i would love to see a video on primal repression. i also think wilhelm reich would be a great door opener for it as well. reich may have had some ideas that seem far fetched, but the fact that the u.s. government censored him is i think an example of repression in action. the u.s. is very repressed in many different ways (even sexually), and reich's description of the contrast between the "schizoid" (a catch all phrase) and "homo normalis" as described in his book "character analysis" seems very relevant to this topic. in fact, much of reich's experiences with other people show how so many others' own insecurities surfaced in response to the things he said.
Would love a dedicated talk on primal repression. It has always puzzled me in the way that looking for origins ie, explaining the first time a memory or thought is repressed, can be theorised. If it is a pre-verbal event, as I think it must be, it is inexplicable in the same way that the 'big bang' as the moment that inaugurates the beginning of the ever-expanding universe is a strain on logic. Paul Verhaeghe, rather than primal repression, talks about primal fixation. This would have to be a memory that - is the exception to the rule as a drive that is negated as a memory without representation - that is 'left behind' rather than 'pushed away'. Would be really interested on your view of primal repression as such. Richard Reynolds
I am amazed by the unthinkable quality of your work. The mastery you express in delivering a such crystal clear information about a topic so riddle-filled as the Lacanian work is worth of the higest praise.
I can’t get enough of your clear and erudite explanations of both Freud and Lacan and the meanings of the terms used by them in psychoanalysis. The what. The how. The why! Thank you!
I just want to say thank you so much for your efforts. I personally love the content and i'd love to see more! The world needs more precious and formative videos like this!
Every time I think I understand Lacan to any extent I watch one of your videos and realize how much deeper the rabbit hole goes. Thanks for putting these out!
An excellent introduction, both melodically and harmonically, to psychoanalysis, and especially Lacanian analysis. Congratulations, incredible work! Looking forward to watching more...
Extraordinary. As a clinician and a student, your work is invaluable. Embarrassed to say that I had not even began to understand the role of negation until now-negation, it seems, is the juncture of the imaginary and the symbolic? The conditions of the possibility of signifying representations?
Really good video. This is a very difficult task, to explore lacanian psychoanalysis this deeply with video language. Keep up the work! Cheers from a brazilian psychoanalyst.
I really like this series, and the rest of your videos. Your channel is informative and insightful and explicating. A video on primal repression would be ideal!
Concise and down to the point! Please continue explaining where the rabbit hole will take us. I would love to see more videos on primal repression. Thank you very much
at 10:35, just algebraically, what is going there? How do you get from the pair on the right to the S2/S1/S1/x? Is the right supposed to be (S1/s) / (S2/S1), as opposed to *? I get what is happening on the left, but how does it become what's on the right?
Thank you very much! Of course I want to learn about the Primal Repression particularly regarding to the complex relations of it to the Real and to the drive.
Primal repression is perhaps a semantic problem in that something happens but isn't symbolised, so can't move into consciousness, it's left behind, or is fixated rather than repressed. Primal fixation.
Great stuff but at some point I got lost. Could you include more clinical or everyday examples of how these phenomena might manifest in life or on the couch.
Hey there, I've got a question concerning Lacan's theory. It's kind of a general, but for my understanding, crucial point: What exactly is the difference between desire and enjoyment? Are these two interlinked? Do they overlap? And what is their relationship to drive? Thanks in advance! @LacanOnline
