    What a awesome way to pump water and very reliable,I remember when you put the pump in and it's still working fine, so that shows how very reliable they are. Thanks for another great video.

    Plastic should not be used for the drive pipe. Steel is required.

    Bert, thanks for answering. I did, however, watch the first video on the ram pump being built. I understand the purpose/function of the pvc compression chamber part of the ram pump unit.
    My curiosity was directed to the up-line "stand pipe" shown in this latest video. The up-line "standpipe" in this latest video is open at the top, and is there to relieve the shock forces on the supply line that are generated by the check valve closing. Being open also allows it to act like a vacuum breaker.

  • @flamedrag18
    @flamedrag18 11 лет назад

    you really should raise the area where the pump sits, just a wooden platform for the pump to sit on through the winter so it's not submerged. also, have a shut off valve at the top of the drive pipe to shut it off during the winter if you're not using it and have another valve at the pump with a T joint so you can empty the drive pipe to eliminate any chance of breaking the drive pipe with locked in water. you have the right idea for buying the supply pipe though. still a great design.

    it looks like your intake is a PVC pipe.
    might i recommend that you use a large reducer to go up to about 6" or 8" dia pipe. then using a hole saw drill a number of holes in the larger pipe. wrap the whole assembly in your screen.
    this all equates to slowing your intake so foreign objects are less likely to stick to your screen. and even if one of your multiple 'inlet holes' gets plugged, you have more to rely on.
    just trying to limit the amount of maintenance / time you spend on it.
    great work!

    you should put a coupler on the end of your intake pipe so it has a flared out area and the screen cannot slip off so easily

    You moved the inlet. In part 2 of the installation video, you dammed the water coming from the metal corrugated pipe and ran your inlet into that pool of water to draw from. In this video, it appears that the inlet was moved to another pool of water at ground level. Maybe below where the corrugated pipe outlets? I wonder why the change?

    On the supply side, the feedline had a "standpipe" that you passed. Is the standpipe capped to trap air, or is it open? What is it's function? Thank you for your answer.

    Great educational video as usual, the pump is pretty nice, but I read that those units are very inefficient, most of the water goes out the waste valve. Is this of concern to you or would the water from your pond run off anyway?

    • @Arglefaster
      @Arglefaster Год назад

      They're water-inefficient, but that's a necessity -- if you want to pump the water up higher than it has come down, the energy to get it up the hill has to come from somewhere, and that "where" is by lots more water falling down to the pump than is getting pumped up. These things are useful where there's a lot of water available -- if you need all the water that's coming out of your source then you need to find another source of energy for the pumping.

    Ok so i want to pump water from a small pool through black hose to heat it and back into the pool now i belive i can gravity feed it down to the pump and it will work from what i have seen but i cant be wasting all that water how can i get my over flow waste water whatever you want to call it back up into the pool? Could i hook a hose to the one thing that is wasting water on the ground?

    Cody I just wondered if you had a couple of these running could you use to power a water wheel to partially supply you with electricity, further enhancing your ability to live off grid

    • @ArkansasPilgrim
      @ArkansasPilgrim 8 лет назад

      +Zack Schaffer You can't use this for a water wheel. It uses ALL of the energy in the water to pump a FRACTION of the water uphill. There isn't any energy left to run a water wheel.

    • @mattheritage
      @mattheritage 7 лет назад

      I disagree. The water coming from your discharge is a fraction of the input... however the discharge water still has energy. It would be more efficient to run the water wheel down by the pump and use the same source of water to turn a water wheel and run the ram pump. However you could also put a water wheel at the top (Discharge) and gather that energy as well. IE one idea I had was to put my discharge several feet above my collection tank, and then place a water wheel between the discharge and the tank to harness the energy of the discharge water. Might not be much, but it's 24/7.

    can this technology be used for drawing water up through a well and if so, what's the approximate depth?

    • @gordonwilloughby8793
      @gordonwilloughby8793 6 лет назад

      It will only work if the water can flow from the well to a lower place with enough drop to run the pump. If the water is so low in the well that there is no place for it to flow out it won't work. If it is a flowing well that raises the water enough so it can drop a ways to create some pressure to run the pump it should be able to work.
