"I don't like that Julie is using the modelling world to get somewhere else." Says Tyra...on her television show that uses the modelling world as a backdrop for a gameshow.
Tyra literally used her modelling career to become a reality competition host, then a talk show host, then did another competition show, whatever the hell “Modelland” was, and that time she made a whole freaking MLM! And I know I’m missing a bunch that ISNT MODELLING 😤
And later in season 6, they have a photo shoot themed around lives after top model, in which I remember jade being a grade school teacher was the most hilarious thing lol and on season 14 or something, they had a whole skit about making over ones career. justice for Julie!
“I don’t get crying over hair, it’s just hair.” Says the girl that got extentions and has full, long, blonde waves. Meanwhile some of the others got screwed over badly.
exactly...i remember years ago i told my kids mom who had long curly natural blonde hair to stop cutting her hair because of her diseases and her issues after giving brith she told me im just "jealous" she was a diehard tyra banks fan for years she kept cutting short cause of people like tyra which due to her illnesses she has causes her hair to thin out each hair cut she gets she now her hair wont grow after years of getting it professionally done...despite she was warned she has small spots in her head now tyra is being extremely abusive sorry...its all about her breaking these women's will not about actual modeling
@@Chuck_ELhair cuts do not cause hair loss. If she has a health condition which has caused hair loss, that would still be the case regardless of how often/rarely, short/long she cut her hair. I hope she is doing well, and I hope you’ll think again before telling a woman how YOU think she should wear her own hair.
@Chuck-El You said that you told your kids' mother to stop cutting her hair because of the diseases she has, not that the doctor advised her to stop doing it. I'm not surprised it didn't go down well coming from a partner or ex-partner, especially if she was post-partum.
Even as someone who has never gotten upset over hair cuts (I really truly don’t care as it can be fixed), i can still EMPATHIZE with how upsetting it can be. That hair was her security blanket. It made her feel safe. She felt like she was losing her identity. How can people not understand that??
Something that’s been on my mind for ages, is how obsessed I am with Luxeria’s editing, because she perfectly blends together internet memes, with her self made memes, it’s absolutely fantastic to watch.
My daughter had super long hair yrs ago, she had over a foot cut off and we were going to donate it to locks of love, until I found out they charge the families for the hair.. it’s not free for the children with cancer at all. So we went with a different charity that does give it free.. sad but true.
Wigs For Kids is a charity that gives out wigs for free to kids with cancer and disorders that cause hair picking. I donated to them when I had 14 inches cut off. They seem like a genuinely good charity and certainly are very grateful for donations.
My partner has the old Top Model game for the Nintendo DS, it's where you make a character and compete to be ANTM. You have to walk the runway, do photoshoots, workout, make friends/enemies with the other contestants, and phone your boyfriend once a week. The part I found the most disturbing was when I took my character into the restaurant and the sever explained that if I eat their 'unhealthy' food I would lose fitness points and I was like "hmm okay I guess" then she went on to say "remember: fat past the lips, goes straight to the hips" this was a game for children... I often forget growing up in the late 90's/early 2000's how much this stuff was driven into us. It's no wonder I have had body dysmorphia since I was 7 years old. It's wild to look back at how bad it was.
Lol I had that game and I always ate the bad food lol. I agree beauty standards back then were crazy. I got bullied for my body to where I threw up my food and starved myself. At the time I was 200 hundred. Within three months of doing all that I weighed 140. It was bad. Still got made fun of. Now though I wouldn't change my body for anyone. I hope you are doing well now.
As someone that was forced to eat bigger meals in school by school nurse becouse me was to slim still today has issues with food from it. If not want to eat that I can't. And 45 years old now. I was not bad I eat alot. It was just not sticking
I remember from when it aired that I found scandalous that they insisted that RETOUCHING is very expensive and the model's skin should not need to be retouched when ALL the photos in the competition are retouched and photoshopped to hell and back. It was a recurring theme for Yaya and every time it made me furious
Ebony too, in cycle 1. There was such a strange racial angle to it as well, with Ebony. Tyra said, "As an African-American woman your skin should be like butter". I'm white so obviously I don't know about that, but that seemed so odd.
I hate that Cassie explicitly said to Amanda she didn't want everyone to know about it, but then Amanda justifies herself saying: why did she tell me if she didn't want people to know? Girl, she literally asked you not to tell, you have absolutely no justification. Also, it annoys me so much that then she started crying, and trying to play the victim because now "she is the bad guy". In my opinion, she doesn't regret doing it because of the consequences it had for Cassie, she regrets doing it because it made her look bad.
I can't believe they stopped her braces treatment early! Stopping them early could cause them to either shift back, or if she had bite issue, not fully fix her issues. Especially since she probably payed 1,000s of dollars on those, they basically short changed her for tv.
Kind of agree and kind of not. One could as well think she could wait until her treatment was done until she applied for the show. Yes, I think they can stop any treatment they want at any time.
I get it, though I'm pretty sure they were about to come off anyways. I can't remember exactly, but I think she says at some point that she's only supposed to wear them for a couple more months. We definitely hear her tell the Orthodontist removing them that she's had them for "almost two years," and when he says "you must be itching to get them off" or whatever, it kind of sounds like he's saying that because she was supposed to wear them for two years. The "retainers" he gives her could also be Invisalign if she needs any further correcting, and I doubt they would have explained all of that on the show back then, especially since Invisalign wasn't very popular yet. Most people don't need braces for longer than 2 years anyways, and any serious issues are almost certainly fixed by that point for the ones that do. I'd never really thought too much about it before now tbh, because I don't think I personally know anyone who's worn "traditional" braces for longer than 2 years, but I DO know people who switched to Invisalign during their treatment for cosmetic reasons. It kind of reminded me of how a lot of us (myself included) insisted on getting contact lenses before starting high school, because I started noticing it happening around the same time my peers and I stopped wearing glasses all the time. I'm sure it had something to do with the fact that most dental insurance paid for traditional braces (at least partially), but Invisalign was still expensive, like how glasses could be free if you got inexpensive frames, but a contact lens allowance didn't always exist so they had to be paid for out of pocket... Idk. That was a long ass comment, but just some thoughts 🤷 LMAO 😂
Yaya is who I wanted to win when this season was on TV years ago. Funnily enough she's one of the more successful of the Top Model girls. She's had an acting career since Top Model. She's on Chicago Med. Also, yes CoverGirl is in every drug store, grocery store, Walmart etc. They don't have their own magazine but have ads in tons of magazines and TV commercials. It's a good quality brand that's affordable for everyone.
I feel so bad for Cassie, she was 19, she's just a baby my god. I could feel the panic in that scene too, I thought Jennipher actually handled it very well, she voiced concern for her health in a very soft & not accusatory way. She was very gentle with her response, unlike Amanda rolling her eyes & Ann being very judgmental. It's crazy the maturity from Yaya, Jennipher and even Eva this episode considering how young they all are
I remember seeing Amanda interviewed on a VH1 (remember that?) show "ANTM exposed" (or something like that) where she said "It's not a modelling competition - it's a reality TV show" - and I think that says it all!
It's wild to me that ANTM told on itself by showing the unedited photos and even doing the back-and-forth comparison for us all to see the manipulation of the eyebrow.
I just noticed… they all flip out at how wonderful Amanda’s unretouched photo is… but it’s because the light source was dead-on in front of her face, so any under eye darkness or skin imperfections would be blown out… the other girls they were gasping about having awful unretouched photos didn’t have that, they were facing the camera AWAY from the light on the side, which emphasizes under eye circles (because human beings have eye sockets) and stuff like that. Same thing with Nicole having a nice unretouched photo… she is facing the light! And Kelly’s original photo? The “Hitchcock film”? It’s a shadow from her brow bone. Her skin is flawless. Ugh I’m annoyed. 😂 Insufferable.
Amanda was crying to her mom because she didn't like that she was now seen as an untrustworthy, NOT because she felt remorse for having broken the confidence. She was crying for HERSELF
I have so many questions. Which hour, did she figure this out in retrospect or was she watching the towers burn while getting freaky, and WHY is that something she felt the need to mention?
It's extremely weird. Like, "I had morning sex, and then I turned on the news and it was really bad that day, and I wasn't having sex very often back then so I know exactly which bang resulted in conceiving." An extremely odd thing to say in general.
My mom was a makeup artist for Maybelline and L’Oreal (she even got to do makeup for spokesmodels like Halle Barry) in the naughties, and I remember her yelling at the TV about how bad Jay is at Makeup lmao. Also before the eyebrow craze, my mom would fill in HER OWN (she did not do this on other people) brows with sharpie because they didn’t have good brow pencils. Covergirl was huge over here, but not as much anymore.
What?!!!! I thought the OG makeup artist trick was to fill in brows with a graphite pencil, not a sharpie. That could not have been good to do regularly with an.alcohol based marker around the eyes. All that aside, I’d love to know more stories or tricks of the trade that your mom used!
Oh man, the Cassie situation. As someone who struggled with ED in the past, watching this as an adult makes me sad. I think Cassie really was torn at the time, she wanted help and she wanted to be understood, but felt completely violated by everyone talking about it the way they did so she immediately shut down about it. If only she had felt more safe at the time (and it wasn't on a reality show). I hope she was eventually able to get help that she needed.
Hugs… my daughter restricts on occasion, more as a form of self-harm; she doesn’t really have body dysmorphia. She cuts and burns herself too 😭… she has quite severe PTSD. But anyway I remember Cassie talking about her toxic father, my heart hurt for her, and I can’t help thinking that her weight/career was NOT the sole root of her ED. 😢
Amanda was trash for telling the other girls, period. I understand it’s a competition, but damn, we are all humans and have issues and if we open up to someone in confidence, it’s painful when that person turns around and breaks that “bond”!
@@LlamaLlamaMamaJamaac i wish the best for you and your daughter. i know what it’s like to be in that mental space of wanting to hurt yourself. i had an undiagnosed ED (prob anorexia) back in late 2017-early 2018 when i was 14 and i was so incredibly miserable. funnily enough that when i was at my skinniest i also hated myself the most. also had to deal with my mother’s mistreatment and all of that combined lead me to harming myself. i’m better now but it hurts to know that other people are suffering just like i was; i wouldn’t wish that on anyone
I live in California, where I can drive south for 10 hours and STILL be in California. So, the idea that you can be in England and just randomly decide to take a train to France for the day, and be back at home for dinner, is absolutely amazing to me.
I admit I wish you’d do an antm episode weekly. I love your reacts and there are so many seasons it would take you years at a weekly pace to do them all
If I remember right, at that point in time, ANTM was getting backlash from fans and medical professionals for pushing the Size 0 trend. In response, the show made a point of vilifying any contestant who had an ED. It's so evil. But 🎉 Representation! 🎉
Cover Girl had a ton of billboards and whenever you'd change the channel there is a Cover Girl commercial hints the "Easy Breezy Beautiful Cover Girl" it was their slogan. Plus it was a drug store brand so it was pretty accessible for everyone. I'm pretty sure it was my first make-up
the things that were allowed on this show are insane to me. public outing/bullying of someone's disorder, the level of blatant gaslighting, allowing Janice to act like an expert on anything, the fact that they all sat down to eat in the hallway of the haunted mansion like it was normal, all of it. I would have added having Anand on it but I would hope none of them knew what he was doing.
What unsettled me most about the Amanda / Cassie situation is that Amanda didn't sit the girls down in the apartment to discuss things, she announced Cassie's disorder right before her photo shoot, which feels targeted and strategic.
Amanda’s “I’m a mom” persona was 100% strategic. You can tell by the way she talked about her son she’s actually a very intense person which isn’t a bad thing but it felt like she was actually pretty manipulative and her soft spoken demeanor was part of that.
I always wonder if the "somebody" she told was a member of production and production strategically circulated it for drama. Either way, you keep personal stuff you don't want getting around locked down right on reality shows.
Luxeria, something hilarious happened while I was watching this. At the 15:50 mark where you were talking about shows just doing things for dramatic effect rather than for the purposes of modeling, a commercial kicked in at the right moment. Right when you said, "You're looking for people to go" it immediately cut to a commercial of young girls screaming in fear. 🤣
I appreciate that Lux called out that Amanda won best photo even though she didn’t do well with the in judging makeup challenge. These challenges are not designed, or meant, to have an impact to the competition, it’s just another reason and excuse to tear down or humiliate the girls. The only time the in judging challenge is “relevant” is when the judges use it against a girl that is already in the bottom or if a contestant needs to be “taught a lesson”.
I can't imagine letting someone else have control over my appearance without my input. It sounds shallow but it can be so important to your sense of self and someone messing with that and pushing their ideas onto you is terrifying to me 🙈
I’d be thrilled for this kind of opportunity (as long as it didn’t involve actually being on ANTM 😂)! Letting a team of professionals do whatever they think would look good on me would be so fun. If I didn’t like the new look, it wouldn’t bother me much. However, I also understand how traumatic it could be for some people. Especially young people trying to make it in an appearance based industry in the 00s. I also think some of the makeovers are picked for drama reasons, not actually based on what’s best for the model.
@@myqueerplantfamily Tyra would pick wacky or unflattering hairstyles for this reason, drama. Not because they would actually look good. Like she made up some horse? Hairstyle for a girl once “just because” Also sometimes I’m pretty sure the people doing hair weren’t “professionals”, like the time on antm when a hair stylist tried sewing tracks into a girls head and it looked awful and was super painful for the girl.. It’s mostly a reality tv show so not really surprising
@@KingOfGaymes I remember the contestant who was literally balling as they tried to sew in her hair. The hosts on the show acted like the *contestant* was in the wrong. They were so awful to these young women 😢
Though, if you look at catwalk photos they often don't look glorious, the makeup is sometimes more of expressing an abstract idea than anything. Sometimes they just look kooky.
That yellow is the color you pee when you've taken too many supplements. Poor Ann. Also, "haven't seen the sun in 27 years" made younger me feel so seen! 😂
German is a literally a language where u can make new words from smashing other words together, so keep compounding those words, u stunning woman on the SPIEL. Ohrhängers well and truly POPPED, girls! 💅🏻👁👄👁
"If you walk out of here thinking the photographer chose the wrong picture, you dont grow" what the actual chicken shitlet was that!? They choose the wrong picture on purpose sometimes to make a stupid point and kick someone off. Absolutely ridiculous
Dammit Luxeria. I have an orthodontist appointment this week and now I'm going to be cackling in the chair thinking of the newest house music hit "He's An Orthodontist" 😆 Thank you so much love for another unhinged video!
gotta love how they describe someone as gorgeous as Yaya as if she's disfigured for having mild acne. she's freaking stunning and had nothing that concealer couldn't handle, and like basic editing they would do anyway. they acted like it was this huge dealbreaker for models to have any skin blemish, but they apply professional makeup on everyone (it's very rare a model has to do it themselves in a moving Limo!), edit EVERYONE, always have since the technology was available, and before then there were photography tricks to capture skin in the most flattering light and to make images less sharp. thank you for uploading these with your spot on commentary. I really loved this season, Amanda was a trip lmao. and it has fan favorite Tocarra, and all the drama of the Eva and Ann codependent friendship. I forgot all about that convict they kept sending the models to meet! what a "prize," eek.
As someone who had braces, I feel like maybe Norelle's teeth were straight but there might have been a bite issue that may have taken more time to fix. I could be completely wrong but based on the fact that she said she still had around a year left and that usually, they straighten the teeth first and then use bands to correct the bite I feel like that second phase may be why she had so much time left. Her teeth did look pretty straight so it seems like because it cosmetically looked good enough they may have rushed to get the braces off before the more structural issues were fixed. Again this is just speculation but from my experience, most people who have braces end up getting slight improvements toward their bite and that is usually what extends the time braces are worn. Plus, it would make sense that the show doesn't care that much about that as long as her teeth look straight in her smile.
My overbite was 1.4cm and I had to wear retainers before to fix it, then braces after to straighten my teeth, then a clear retainer for about a year afterwards to stop my teeth moving as the gums are a bit soft from your teeth being forced a certain way, so I think she had to wear a retainer after to retain the placement of her teeth.
I am wearing braces rn at 45 yo. My teeth are perfectly straight looking. But I still need 1,5 more years to fix my overbite, to allign my teeth better and to get jaw surgery to set my jaws straight and then more time to get the subtle details and get them perfectly matching like a puzzle piece inside each other. Also teeth are always moving. So now the girl will later need braces all over again...
I too was supposed to wear my braces for another year or so to make my jaw line up a bit more. - I actually didn’t though because when I asked why if my teeth were straight that I couldn’t get them off they said it was because of minor misalignment. I asked if it mattered and they said it was more for aesthetics so I got them removed in the next appointment. - Honestly I feel like it was the best choice I ever made, but of course it’s not for everyone. At the end of the day I like that it’s a little off.
The best moments are when Lux will say something completely unhinged but then look at the camera like “wth was that?” as if she wasn’t the one who just said it. Iconic 🤣
I wore braces for 2 years. My teeth were straight after 10 weeks the rest of the time was bite correction 😂 ALSO! The orthodontist says wear retainers for 6 months… retainers are a life long thing! After a few months you still have to wear them every night when you go to bed because your teeth will shift. 11 years later I still wear retainers to bed
YUP! I had braces for 2 1/2 years I wore my retainer every day for a year, lost it, figured I was good, and my bottom teeth (which were the worst of it all) shifted back to all crooked and everywhere…
Oh wow, I remember this season with Yaya from when I was a preteen/teen. I struggled with cystic acne and body dysmorphia because of it all throughout my life (still dealing!) and I can see now how this show contributed to it. I remember watching this show as a young girl and feeling horrible about myself when they would have girls with “bad skin” on. It’s weird watching this now and remembering how badly this season effected me at the time mentally. I literally would refuse to go to school because of my acne for years and the only representation acne sufferers got on TV in the early 00s and 10s was being shamed. No wonder I had body dysmorphia! If only I could go hug that teenage me now and tell her acne doesn’t make you less of a person or less beautiful. Yaya is gorgeous and lovely, she should’ve won for sure.
nah, girl, you should have just drunk more water 🙄🙄🙄 honestly i'm beyond even being mad at stupid comments like that, especially from men. I have pcos and have struggled with acne my whole life, and was shamed for it by men in my life like it was my fault and like it was my choices that made me get them. People that don't struggle with things like this think they'll fix all your complex problems with one sentence, like gee, if only i had met you sooner to get your life-changing oneliner advice. /rant And also, hugs to you, both your teenage and current self 👐
As someone who works cameras and edits videos quite frequently, the first thing I notice in every piece of visual media I consume is wrong fps settings - so I really felt it when you pointed it out in this episode's edit! Once you know how to shoot different types of segments you can't unsee it, and you'd be shocked at how many _movies_ do it too! It really shows you how many of these episodes' scenes and transitions were not planned beforehand 😂
Back in the early 2000s Covergirl was one of the "default" brands most younger women used along with like Maybelline, L'oreal, and Revlon. It was definitely the makeup juggernaut back in a time when high end makeup wasn't really a thing for regular people (I'm sure it was similar in the UK, like "pre-Instagram makeup guru" era). They always had A list celebrities in ads and while they didn't have their own magazine, they were a staple in all the young women magazines like Seventeen, Cosmopolitan, Elle Girl, Teen people, etc. We had NYX I think then (def everywhere now), and yes I would absolutely equate it to "in every store" low cost drugstore brand like NYX.
I’ve had my hair super long and then had it cut to my shoulders quite a few times, but the important thing to keep in mind is that it was on my terms when my hair was cut. My hair would be cut when I was ready for it to be cut
As someone who's lost a lot of hair this last year due to trauma and thyroid issues, I can tell you that hair is absolutely important! I have two really big bald spots and I can't even put it back in any way without showing them. I've gotten to where I hate looking at it in the mirror, and hate looking at old pictures of how pretty it was. It's upsetting. I know it's not the same as simply getting a haircut or getting it colored but don't take it for granted! Ha I don't even know if it's going to grow back like it used to.
I have autoimmune hair loss and I lost 70% of my hair at a young age. I’m there with you, it sucks but it does get easier and you learn that you are beautiful no matter what happens to your hair. We’re in this together and I’m sending good thoughts that your hair will recover and grow back.
When I was on chemo, brushing it seemed the most dangerous time to lose it. I got an undercut of the lower part of the back so i could pull it up and show that but wear it down and still have hair. It got thicker because I had to maintain it less
Designer help here! To control the stretchy fabric, I would put some tracing paper UNDER the thing you want to sew on your machine (sow? I'm not native English 😅), and then pin it on to the tracing paper. Then its the tracing paper who decides the movement and not the fabric. After you're done sowing (sewing??) you just pull off the tracing paper (without tucking too much in the stitches). Good luck hun!
It may surprise you to know that you can just go to a orthodontist and get your braces removed anytime. You have to pay them but you absolutely can. About 7 years ago I was in the middle of a treatment and fired my first orthodontist because I wasn't happy with the care I was getting. I went to a second orthodontist and he popped off the first brackets gave me a retainer for two weeks to let my enamel heal then put their set on and continued my treatment.
Yup, they do this for the military (In the USA at least) because you can't have braces for basic training. They take them off and then once you finish training they put them back on.
@@joshuastephens-fz5ob Not on it's own, you have to a have proper diet and use some stuff with fluoride to help it restore. I'm not sure how only 2 weeks of just wearing retainers were supposed to help in restoring it, it's a longer process.
just discovered you. you're bloody brilliant... my son thinks Im losing it as Im watching with headphones and cracking up spontaneously.. love your work xx
Yeah Covergirl is everywhere. I also adore Yaya. Also, I know others have Saud and I agree your editing is unparalleled. You edit everything together so seamlessly. I admire your editing work Like so much. Your content is so much better for it. The make out episodes are always so unhinged 😂
Cassie:”Don’t tell anyone, I don’t want people going on about it” Amanda: “why did she tell me if she didn’t want everyone to know” What the actual fuck
I love how often the twilight Bella "nO" is used in your videos 😂 it's one of my favorite clips to use for questioning if people know how things work I guess Tyra and the stylists only ever see yellow snow and that's why they think of "icy" as yellow? My mom was a hairdresser, and I get so judgy about crappy dye jobs lol
Luxeria’s edits always make me laugh, but the “that’s the brassiest lift I’ve ever seen” followed by that “How dare you! clip of the brass elevator absolutely floored me 🤣
Unrelated to Americas Next Top GOUT girls… thank you for being a creator. I recently found your Chanel, and have been binging it. You’re so entertaining and the amount of laughing is giving me gout, but also brightens my day! Just a big thank you, Luxeria!
I would like to hear from Amanda why she didn't go to the crew first. I wouldnt be surprised if they didn't have great health and safety and they almost definitely didn't have counselors. I remember from the previous season that one girl (sorry i don't remember names) who cheated mentioned how surprised she was when the crew actually showed empathy and helped her in that moment so I'm sure most crew members are told not to talk to the cast so maybe amanda felt like she couldn't reach out to them?
I was totally about to go into a rant about why you shouldn’t donate to Locks of Love, but partway through I stopped and googled to make sure the information I had was accurate. After reading a snopes article about how the information I had was a combination of wildly exaggerated or plain wrong, I’m glad I double checked!
I know this is an old comment, but I wanted to say a genuine good for you for double checking your info before putting it out there. In a world where fact is a matter of opinion, it's nice to see someone say "I wanted to make sure this was true before I said it".
How they talked about Kelle not having much makeup, the first thing that came to my mind was the fact that, she probably wanted to wear makeup BUT especially back then it would be insanely hard to even find a foundation that would colour match her skin because they weren't making things she could use. I am glad foundation ranges cover a lot more skin tones now than before.
You're beautiful no matter what Lux, but i fully understand the feeling of equating weight to your self worth. Just know we all watch for your hilarious personality and your stunning looks are a bonus 🥰
I find it really healing to hear your takes on the size 0 epidemic of the early 2000s. It is something that still affects me very deeply. My body is one that is prone to weight gain for various reasons. My body is also a body that will never have a flat stomach. I’ve been 100 lbs and I’ve been 160 lbs and either way, I’m not the beauty standard of the time. I’m very thankful that you can express the way you feel about that so eloquently in a way that’s also very comforting to any of us who still feel that way
I've been binging your ANTM reactions these past few days. Thanks to you, I can finally see the American version - and your commentary makes them also a lot more bearable, haha. I'm used to the German version and in it, we still get (sometimes drastic) makeovers that will make at least one girl cry. The difference is that the contestants don't even get told what will be done and there are no mirrors, so they have to trust Heidi and only get to see the result at the end. In the current season, one of the girls even quit the show, because she couldn't handle the possibility of her hair getting cut shorter!
The funny thing about Kelly is she is 100% right they choose the wrong photo for panel. If you got back to the photoshoot scene while they are shooting Kelly, they cut to the monitor with Mr.J and you can see the film and see she had much better photos. So for the judges to get mad at her at panel is non sense. Im surprised they left that clip in due to how obvious it was they were not picking a good photo of Kelly.
Love your channel, recently found you and have been watching nothing but your ANTM reactions. I remember watching the show in my early 20’s and how different my view was then. How times change, and we do. Off to watch more! ❤
It drives my batty when there's someone who struggles with their skin and someone's like "You should drink more water", or "You should wash your face." Golly jee if only I had thought about that. Ugh. Growing I had the worst cystic acne. It was soooo painful. Spent a ton of time at a dermatologist's office getting poked and prodded. Took medications to try and help...you name it. As an adult it is gone, but oy. 😢
The judging room is down stairs of a brownstone. I've seen an interview with a later contestant and she explained that not only were they down stairs but they had to wait in a small room off to the side whilst they judged
Oh! I’m a sewer! Your fabric looks kinda tricky but it will just take practice to work with it. First, it will help to use a stretch or ball needle. Also make sure the fabric isn’t stretching as it is being sewn. Sometimes it helps to use a walking foot for this but I find them kinda cumbersome myself. Also if the beginning an ends of your fabric are getting sucked into the sewing machine it helps to put a piece of paper underneath. Then you rip it out later! I sew a lot but I still struggle with this kind of fabric sometimes so don’t get discouraged! Good luck and I love your channel!
My grandfather is dying and this is the first opportunity I've gotten in days to watch some RUclips. I'm so excited for this video. Love you Luxeria! Thank you for being there for me (in a weird parasocial way).
damn, watching this back, as an adult in my 30s who grew up watching ANTM religiously, I'm horrified by the way these girls were treated by everyone involved. So many of my own issues with body image and weight were seriously perpetuated by this show. We deserved better.
I watched this in my early 30s too and saw nothing wrong with the harsh criticisms etc at the time thinking well this is the real world of toxic sexism they are preparing the girls for because I was "recovering" from being a teenager in the 80s which being treated like meat was very typical but now i get SO angry that instead of calling it out and trying to change things from their fairly huge platform they end up perpetuating and enforcing that horrendous culture and treatment of women. Tyra came from that universe too the suck it up and toughen up sweetheart world so maybe she thought she was honestly helping. Crazy. I love this evolution where now millenials are saying this is 100% unacceptable, the children they are evolving and its wonderful
Just to remind you Lux (I forgot about this myself until I happened to see it again) - Cassie is the girl who came back from the Jamaica bikini shoot and got told by Janice Dinkinson at the first judge's panel in New York, "You look about two months pregnant in this picture". That is the context of Cassie being concerned about her weight. The screen text saying that Cassie said, "I don't want to be disqualified because like I have an eating disorder". *NOT WHAT SHE SAID* in the moment. I listened to that several times to be sure, both here and on another channel just to make sure that your Orhänge eating themselves hadn't floofed up the sound. I still heard it differently. She said "I don't want to be disqualified because people THINK I have an eating disorder", or possibly "because people think like I have an eating disorder". It's interesting that they might possibly have incorrectly subtitled her. It's possible I'm mishearing it, but... that's strange. Why be untruthful about that, when they show us full-on how awful they are in other ways?
Hey Lux, Covergirl is a big makeup brand in the US available in nearly every drug and department store across the country! It isn’t as popular a brand anymore, but at the time this aired, Covergirl had ad campaigns with commercials and magazine spreads consistently. They tend to focus on more of a “clean/natural girl” aesthetic. You can think of it like a less universally successful version of Maybelline. 😊
If you have a slippery fabric then make sure to use a non-stick foot on your sewing machine. Also, you can put a tissue paper on top of the fabric while sewing. You may also need to adjust the tension. You can take a scrap of fabric and put a piece of tissue(like the type used for wrapping presents) over the fabric and try sewing and adjusting the tension each time until it seems to work.
The clear tape used to gift wrap or whatever is also excellent to put on the bottom of a foot to make it smooth. (Just tab the tape for ease of removal when you're done!) Other generally helpful things with shiny fabrics: 1. Consider lowering the feed dogs if they're part of the struggle. 2. OMG YES to the thread tension adjustment. I know my machine's manual has suggested settings per fabric type. Maybe yours does too?? 3. There are different needles that work more nicely with specific fabrics, and that could be helpful for your specific fabric. Also, don't be like me and forget to change the machine's needle out after you use it a ton... TURNS OUT those f*&%ers can damage fabric, machine, and/or your cornea. (Buying extra machine needles is way cheaper than treating a corneal laceration here in the USA. Buy the extra needles.)
Additional advice, you may need a stretch fabric needle, the end of the needle will be rounded so that it slips through the stretchy fibers instead of catching and tearing them!
As someone who has both worn braces for years and has had my hair chopped from waist to literally cropped to my head, and who also has had terrible skin my whole life, I feel like I have some insight for once 🤣 I was born with chronic eczema and hearing them talk about skin being beautiful and clear and natural is always a sore spot for me. I have it all over my body but my face is where I'm very self conscious. Makeup only irritates it too so covering it up just isn't an option when it's at its worst. I've always known that I'd never see someone with my skin on a programme like ANTM, and I don't think there ever has been? So I relate to Yaya a great deal in that regard. Its great seeing so much variety in modelling these days, but I'd really love to see someone with eczema modelling someday. It would mean a lot. My little kid self would have been amazed at that. Absolutely even when you've consented to getting your hair cut there's always an "I'm gonna regret this this is awful I'm gonna regret it" moment as it's getting chopped. Everyone who was in the hairdresser's with me told me not to do it, that my hair was long and beautiful and I was making a mistake and I shouldn't do it, but I ploughed through and I haven't grown my hair back since I love it that much. Everyone ever since has told me that I really suit my hair super short. It seems that the natural reaction to seeing long hair being cut is "DONT DO IT!" but once it's done it can and does look good, like in my case. I also donated the cut hair to The Little Princess Trust. As for the braces, the fact they just decided to take them out randomly is so bizarre and not how it's supposed to be done. You're put on a plan for a certain amount of time depending on how your teeth looked beforehand and how long it would take for them to be straightened out. Just taking them out halfway through doesn't sound at all responsible. Yeah, the orthodontist told her she has to wear a retainer to keep them straight, which is true, but her teeth can't look the way her own orthodontist intended if the braces were taken out early. So she's basically worn them as long as she has just to get them taken off and have the job unfinished. I want to say that maybe the production team contacted her orthodontist for advice and permission buuuuut I don't give them that much credit and don't believe they did.
Just imagine how expensive it must've been to get braces and then risk by having them taken off early and having them moving back to shit place after some time because the plan was disrupted. 😨😱
My poor poor mentality for weight gain was so made so toxic by this era as well. I was very slim a few years ago and had been for a while, though I had weight issues before, and was put on medication (beta blockers, anti-depressiants, anti-anxieties) and it cause a 40 lbs weight gain. It sucks that I feel that I have failed myself even though I was taking a step to get to a better place mentally when I was so low before.
This whole skin shaming, as someone who’s suffered with acne for basically 30 years (and has done EVERYTHING under the sun to different variations of failure), is profoundly unsettling. And yes, doors are closed on your face because you don’t have healthy skin, and yes, people tell you to drink more water… Janice screaming in delighted sadism when they showed the untouched photos was… disturbing. Tha woman has problems, she’s always in competition with every tall skinny young woman in the world.
Hi Luxeria! I just recently found your channel and I'm so so so so obsessed! I absolutely love your personality, your editing, the topics you cover, your sense of humor, the accent on America's Next Top Scandal Girls! (already lives in my head rent free) and you are absolutely breathtaking! I love your style, the ice blonde hair, your beautiful eyes, the white liquid liner, wooooh girl. I'm living for the little binoculars too. You're amazing
Omg about the weight gain thing! I was RAIL thin until I hit 23 and filled out. I'm 5'4 so you can see a 5-10 pound difference on my frame very easily. When I went for 110 to 120 I though omg everyone's gonna think I'm so huge until I got out of the head frame that you can actually have good body fat as a woman lol. It seems so silly but it's so impactful going up with these shows
I’m just discovering your fabulous shan-nell (Luxeria voice)… but, I had braces as an adult for 3 years and had to wear a retainer (top and bottom) for a 1 year. That’s how you keep your teeth from shifting after braces… totally normal.
"I don't like that Julie is using the modelling world to get somewhere else." Says Tyra...on her television show that uses the modelling world as a backdrop for a gameshow.
not to mention, how dare she have different ambitions other than modeling🙄
Tyra literally used her modelling career to become a reality competition host, then a talk show host, then did another competition show, whatever the hell “Modelland” was, and that time she made a whole freaking MLM! And I know I’m missing a bunch that ISNT MODELLING 😤
The hypocrisy was astronomical. Tyra literally used the show as a vehicle to daytime tv and a music career attempt

I love how the person who gets the most flattering haircuts and dye jobs always goes "omg why is everyone so upset IT'S JUST HAIR"

exactly...i remember years ago i told my kids mom who had long curly natural blonde hair to stop cutting her hair because of her diseases and her issues after giving brith she told me im just "jealous" she was a diehard tyra banks fan for years
she kept cutting short cause of people like tyra which due to her illnesses she has causes her hair to thin out each hair cut she gets she now her hair wont grow after years of getting it professionally done...despite she was warned she has small spots in her head now
tyra is being extremely abusive sorry...its all about her breaking these women's will not about actual modeling
@@lunachopin69420 it was her doctor not me I actually said that in the previous post
The way amanda says "He was conceived to the hour of September 11th" is still the funniest shit I've ever heard
I screamed. Like was she watching the shit on TV at the same time?!
It's weird. Like did that shit get her in the mood or what lol.

My daughter had super long hair yrs ago, she had over a foot cut off and we were going to donate it to locks of love, until I found out they charge the families for the hair.. it’s not free for the children with cancer at all. What was the name of the actually *good* charity?
I've donatedso much hair to them tf ugh
What?? I've been growing my hair to send to locks of love... Please name the other charity? Thank you ❤

All models would get blemishes at sometimes. Thus the use of make up and retouching on shoots.
SUCH a good point
Right?? Ridiculous
The fact that Amanda’s kid is now a grown adult is absolutely mind blowing.
Well it kinda makes sense. 2003 was 20 years ago!!! Wow that was wild to type 😂 I’m 28 and remember this episode

It's a good quality brand that's affordable for everyone.
she's damned good in it too. I didn't even remember her being on this show, but I definitely took notice of her in Chicago Med.
Wait, she is? I watch Chicago med and have never noticed it was her! What season?

Yaya had such a calm inner dignity her not winning was so wrong. Glad she is thriving in her career.
@@mokaakashiya9318 She was there from the first season. She's one of the ER nurses, April Sexton.
Insufferable.
Amanda was crying to her mom because she didn't like that she was now seen as an untrustworthy, NOT because she felt remorse for having broken the confidence. She was crying for HERSELF
yeah when she put on that baby voice i had rage
The "he was conceived to the hour on 9/11" took me out. Was expecting that, what a wild thing to say! She definitely brags about it
I have so many questions. Which hour, did she figure this out in retrospect or was she watching the towers burn while getting freaky, and WHY is that something she felt the need to mention?
@@caseyd9471I can only figure she messed up and meant he was born on 9/11 to the hour
The naughties where indeed such a time to be alive!😉😂

Same. These are my favourite to break down with Luxeria. ANTM was so toxic.
If I remember right, at that point in time, ANTM was getting backlash from fans and medical professionals for pushing the Size 0 trend. In response, the show made a point of vilifying any contestant who had an ED. It's so evil. But 🎉 Representation! 🎉

Producers of 2000's: "Let's mask our failures as a society with public shaming for anyone who might exist imperfectly!"
sad & pathetic😒
the things that were allowed on this show are insane to me. public outing/bullying of someone's disorder, the level of blatant gaslighting, allowing Janice to act like an expert on anything, the fact that they all sat down to eat in the hallway of the haunted mansion like it was normal, all of it. I would have added having Anand on it but I would hope none of them knew what he was doing.
@Luxeria Your disgusted grimace when they brought out their fashion guy Anand, was EVERYTHING 😭🤣
According to the live, Cassie had already been saying this to some of the girls in Jamaica weeks prior.
@@ranga1cat turns out she wasn't and she was genuine. She just had an off moment and made a ill informed decision.

Hairstyle for a girl once “just because”

Also she will need to buy a new set if braces after this which is pretty expensive...
And how about parental consent? Or are they 18 yet?
I too was supposed to wear my braces for another year or so to make my jaw line up a bit more.
-
I actually didn’t though because when I asked why if my teeth were straight that I couldn’t get them off they said it was because of minor misalignment. I asked if it mattered and they said it was more for aesthetics so I got them removed in the next appointment.
-
Honestly I feel like it was the best choice I ever made, but of course it’s not for everyone.
At the end of the day I like that it’s a little off.
The best moments are when Lux will say something completely unhinged but then look at the camera like “wth was that?” as if she wasn’t the one who just said it. Iconic 🤣
Was the gout demon from within lashin-gout👀✨
I wore braces for 2 years. My teeth were straight after 10 weeks the rest of the time was bite correction 😂
ALSO!
/rant
And also, hugs to you, both your teenage and current self 👐
Oh man, I second the thyroid hair loss. It is has been and still is a struggle to accept.
I have autoimmune hair loss and I lost 70% of my hair at a young age. I’m there with you, it sucks but it does get easier and you learn that you are beautiful no matter what happens to your hair. We’re in this together and I’m sending good thoughts that your hair will recover and grow back.
I have an autoimmune disease as well. It's disheartening to lose tons of hair in the shower. It feels like I look at a hairbrush and hair falls out. 😓
When I was on chemo, brushing it seemed the most dangerous time to lose it. I got an undercut of the lower part of the back so i could pull it up and show that but wear it down and still have hair.
It got thicker because I had to maintain it less
@@carsensikyta9421 thank you so much 🙂
This is exactly what I needed today, can't wait to see how hateful these makeovers are! Love you Lux 💜
It's sewing, you were right the first time ❤
Sow is a female pig.
Sew is correct..you speak English REALLY well for not being a native speaker!!!💕
@@lexbel8394 aww thank you! ❤️❤️
I know this is old, but sow is also a word but it’s a type of pig
Nothing like a SCANDAL GIRLS on a Monday!

The “brassiest lift” hOw dAre yOu! Made me cackle 😂😂❤
😂😂😂😂Same, tho.
Thankyou for sharing, I had no idea!
Yup, they do this for the military (In the USA at least) because you can't have braces for basic training. They take them off and then once you finish training they put them back on.
Enamel can heal??
@@joshuastephens-fz5ob yes as long as the dentin/root isn’t destroyed
@@joshuastephens-fz5ob Not on it's own, you have to a have proper diet and use some stuff with fluoride to help it restore. I'm not sure how only 2 weeks of just wearing retainers were supposed to help in restoring it, it's a longer process.
Jennice has probably never seen her own unretouched photos or she'd have a heart attack 😂😂😂
So true, it’s so very weird to tell someone to embrace their heritage when they haven’t even brought the subject up themselves or asked your opinion.
just discovered you. you're bloody brilliant... my son thinks Im losing it as Im watching with headphones and cracking up spontaneously.. love your work xx
Yeah Covergirl is everywhere. I also adore Yaya. Also, I know others have Saud and I agree your editing is unparalleled. You edit everything together so seamlessly. I admire your editing work Like so much. Your content is so much better for it. The make out episodes are always so unhinged 😂
Lux is sooooo good at pacing, it puts me to shame
When Luxeria says “passion” in reference to Adrienne lmfaoooo it was so subtle and that made it even more funnier.
"He was conceived to the hour on September 11th."
Weird flex, but okay...
My hair is past my hips and no one will cut it except me. There’s no need to cut her hair it took me 18 years to get this hair length and I love it
especially since she could have literally been eliminated this episode. I would have freaked out, I'm super protective of my long hair too.
You have a mullet?
Cassie:”Don’t tell anyone, I don’t want people going on about it”
Amanda: “why did she tell me if she didn’t want everyone to know”
What the actual fuck
I love how often the twilight Bella "nO" is used in your videos 😂 it's one of my favorite clips to use for questioning if people know how things work
I guess Tyra and the stylists only ever see yellow snow and that's why they think of "icy" as yellow? My mom was a hairdresser, and I get so judgy about crappy dye jobs lol
Luxeria’s edits always make me laugh, but the “that’s the brassiest lift I’ve ever seen” followed by that “How dare you! clip of the brass elevator absolutely floored me 🤣
Unrelated to Americas Next Top GOUT girls… thank you for being a creator. I recently found your Chanel, and have been binging it. You’re so entertaining and the amount of laughing is giving me gout, but also brightens my day! Just a big thank you, Luxeria!
As a hairstylist I'm just gagging. How did this make it on TV.
I had super long hair and cut it to my shoulder then gave myself a buzz cut. It was so refreshing and amazing. Growing it out……that’s another story
My health is not cooperating today, but this video made me feel better. Thank you!
Brighter days are ahead friend 🖤
Sending a virtual hug, I can empathize 💜💜💜
I was totally about to go into a rant about why you shouldn’t donate to Locks of Love, but partway through I stopped and googled to make sure the information I had was accurate. After reading a snopes article about how the information I had was a combination of wildly exaggerated or plain wrong, I’m glad I double checked!
I know this is an old comment, but I wanted to say a genuine good for you for double checking your info before putting it out there. In a world where fact is a matter of opinion, it's nice to see someone say "I wanted to make sure this was true before I said it".
Your reaction to Amanda's comment about her son's conception had me laughing. Always thought it was such an odd thing to say too
How they talked about Kelle not having much makeup, the first thing that came to my mind was the fact that, she probably wanted to wear makeup BUT especially back then it would be insanely hard to even find a foundation that would colour match her skin because they weren't making things she could use.
Wait, current? It's still running in Germany? That's interesting.
@@hind__ Yep, we're on season 18! It's been running every year since 2006.
Wow, Heidi has been very busy with reality tv then. I like Project Runway a lot. 😊
@@maaretrahkonen7706 Yeah, she must really like reality tv.
Just came out of my 4.5 hour neuroanatomy exam, need something to wind me down before another one tomorrow 😭 perfect timing Lux ❤
As a note: you look fantastic always, weight or no weight gain, I don’t think you need to worry about success.
Ahh that was my comment!!! I legit screamed 😭Tyra fakes them out so much! Your videos bring me so much joy, that absolutely made my day!!
LISA GIRLS!
I agree it's completely unfair to change an expression on a final photo and then critisize the contestant about it.
Just found your channel yesterday, I'm obsessed. I've found my new favorite youtuber 😍😍😍
Right?! I never drank fizzy drinks/sodas as a kid/teen. Was always into water and tea. So when folks said "drink water" I'm like 💀💀💀
@@BeepBoopWordsWordsThis comes from the turds who never dealt with any sort of acne on a regular basis that wasn't an occasional bump.
I can’t help but wonder if Amanda did say something to production but they told her to tell the girls about Cassie because it would create tension…
damn, watching this back, as an adult in my 30s who grew up watching ANTM religiously, I'm horrified by the way these girls were treated by everyone involved.
(Just tab the tape for ease of removal when you're done!)
Other generally helpful things with shiny fabrics:
Amanda just blamed Cassie for Amanda being a snake and tell everyone what she's struggling with, the audacity of that woman
the eyeshadow sponges that come with pallets are amazing for applying shimmer. Also category is sims 2 realness.
As someone who has both worn braces for years and has had my hair chopped from waist to literally cropped to my head, and who also has had terrible skin my whole life, I feel like I have some insight for once 🤣
I was born with chronic eczema and hearing them talk about skin being beautiful and clear and natural is always a sore spot for me.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and edit these videos. They really make my day.❤
My poor poor mentality for weight gain was so made so toxic by this era as well.
Now at 37 years, re-watching the shows I grew up watching I am starting to grok WHY I grew up with body dysmorphia and eating disorders...
This whole skin shaming, as someone who’s suffered with acne for basically 30 years (and has done EVERYTHING under the sun to different variations of failure), is profoundly unsettling. And yes, doors are closed on your face because you don’t have healthy skin, and yes, people tell you to drink more water…
Janice screaming in delighted sadism when they showed the untouched photos was… disturbing.
