does Lui work with the original Digidestined? Aren't they older than all of them? Was he a response to their failure? I love the OG cast, but what I wouldn't give for a movie or TV show about their adventures and answers to what happened to everyone. That little epilogue from tri made me so hungry for more.

It is said by Ukkomon himself that he is related to the god (most likely Homeostasis) and we know Ukkomon can grant wishes, or at least "powerful" enough to create worldwide event related to digimons. The relationship is never clearly explained in the movie, but I’d like to think Ukkomon is the "human" side of Homeostasis, and has only been incarnated into a digimon as per the event in the movie. Or that this particular god has 2 parts, and the part that function like a computer with no feeling is Homeostasis… cuz keep in might even Yggdrasil has feeling and desire, Yggdrasil wants digiworld to thrive, but Homeostasis only want balance and have no personal goal. So Homeostasis and Ukkomon essentially have the same degree of power, just that Homeostasis is much more ancient and knows its power much better, whereas Ukkomon is just an innocent and naive incarnation. Now everything above is just the background for my headcanon to make sense. The actual part that explains the DigiDestined situation is fairly simple: Homeostasis created the OG Digidestined and the main DigiDestined in the series, while Okkumon is responsible for creating all other DigiDestined in the world… thinking about it, the OGs and the mains have a purpose to be chosen, they are called upon to restore the chaos and stuff in digiworld, and all other DigiDestineds are more or less just befriend with their digimons, some cant even reach ultimate level let alone mega. So the actual timeline of event should be: 1) Homeostasis chose the OG -> 2) sometimes after Okkumon manifests itself the same way Homeostasis used to make DigiDestined (cuz their power is of same magnitude) -> 3) Homeostasis chose 01 protagonists -> 4) Okkumon mass produced Digidestined (3 & 4 could overlap in timeline) -> 5) Homeostasis chose 02 protagonists And finally is the logic of it: in the movie, no source other than Lui himself stated that he is the first DigiDestined, all he knows was that Okkumon created other DigiDestined for his wish so he infer that he must be the first… but he wouldnt know if Okkumon is the only one capable of this power. Secondly, Okkumon told him that he (Okkumon) is responsible for the digimons appearance when they saw omegamon on TV, but that is because the main casts and all other DigiDestined are essentially having the same stuff (degivice and partner) so Okkumon thought he did that, but we know Okkumon is not omniscient (all-knowing) cuz he misunderstood Lui’s intention… so it could be that he created most of the unimportant DigiDestined (and they serves the exact purpose Lui wants too - to befriend each other), and also mistaken that he also created the mains, while that is Homeostasis’ doing, not his. And finally the reason Okkumon could make everyone’s digivice disappear even if some are created by Homeostasis also has a simple explanation… cuz in this headcanon they are in the same magnitude of power essentially, so unless Homeostasis actively aware and preventing it (we know Homeostasis couldnt careless), Okkumon’s wish could effectively overwrite the digivice Homeostasis created too.
Agumon and Gabumon can definitely comeback as Gennai states that the digidestined somehow need to obtain unlimited potential to prevent their bond from dissipating. It's never stated whether obtaining unlimited potential after losing your digimon will let you reestablish a bond, but it's on the table.
One way it might work without destroying Earth is for it to be like some of the video games, where the Digital World is accessible via a kind of VR immersive experience, and then the Digimon can enter Earth like advanced holograms. I doubt this is how it goes, because it seems like some are physically interacting on Earth in the epilogue. Just like with this film, I'm clueless but anticipate it greatly.
I think, at least for me, Lui didn’t stop the wish. He only re-enacted the situation, he never went back in time, he just seeing the flashbacks. It was said when they fall, they went through the eggs and not transported. If Lui did change his wishes and future would’ve change but it didn’t, the only thing he managed to stop is forcing others to having a digimon without their consent.
This movie feels like a horror, and that’s why I like it. The moments with Lu and his Ukkonmon. You can easily see how the other kids' Digimon could have become the same way if they didn’t have basic communication. It’s worse with Ukkonman because he says he was created by a greater being, meeting God, and his design is more like Lovecraftian horror. The Digimon themselves first meet the kids and ask them about certain moments. The kids explain these moments to the Digimon and show real world examples of that concept later on or by showing up as humans in the real world. then the kids will ask them. What about you. remember the Digimon aren’t human so they don’t understand concepts of human might have, and it was up to the kids to explain that to them.
I mean, there are instances of the Digidestined not needing Digivices for their partners to evolve, Digimon Survive had the kids with proper partners but no digivices, and the MC of both Cyber Slueths had a canonical partner that was able to evolve without a digivice. On the topic of Agumon, Gabumon, and Biyomon, Jennai never said their Digimon would stop existing, and Matts epilogue monologue about their future implied they just went back to the digital world, and since you cant go to the digital world without a digivice, they are essentially cut off.
Hiiiii! I have 2 questions: - How could it be that Loui and Ukomon where the first digimon companions if the detectives in digimon tri where from the firdt digidestined group? - Could it be possible that the new digivices for everyone will be the smartphones? I think that is a way to connect with new fans.
My theory is that they were able to build a bridge/connection to the digital world and Agumon/Gabumon weren't sent away locked forever, just that Tai and Matt can't reconnect to them via their digivices.
I'm so glad these two sequels are decent movies with solid scripts thought out to be alligned with the canon events of the series in regards to the original digichosens and the second generation of digichosens. There could a third and even a fourth movie. The writers seem to have a plan. As long as the movies are good, bring them! P.S.: Just realized the English translation is digidestined. In Brazil, it's digiescolhido, digichosen.
I don't think a third film is all that necessary, the movie left it ambiguous and even had Lui directly state that he wasn't sure if what he knew was absolutely true. I don't think we need to see them directly find Agumon and Gabumon, we can just assume that something about the Digivice forced them back to digital world when some arbitrary limit was hit, and now that they're gone they can just travel to the digital world and find them like Ken did with Wormmon in 02. It kind of tracks since the digivice is gone so any limit cause by them are gone too, and it works thematically with this movie which implies that the digivice represented a limit on the relation between humans and their partners because some people like Lui believe it's what's connecting them at all without forming bond with his Digimon outside of it. If they make a new film, fine, though it will likely have the same problem later Tri and Kizuna did where half the cast has nothing to do and just show up to show up (this movie balances the 02 cast better, and least they're all directly involved), but I don't think you need it to infer what happens.
So Ive had a few thoughts. 1. With the first two gens of Digivice gone now. What is stopping Koshiro from making a new Man-Made Digivice? He was kinda doing that in Tri/Last Kizuna. 2. Most video games version of the Digivice comes in various forms not just the V-Pet, in Cyber Sleuth they were Cellphones/Goggles, ect. 3.Dark Gennai made a comment about possibly reviving Diaboromon. If a new gate to the Digital World opens connecting the worlds that becomes stable. Diaboromon would make the best final villian to return (also feels deserved so.) Especially since Koshiro has been developing Digimon friendly tech, imagine a more advanced WWW plus access to the Digital World, that tech and the WWW.
A last movie with Omegamon Merciful Mode and Imperialdramon Paladin Mode vs a big bad would be crazy. Also we still need to have Shakkoumon and Silphymon reach mega to match everyone else from the 1st and 2nd cast
If we remember the first digimon mini movie with kid tai and kari. Tai’s concern for agumon and blowing the whistle caused agumon to digivolve. Tai didn’t have a digivice then.
I just wish... They do this with Cel animation ( obv. Impossible ) style software as was used in early 2000's for the colour scheme with present day's precision. They should do this animation with a sense of generational justice and it will get remembered by many.
Ive heard someone in another video theororize that tai and the the others were able to reconnect with their digimon, the same way many adults reconnect with parts of their childhood; through their children. Of course that video game out just after kizuna did
I was just thinking the other day that a future film explaining how the digimon come back might come out in 2027 because it's the irl year of the epilouge. Either that, or in 2029 for the 30th anniversary of the adventure series. I don't mind the ending as it is now, but it would be nice to have a movie that answers all our questions
it will be interesting to see what they do over the next stories to bring it together. the series we got for adventure 20th was terrible but last was good. and the beginning was amazing and didnt feel like it was shitting on everything else like the 20th movie series felt like. on the digivice note the show historically had points where it made the digivice clearly not needed like the original terrace event they didnt have one. the story also kind of matchs the new digimon kind of like culumon where its an important factor to the world function but not something actually making everything happen.
5:23 I thought it was implied that the original digidestined with the exception of TK and Kari also lost their digimon after Last Evolution bc in the credits they all are show without their digimon except for TK and Kari

Honestly i feel like the digimon adventure canon have been a mess since 02 because they just kept using different writers who all came up with their own ideas and vision about the show and it always end up clashing with one another. If they are planning a final movie its going to need a massive plotdump and asspulls to tie up all the loose ends and plot holes or else many fans might not feel satisfied with it and asked for more again
This is just a theory, but bhe vibe I got for the "higher power" Ukkomon was connected to might have something to do with that weird dream dimension where the final fight against MaloMyotismon was. This might be speculation, but the post-credits snippets from Kizuna made me think that Tentomon, Gomamon, and Palmon had all also vanished because, unlike Patamon and Gatomon, they weren't with their partners in those scenes. I still think 02's epilogue is "canon," but I think The Beginning was meant to be an alternate timeline; I'm not exactly big on multiverse theory or anything like that, but the piece at the start of The Beginning where it says "Route 02" gave me the sense that this was an alternate route like in a video game with multiple endings. In that sense, 02's epilogue would be the "bad ending," the canon "destiny" that the eponymous "DigiDestined" were fighting against in The Beginning. I don't think that means Agumon et al are gone forever in either route cuz, like, Tai and Matt say, "I will see you again," at the end of Kizuna, and that feels like a promise as much to us the viewers as it does to themselves.
Given how Morphomon's data was apparently still out there, I've always thought that the data that is Agu, Gabu etc. is kind of caught in between worlds until it is recycled into the Digital World... or maybe the wish has been causing massive amounts of extra data to come into existence and all the 'lost' Digimon are now in a place akin to a desktop's Recycle Bin. Of course, Recycle Bins can be emptied... so who has control of that command and when will the tipping point of this 'Bin' being too full occur? :x
I would love if they somehow ited Tamer to both Adventure and 02. I mean there already has a connection with 02 and Tamer through Ryo. He is originate from 1-2 story but in the game(the one with Milleniumon). Even in the OG 02, He also appear during Ken's story and when Ken was infect with Dark Spore. Heck, If I remember correctly, he also appear during 01 Diaboromon movie too. And if the 3rd Film is all about reunion. I would love to see Tamers also get one too.

So in a sense, at least most kids worldwide already had Digimon by the end of 02. Naturally, more would've been granted in the decade since - Meiko and Meicoomon suddenly make an awful lot of sense instead of being some random newcomers - and it's also safe to guesstimate that Meicoomon too would have been lost in 2010 at the end of Kizuna. And what if the loss of Digivices and D3s everywhere means that any & everyone around the age of the 02 crew - including the 02 crew themselves - *DON'T HAVE TO* worry about what happened to the older 01 crew?? No Digivice, no countdown timer. No countdown timer, no disappearing.

03 did have the members meet their digimon again, so it'd actually line up in that way. If some of the other 01 digimon avoided the fate Agumon, Gabumon, and Biyomon had... I feel *Tentomon* is the most likely to avoid that fate, due to Izzy's future.
wait one second. so this movie now claims that ukkomon and lu were the first partners and that they are the reason that tai's group got their digivices, but isnt digimon adventures tri all about how there was a group of digidestined years prior to them? what about the OG 5 that failed and the ancient digital world died?
Only just saw the movie yesterday and im still unsure how i feel about it. Think i was looking for more answers to the last movie and now i just have more questions. Ill defiantly have to watch it again i think, and i hope the next movie gives me more answers.
I'm late to the party but maybe the Digivice, like the original crest tags in Adventure 1 arent *really* needed. Maybe the Digidestined have the power to induce digivolution through that connection that was made, much like the original were able to evolve without the physical crests because they were always just conduits and the true power of the Crest was within them.
There is a fix in Cannon. In Season 2 we are introduced to the Primary village where all Digimon who perished are reborn. Having every human get a Digimon partner all at once would be a disaster. However over time like a decade would be a strain but it would allow the world to adapt. Also at the end of season 2 we know that the digi world and the real world became connected enough that travel is possible for everyone thus trade would exist to ease the stains of resources.
There is a question that could change everything you explained. Did the original partner digimon really die, or were they sent back to the digital world? Because if they were just sent back, then it's just a matter of finding them once the link to the digital world is established. And everyone having a partner is as simple as people going to the digital world once the link is up. No 3rd movie required.
tbf I'd like very much to see a new series as the conclusive chapter, the perfect filling for all the missing pieces that are left hangin Sure that it can be the maasive nostalgia injection talking, but to see them all back together after 20+ years just made me miss even more the stories being told from a multichapter perspective. It could fit perfectly as a final crusade for the OG dd (including the 02 crew), plus provide fitting answers and deepen the lore, mixing in higher stakes with the themes 02 had throughout its run (upping the ante as they're all grown now). But all in all, I sure as hell hope there's a next chapter - any way it comes. Just think that couldn't hurt to give a little more screen time to clock it all in one final saga 👀
I still have no clue on a third one I feel The movies and tri did everything to mock the ending of 02 and tried to put it in an alternate reality. A new series, bringing all conflict of tri solved and then finally making sense of the 02 adventure would have been great
May I note that everyone on earth seems to have a digimon but are in the digital world in the epilogue? That allows the number of digimon to grow without worrying about the space and food and such for all living beings. That means they need to connect the digital world to the human world without the D3’s. But that is possible. Sure they already have doors that open futuristically in 2027 but by limiting how much technology was shown (cause who knew everyone would have smart phones even in 2012) there must be a lot we don’t know they have.
I guess that a main factor for enjoying the movie is your expectations going in. When I watched the premiere in my country I didn’t expect much because being sidelined is canonical for the 02 cast and that’s kinda what happened anyway, but I liked Lui’s story and how the 02 cast interacted with him and each other and once you realize where the story was going, it’s easier to enjoy it for what it was trying to do

According to it's Wikipedia page, the 02 film is stated as being a "finale to the 02 adventure crew", but that doesn't really make much sense considering the plot holes they've now left lying there. They did try to pitch a Tamers film a few years back, but that got shot down, so if that's not coming, then what is?.
Now, I've recently rewatched the entire Digimon Adventure Series, incl. Tri, Last Evolution Kizuna and The Beginning. And one thing that bothers me is, if you watched the latest Movie it explains how the Kids and their Digimon meet. However, how did Himekawa and the other first Digidestined were the first when Lui said he was the OG Digidestined. Like, the timeline dosen't add up, considering that Himekawa was at least in her 30's in Tri (I think). Although, before Lui became the "first" Digidestined Himekawa and her Friends were the first of their Generation before Digidestined became more common as the Series goes on. And Lui thought he was the "first" because he didn't knew there were others like him before. That's what I at least think. What are your thoughts about that?

So Lui says he was the first digidestined in the movie does he mean the first one with a digivice because they mention the events of tri but daigo and maki were digidestined but I don’t think we saw them with digivices
i wonder if Digivices will start working like Ghost Game, because remember that in Ghost Game the Digivices were made by the father, at least i assume so, anyways in Ghost Game their Digimon were always there just not visible until they used the Digivice, so now instead of using the Digivice as the bond it will just be a tool to help in adventures now

This video was better again. 😊 And making it a Trilogy with a 3rd movie in 2027 would be so cool. The only problem I have with continuity and retconning, isn't between Kizuna, The Beginning and the 02 epilogue but between The Beginning and Adventure Tri and the story of the original DigiDestined.

I mean we do have to realize that there are multiple time lines so the “canon” epilogue is less “canon” and more a possible future. It bears remember that Tri is its own continuity we also got a 2020 reboot, and it feels like Kizuna and the Beginning are there own continuity as well.
Like you said, a Digivice isn't required for evolulution, it just makes things easier and faster. In the original show there was this exchange between taichi and Homoestasis (while possessing hikari) explaining that.
Homeostasis: both you and hikari made the digiegg that wondered into the real world evolve into greymon, remember?
Taichi: No, he evolved on his own!
Homeostasis: Theres is no such thing as a spontaneous evolution... It was because of your presence there that allowed him to evolve into Greymon

Nice reference, but what happens when the human partners get separated from their Digimon and have nothing to defend themselves with when confronted with a Dark Digimon or one that is controlled? The Digivices held the power to push back against the corrupted darkness.
Also in the Devimon arc, Izzy met Centarumon who then (after being freed from the Black Gear) showed a mural of an ancient Digivice.
Also in the last episode of the series they lose there Digi vices and crest (temporary) against apocalypsemon and still digivolve

I believe that the director for 02 the beginning stated this movie was intended to be the start of that final march to the original epilogue. He mentioned the discovery of a force that worked to prevent evolution that was extraterrestrial in origin, even saying Yamato and Gabumon went to investigate it, and that the peacefull world we saw in the epilogue was not one that occurred quickly or painlessly. So it seems likely to me that the conclusion that there will be at least one more movie to bring the ending of this and kazuna in line with the epilogue. I can only hope at least because I love the 02 and adventure cast and would love to see one final movie with them.
After seeing the beginning, I can envision the potential for a third and final film focusing on both casts of DigiDestined. Notably, Ukkomon has now reverted to an egg, leaving the door open for everyone in the world to gradually receive a Digimon, similarly to the slow emergence of new Digimon and partners each year as initially mentioned in the film. I think the final film should be a return to the Digital World, ideally set during the summer to echo the events of ’01, bringing the story full circle.
probably as grown adults the cast 01 and 02 for truly the final threat and a chance to open the gate to meet their partners it makes sense
The movie mentioned that there were 60,000 DigiDestined in 2012 and the number doubles each year. By 2027, the estimated number of DigiDestined would be just under 2 billion.

What never made any sense about Kizuna is that Sora, Matt and Tai were the ones who lost their Digimon because they were about to embark on the responsibility of their new careers and the movie made it seem like they're too busy to be with or have their Digimon with them but in that exact same movie you have Mimi, Joe, and Izzy who have full on jobs, careers and internships that are ahead of the other 3 and they have their Digimon just chilling with them in the background or helping out as they're just doing their respective careers. Not to mention Joe is the oldest and he was showing signs of not caring about Digimon or having time for them since tri, and then in Kizuna he's basically working and takes gomamon with him. My issue is that it's not an age thing or a time management thing that takes away your Digimon according to the writers, it's if you're a main character thing it seems.
They did disappear though. Yes when everyone woke up from their comma Joe, Mimi, and Koushiro still have their digimons. But during the ending song, only the 02 casts have their digimon partners with them, unlike Joe, Mimi, and Koushiro who were shown without their Digimon partners.
Taichi, Yamato, and Sora were the first ones to have their digivices destroyed, but not long after Joe, Koushiro, and Mimi soon followed.
And this is coming from someone who watched the movie yesterday.
We must have watched 2 separate movies, it was never a time management or maturity thing, it's quite literally stated it was a "potential" thing, Tai and mat reached the maximum potential that the had with their partners, reaching the literal final end all evolution of their digimon, reaching the maximum potential of their bonds between eachother, the bond of friendship and courage, once their potential is fully realised, their partners are no longer required to be there with them, as sad as it is, that's what their purpose was, the digimon, to ensure their partners reached the best person they could possibly be, but you are also correct, it is a main character/rival thing, that's just anime

All I want at the end is a more up-to-date ending with more ideas for all of the kids' designs, not just copying and pasting the parents' child designs.

Digimon Tri had Dark Gennai, Kizuna had the contradiction with the 02 Epilogue and The Beginning has the ominous Higher Power that might or might not be Homoestasis or Yggdrasil.
As well as some errors like the fight against Apocalymon kind of contradicting that the Adventure Digidestined could lose the power to evolve their partner's into Perfect and Ultimate levels permamently and Ukkomon being able to revert into a Digiegg despite dying in the Real World which Wizardmon wasn't able to do.

The only other Digimon who dies in the real world and turns into an egg was cocomon. Both were partnered Digimon so that could be it? As long as their partners live then so do they sort of thing.
Let alone a completely missed opportunity to once again gloss over the entire Dark Ocean issue. Not only did Dark Gennai even say in the final Tri movie that he was going to retreat back there, but one of the original digi destined (the detective woman) was implied to be killed there sometime around the 5th movie (which reminded people the place is still a big threat). Let alone they literally used the excuse that something dragged the entire 02 cast into the Dark Ocean to justify why they were all absent during all 6 Tri movies only to pretend nothing happened by this movie. Even Kizuna briefly had a few of them still shaken up by it. Almost feels like they either want to retcon the Tri movies despite making 6 of them or at least purposefully ignore all the plot holes. Yes I'm aware this a year old post, but man looking back Tri 4-6 was one big wth moment looking back as later movies don't address them.

Well, there’s a big problem here because they’re unable to get back to the digital world because the Digivice was used as a link to open the gateway to and from the digital world
Another thing I realized is that Tai’s group’s Digivices were specifically created by Homeostasis & Gennai while Davis’s group were created possibly by the four sovereigns with Gennai’s help. Basically any Digivice that has a direct connection to the Crests / Digimentals should still exist if their potential still exist.
I always considered the D3s to be the definitive version of the Adventure Digivice where all of the previous flaws of the old model was fixed (possibly the timer as well).

Big ukomon took the form of a massive tree with all those branches of light and eggs growing like fruit (which are kinda technically the same thing) they go out of the way to tell us he is connected to a higher being but refuse to say who.
It makes sense that at some point they need to square off with yggdrasil and maybe even temporarily shut down the digital world server leading to billions of digimon having to find refuge in the human world.
As an ambassador tai would see this coming and would be making lots of plans with izzy to contain the impact of the what if scenario. The threat of ukomon likely pushed government entities to consider how theyd approach a world where everyone had a digimon and they have a few years to sort it out.
While battling with yggdrasil i assume they would find final saved copies of the 01 digimon data and would be able to restore them (maybe partway through or maybe the 02 kids would take the lead again. Maybe even ukomon would be the main one to bring down yggdrasil)
Id also like them to touch on tri a little more.
I'm still in the camp of tri is cannon rather ya like it or not because at the very least we know there was an original party of 5 kids before 01.
If they were a little older it might have happened after ukomon but it seems to make more sense if their adventure took place beforehand and rui was just unaware of them.

With the Digivice's gone, I can see everyone's Digimon parter coming back. Maybe in a new movie. I had to watch the ending to 02, and the Digivice's disappearing doesn't retcon anything.
I hope if they make another movie we can see Silphymon digivolve into Valkyriemon and Shakkoumon digivolve into whatever mega toei decides to give him

Imo nothing in the last two movies undoes the epilogue.
LEK does end with the Adventure cast losing their partners, but it also ends with the note that they will see eachother again someday. Sure it would be nice to see exactly how, but for all we know Agu/Gabu/Biyo etc are all just in the digital world.
As for The Beginning, I read the ending as such that even despite the wish being undone that the bonds between humans and digimon would continue to grow over time and that eventually everyone would have a partner. A friend of mine said that they thought the whole conflict was counter to that, but I saw it as the issue not being everyone getting a partner, just that everyone getting a partner all at once would result in lots of chaos.
So yeah while a 3rd film to tie it all together back to the 02 epilogue wouldnt be the worst thing, I think even left as is nothing really is broken.
All the character designs are just so gosh dang attractive. Yolei and TK are probably my favorites, but they all just drip with style.

My concern is that a lot of writers in Japan seem to actively *LIKE* leaving unanswered questions. I don't know why, but it's quite consistent with just about everything connected to Bandai. And they're always BIG questions. This is especially the case with older creators, and it's something of a habit that they bring in their own opinions too, which can be harmful (see the lead writer of Tamers and his 'sequel story' to Tamers involving cancel culture, for example).

It's also just... really kinda blunt handling of it. It's kind of a weird choice, turning it into some kind of a weapon instead of what it actually is, which is chaos caused by social media trying to self-police when there isn't a suitable alternative (which yes, I know this is exploitable, but it's still a really weird take).

Also, there's no need for the "suitable alternative" bit. You and I know very well just from going at sites like Twitter that most people that cancel or dox others simply do it for the rush it gives to ruin someone life behind the screen. Them being right or doing it for a just cause is the minority sadly. The internet cannot have the last word in what's right or not. I know that Right-Wingers use the "Cancel Culture" word a lot, but even if you disagree with the term, you have to accept that it has become very common for people to dox or try to ruin each others lives or reputations simply because. The fact that they keep saying it's canon kinda takes away from any stakes or emotional impact the movies could have since we already know it's all leading to the same ending. Also, I kinda hope that after a third Adventure movie, Toei finally shifts its attention to other Digimon franchises. Tamers literally had a time traveling sequel in the form of a audio drama that they never brother to finish and was ended with a freaking cliffhanger, Frontier also had an audio story with the Digidestined a bit older in the real world and it would be nice to see them get some spotlight. Data Squad was totally forgotten after the leaders reunion in Fusion and speaking of Fusion, it ended with a pretty ambiguous open ending that could have meant more adventures for the future. Same for Appmon and Ghost Game. Appmon was mostly in the shadow of Tri, which was aired at almost the same time and Ghost Game was a mess regarding story with the plot taking importance 3 episodes before the actual finale. After everything Toei did with Digimon, they eventually always shifted back to Adventure, sequels, the mostly Tai-centric reboot. At this point I think it's better to just pull the plug on Adventure and let other seasons shine for a while. Especially Tamers and Frontier.
Maybe this third movie could tie everything together, including the Evil Gennai subplot
I seriously wish these digimon videos were longer I cannot get enough of them and there’s not nearly enough digimon content on RUclips. Sort of a side effect of having a not very active franchise though unfortunately

I mean, they showed it in both Kizuna & the beginning that smart phones pretty much become the defacto "degivice" for evolution. Them using the D3 was more sentimental. Also, I do think there'll be a follow movie as the beginning feels like a title for a part of a series.
As The Beginning was finishing, I was already thinking that there would have to be another movie. At the very least, Ukkomon's power's mysterious origins feel like sequel bait. And the answer to the question "how does Tai and Matt get Agumon and Gabumon back" feels like it would be a story worth telling. I was worried that they wouldn't want to bring the original Adventure story to a close again after reopening it for Tri. But you make a good point that 2027 would be a great time to put a final bow on the saga of our original 12 digidestined. Although it would need to actually focus on those 12 and not add yet another kid.
I personally would like them to do more than a movie. My ideal vision would be a mini series featuring some of the other digidestined, starting with the world tour ones and then movie characters and finally some of the 12 that won't be featured as much in the finale. That can run from August until December 2026, and then at the start of 2027 can be the final movie. August 1 has obvious importance in Adventure canon, but I believe the 02 finale takes place around New Year's Eve so I wanted to call back on that too.
I really hope we get a sequel. I know they've been divisive, but I've really loved Kizuna and the Beginning.
Just finished 02 The Beginning, and I love it. There was a great easter egg in the movie, when they encountered young Taichi and Hikari inside Lui's memory, because this "Adventure" story universe started with Taichi and Hikari's first adventure. I hope this is foreshadowing for the next (maybe final) "Adventure" movie, which director was teasing during an interview, said these movies will eventually connects with 02 epilogue, with everyone and their digimon partner, and hopefully reunion with Agumon and Gabumon.
And perhaps next movie will be center around Taichi and Hikari's strained relationship, just my theory. Because she did said Taichi refuse to see her due to busy work, and most likely still recover from "Last Evolution"'s goodbye. God, I still hope they can bring back Dragomon, Daemon and Dark Ocean's storyline, it will be a perfect fit for a final battle against darkness. With Hikari as main character, she could easily attract by Dark Ocean again due to strained relationship with her brother since Kizuna.
Bro I didn't even think about Hikari and Taichi's strained relationship. I feel like the easter egg was something I didn't process but now my brain is scattering all around them not being as close as they used to be and stuff. Also I would love for them to bring back the dark ocean because I think it was such an underused plotline that had a lot of potential and was really interesting.

How does Lui work with the original Digidestined? Aren't they older than all of them? Was he a response to their failure? I love the OG cast, but what I wouldn't give for a movie or TV show about their adventures and answers to what happened to everyone. That little epilogue from tri made me so hungry for more.

First of all, Ukkomon. It is said by Ukkomon himself that he is related to the god (most likely Homeostasis) and we know Ukkomon can grant wishes, or at least "powerful" enough to create worldwide event related to digimons. The relationship is never clearly explained in the movie, but I’d like to think Ukkomon is the "human" side of Homeostasis, and has only been incarnated into a digimon as per the event in the movie. Or that this particular god has 2 parts, and the part that function like a computer with no feeling is Homeostasis… cuz keep in might even Yggdrasil has feeling and desire, Yggdrasil wants digiworld to thrive, but Homeostasis only want balance and have no personal goal. So Homeostasis and Ukkomon essentially have the same degree of power, just that Homeostasis is much more ancient and knows its power much better, whereas Ukkomon is just an innocent and naive incarnation.
Now everything above is just the background for my headcanon to make sense. The actual part that explains the DigiDestined situation is fairly simple: Homeostasis created the OG Digidestined and the main DigiDestined in the series, while Okkumon is responsible for creating all other DigiDestined in the world… thinking about it, the OGs and the mains have a purpose to be chosen, they are called upon to restore the chaos and stuff in digiworld, and all other DigiDestineds are more or less just befriend with their digimons, some cant even reach ultimate level let alone mega.
So the actual timeline of event should be: 1) Homeostasis chose the OG -> 2) sometimes after Okkumon manifests itself the same way Homeostasis used to make DigiDestined (cuz their power is of same magnitude) -> 3) Homeostasis chose 01 protagonists -> 4) Okkumon mass produced Digidestined (3 & 4 could overlap in timeline) -> 5) Homeostasis chose 02 protagonists
And finally is the logic of it: in the movie, no source other than Lui himself stated that he is the first DigiDestined, all he knows was that Okkumon created other DigiDestined for his wish so he infer that he must be the first… but he wouldnt know if Okkumon is the only one capable of this power. Secondly, Okkumon told him that he (Okkumon) is responsible for the digimons appearance when they saw omegamon on TV, but that is because the main casts and all other DigiDestined are essentially having the same stuff (degivice and partner) so Okkumon thought he did that, but we know Okkumon is not omniscient (all-knowing) cuz he misunderstood Lui’s intention… so it could be that he created most of the unimportant DigiDestined (and they serves the exact purpose Lui wants too - to befriend each other), and also mistaken that he also created the mains, while that is Homeostasis’ doing, not his. And finally the reason Okkumon could make everyone’s digivice disappear even if some are created by Homeostasis also has a simple explanation… cuz in this headcanon they are in the same magnitude of power essentially, so unless Homeostasis actively aware and preventing it (we know Homeostasis couldnt careless), Okkumon’s wish could effectively overwrite the digivice Homeostasis created too.

Agumon and Gabumon can definitely comeback as Gennai states that the digidestined somehow need to obtain unlimited potential to prevent their bond from dissipating. It's never stated whether obtaining unlimited potential after losing your digimon will let you reestablish a bond, but it's on the table.

One way it might work without destroying Earth is for it to be like some of the video games, where the Digital World is accessible via a kind of VR immersive experience, and then the Digimon can enter Earth like advanced holograms. I doubt this is how it goes, because it seems like some are physically interacting on Earth in the epilogue. Just like with this film, I'm clueless but anticipate it greatly.
I think, at least for me, Lui didn’t stop the wish. He only re-enacted the situation, he never went back in time, he just seeing the flashbacks. It was said when they fall, they went through the eggs and not transported. If Lui did change his wishes and future would’ve change but it didn’t, the only thing he managed to stop is forcing others to having a digimon without their consent.
this movie was traumatizing when Ukkomon melts and the entire emotional breakdown, not quite what i expected after the superb Last Evolution Kizuna
Just watched the movie today and I enjoyed, seeing the Digivices disappear was sad but at least the Digidestin and their Digimon are still together.
This movie feels like a horror, and that’s why I like it. The moments with Lu and his Ukkonmon. You can easily see how the other kids' Digimon could have become the same way if they didn’t have basic communication. It’s worse with Ukkonman because he says he was created by a greater being, meeting God, and his design is more like Lovecraftian horror.
The Digimon themselves first meet the kids and ask them about certain moments. The kids explain these moments to the Digimon and show real world examples of that concept later on or by showing up as humans in the real world. then the kids will ask them. What about you.
remember the Digimon aren’t human so they don’t understand concepts of human might have, and it was up to the kids to explain that to them.
I mean, there are instances of the Digidestined not needing Digivices for their partners to evolve, Digimon Survive had the kids with proper partners but no digivices, and the MC of both Cyber Slueths had a canonical partner that was able to evolve without a digivice.
On the topic of Agumon, Gabumon, and Biyomon, Jennai never said their Digimon would stop existing, and Matts epilogue monologue about their future implied they just went back to the digital world, and since you cant go to the digital world without a digivice, they are essentially cut off.

Hiiiii! I have 2 questions:
- How could it be that Loui and Ukomon where the first digimon companions if the detectives in digimon tri where from the firdt digidestined group?
- Could it be possible that the new digivices for everyone will be the smartphones? I think that is a way to connect with new fans.
My theory is that they were able to build a bridge/connection to the digital world and Agumon/Gabumon weren't sent away locked forever, just that Tai and Matt can't reconnect to them via their digivices.
I'm so glad these two sequels are decent movies with solid scripts thought out to be alligned with the canon events of the series in regards to the original digichosens and the second generation of digichosens. There could a third and even a fourth movie. The writers seem to have a plan. As long as the movies are good, bring them!

I don't think a third film is all that necessary, the movie left it ambiguous and even had Lui directly state that he wasn't sure if what he knew was absolutely true. I don't think we need to see them directly find Agumon and Gabumon, we can just assume that something about the Digivice forced them back to digital world when some arbitrary limit was hit, and now that they're gone they can just travel to the digital world and find them like Ken did with Wormmon in 02. It kind of tracks since the digivice is gone so any limit cause by them are gone too, and it works thematically with this movie which implies that the digivice represented a limit on the relation between humans and their partners because some people like Lui believe it's what's connecting them at all without forming bond with his Digimon outside of it. If they make a new film, fine, though it will likely have the same problem later Tri and Kizuna did where half the cast has nothing to do and just show up to show up (this movie balances the 02 cast better, and least they're all directly involved), but I don't think you need it to infer what happens.
We need a third film as a conclusion reunion older.

So Ive had a few thoughts.
1. With the first two gens of Digivice gone now. What is stopping Koshiro from making a new Man-Made Digivice? He was kinda doing that in Tri/Last Kizuna.
2. Most video games version of the Digivice comes in various forms not just the V-Pet, in Cyber Sleuth they were Cellphones/Goggles, ect.
3.Dark Gennai made a comment about possibly reviving Diaboromon. If a new gate to the Digital World opens connecting the worlds that becomes stable. Diaboromon would make the best final villian to return (also feels deserved so.) Especially since Koshiro has been developing Digimon friendly tech, imagine a more advanced WWW plus access to the Digital World, that tech and the WWW.
A last movie with Omegamon Merciful Mode and Imperialdramon Paladin Mode vs a big bad would be crazy.
Also we still need to have Shakkoumon and Silphymon reach mega to match everyone else from the 1st and 2nd cast
If we remember the first digimon mini movie with kid tai and kari. Tai’s concern for agumon and blowing the whistle caused agumon to digivolve. Tai didn’t have a digivice then.
I just wish... They do this with Cel animation ( obv. Impossible ) style software as was used in early 2000's for the colour scheme with present day's precision. They should do this animation with a sense of generational justice and it will get remembered by many.

I was just thinking the other day that a future film explaining how the digimon come back might come out in 2027 because it's the irl year of the epilouge. Either that, or in 2029 for the 30th anniversary of the adventure series. I don't mind the ending as it is now, but it would be nice to have a movie that answers all our questions
it will be interesting to see what they do over the next stories to bring it together. the series we got for adventure 20th was terrible but last was good. and the beginning was amazing and didnt feel like it was shitting on everything else like the 20th movie series felt like.
on the digivice note the show historically had points where it made the digivice clearly not needed like the original terrace event they didnt have one.
the story also kind of matchs the new digimon kind of like culumon where its an important factor to the world function but not something actually making everything happen.

Honestly i feel like the digimon adventure canon have been a mess since 02 because they just kept using different writers who all came up with their own ideas and vision about the show and it always end up clashing with one another.
If they are planning a final movie its going to need a massive plotdump and asspulls to tie up all the loose ends and plot holes or else many fans might not feel satisfied with it and asked for more again

This is just a theory, but bhe vibe I got for the "higher power" Ukkomon was connected to might have something to do with that weird dream dimension where the final fight against MaloMyotismon was.
This might be speculation, but the post-credits snippets from Kizuna made me think that Tentomon, Gomamon, and Palmon had all also vanished because, unlike Patamon and Gatomon, they weren't with their partners in those scenes. I still think 02's epilogue is "canon," but I think The Beginning was meant to be an alternate timeline; I'm not exactly big on multiverse theory or anything like that, but the piece at the start of The Beginning where it says "Route 02" gave me the sense that this was an alternate route like in a video game with multiple endings. In that sense, 02's epilogue would be the "bad ending," the canon "destiny" that the eponymous "DigiDestined" were fighting against in The Beginning. I don't think that means Agumon et al are gone forever in either route cuz, like, Tai and Matt say, "I will see you again," at the end of Kizuna, and that feels like a promise as much to us the viewers as it does to themselves.

Given how Morphomon's data was apparently still out there, I've always thought that the data that is Agu, Gabu etc. is kind of caught in between worlds until it is recycled into the Digital World... or maybe the wish has been causing massive amounts of extra data to come into existence and all the 'lost' Digimon are now in a place akin to a desktop's Recycle Bin.
Of course, Recycle Bins can be emptied... so who has control of that command and when will the tipping point of this 'Bin' being too full occur? :x

I mean there already has a connection with 02 and Tamer through Ryo. He is originate from 1-2 story but in the game(the one with Milleniumon). Even in the OG 02, He also appear during Ken's story and when Ken was infect with Dark Spore.

Didn't we see that a lot of kids had their own Digivices and partner Digimon during the World Tour arc of 02, though? So in a sense, at least most kids worldwide already had Digimon by the end of 02. Naturally, more would've been granted in the decade since - Meiko and Meicoomon suddenly make an awful lot of sense instead of being some random newcomers - and it's also safe to guesstimate that Meicoomon too would have been lost in 2010 at the end of Kizuna.
And what if the loss of Digivices and D3s everywhere means that any & everyone around the age of the 02 crew - including the 02 crew themselves - *DON'T HAVE TO* worry about what happened to the older 01 crew?? No Digivice, no countdown timer. No countdown timer, no disappearing.

Only just saw the movie yesterday and im still unsure how i feel about it. Think i was looking for more answers to the last movie and now i just have more questions. Ill defiantly have to watch it again i think, and i hope the next movie gives me more answers.

I'm late to the party but maybe the Digivice, like the original crest tags in Adventure 1 arent *really* needed. Maybe the Digidestined have the power to induce digivolution through that connection that was made, much like the original were able to evolve without the physical crests because they were always just conduits and the true power of the Crest was within them.

There is a fix in Cannon. In Season 2 we are introduced to the Primary village where all Digimon who perished are reborn.
Having every human get a Digimon partner all at once would be a disaster. However over time like a decade would be a strain but it would allow the world to adapt. Also at the end of season 2 we know that the digi world and the real world became connected enough that travel is possible for everyone thus trade would exist to ease the stains of resources.
There is a question that could change everything you explained. Did the original partner digimon really die, or were they sent back to the digital world? Because if they were just sent back, then it's just a matter of finding them once the link to the digital world is established. And everyone having a partner is as simple as people going to the digital world once the link is up. No 3rd movie required.
tbf I'd like very much to see a new series as the conclusive chapter, the perfect filling for all the missing pieces that are left hangin
Sure that it can be the maasive nostalgia injection talking, but to see them all back together after 20+ years just made me miss even more the stories being told from a multichapter perspective. It could fit perfectly as a final crusade for the OG dd (including the 02 crew), plus provide fitting answers and deepen the lore, mixing in higher stakes with the themes 02 had throughout its run (upping the ante as they're all grown now).
But all in all, I sure as hell hope there's a next chapter - any way it comes. Just think that couldn't hurt to give a little more screen time to clock it all in one final saga 👀

May I note that everyone on earth seems to have a digimon but are in the digital world in the epilogue? That allows the number of digimon to grow without worrying about the space and food and such for all living beings. That means they need to connect the digital world to the human world without the D3’s. But that is possible. Sure they already have doors that open futuristically in 2027 but by limiting how much technology was shown (cause who knew everyone would have smart phones even in 2012) there must be a lot we don’t know they have.

I guess that a main factor for enjoying the movie is your expectations going in. When I watched the premiere in my country I didn’t expect much because being sidelined is canonical for the 02 cast and that’s kinda what happened anyway, but I liked Lui’s story and how the 02 cast interacted with him and each other and once you realize where the story was going, it’s easier to enjoy it for what it was trying to do

According to it's Wikipedia page, the 02 film is stated as being a "finale to the 02 adventure crew", but that doesn't really make much sense considering the plot holes they've now left lying there.

Now, I've recently rewatched the entire Digimon Adventure Series, incl. Tri, Last Evolution Kizuna and The Beginning. And one thing that bothers me is, if you watched the latest Movie it explains how the Kids and their Digimon meet. However, how did Himekawa and the other first Digidestined were the first when Lui said he was the OG Digidestined. Like, the timeline dosen't add up, considering that Himekawa was at least in her 30's in Tri (I think). Although, before Lui became the "first" Digidestined Himekawa and her Friends were the first of their Generation before Digidestined became more common as the Series goes on. And Lui thought he was the "first" because he didn't knew there were others like him before. That's what I at least think. What are your thoughts about that?
