I’ve only seen one 1966 Studebaker. I was a kid, living in University City, [ St.Louis County], Missouri. A couple of neighborhoods away, towards the “LOOP” area, there was a house that had a new Studebaker every year. I was REALLY young, but I still remember. And I remember the ‘66 grill. I never forgot it. A few years later, another kid who was into cars , pointed out a Studebaker in the parking lot, told me that that was the last ones they made because they quit in 1964. I knew he wasn’t right, and we argued. Finally I just agreed with him - though I knew better. I don’t know why, but I’ve always liked Studebaker cars, and the 4x4 Transtar that was another one I saw when I was a young kid. This wagonaire is beautiful. 🚗🙂
What an awesome ride! I grew up with several Studebakers in my family, and they are in my blood. The sliding wagon would top on my list if I were to start collecting them.
In 1972 I almost bought 1 of those it was aqua green with sky blue interior, I ended up getting out bided by $50! & The owned didn't let me put another bid.
They didn't source the Drive train from GM. Everything about the car is Studebaker including the frame. It used a GM engine and a BorgWarner Transmission (same as Ford and AMC). Only the Engine is GM....it's incorrect of this owner to claim the drive train is entirely GM. Totally false.
@@seed_drill7135 yes all the transmissions were Borg Warner. Because Studebaker set automatics paired with V-8's to second gear start that makes some confusion today as people think they're GM power glides. The bit about checker is just myth.
Outside the all metal wagon, the Wagonaire is the greatest wagon design of the 20th Century

Studebakers foundry was not closed in December of 1963, It was kept going into 1964 to fulfill orders for Canadian and South Bend truck production.
and then all production was handled by the Ontario plant after the South Bend one shut down.

Engines were GM transmissions were Studebaker and the foundry in South Bend closed in May of 1964
I think the automatic was Borg Warner. They had to buy some part from Checker to make it work.
