    I have two real world observations that actually tie in with this video. This first is Cap's comment on how there is a function where you can randomize wear and tear on an airframe to give DCS more realism. This also applies to radars. Before I go into this I have to explain I was an avionics guy but not a radar guy. The radar guys were also avionics so we always got lumped together and hung out during work hours. This is my understanding of things based on conversations with them including asking about the system while standing next to the aircraft with the access door opened and looking at it. Back in the day there were several computers that made up the aircraft radar package and part of how they would communicate with each other was waveguides. The raw signal was sent between computers this way and they were somewhat fragile. Think flexible oval tube made of something slightly more thick than aluminum foil. All of this to say radar performance varied from jet to jet and how well the computers in the package "talked" to each other. To illustrate this I remember being temporary duty for two weeks (Vegas I think) and the radar guy were having a horrible time, to the point that they were not sure they would have enough part to support the mission for the second week. The decision was made to put all the "bad" parts in one jet and send it back to our base in New Mexico while they sent an placement jet in return. When the jet with "bad" parts arrived the pilot threatened to do vile things to anyone who touched that radar because it was working great, and signed any discrepancies as FMC. All this to say there is an annoyingly subjective component to radar where the performance can vary jet to jet. This leads me to my second story.
    We had a flight either 4 or 6 fighters that was going up against another flight of 4 or 6 that was from another base but they were meeting over the range for air combat practice much in the same way GR and KIAP were meeting in this video. Whelp, one of our jets had a radar that was working exceptionally well and he detected the enemy force at nearly 100 miles out. They quickly worked out a plan where they guy with the good radar would hang back and give directions to his buddies who went in with radar off and used heaters to bring down the baddies and it worked pretty well. While watching this I kept thinking GR needed the guy with the exceptional radar. Could DCS add the radar variable? Would it make a difference in an environment without AWACS?

    • @TheRocketdrive
      @TheRocketdrive 2 года назад

      terrible idea to randomize radar range as now you win by getting RNGesused the god eye. meanwhile if your opponent gets it but you dont suddenly you got cheated by RNGesus and theres nothing you could have done to even know the other guy has more range

  • @MikooBo.
    @MikooBo. 3 года назад +1

    Really did enjoy this one. I know it sounds like a lot of editing work, but for the next one of these do you think it's possible to splice some tac-view footage of the "highlights" or "key moments" if/when they arise. I feel like that would be the only thing to make this even more awesome than it was.

    Really enjoying the competition watch alongs! Definitely a cool esport.
    Side question: how many AIM9s can the A-10 carry? Wonder if between that and the GAU it would be as/more effective in the F16 role in this competition?

    • @MultiVeeta
      @MultiVeeta 3 года назад

      Just no, an A10 is a sitting duck, no radar to build a picture and you just take the fight vertical to out maneuver it.

    • @mikejulien2330
      @mikejulien2330 3 года назад

      @@MultiVeeta fair enough, I haven’t played DCS so wouldn’t know. But if the point of the F-16s is not to use radar and sneak up for a close in kill in this specific tournament, seems like those wouldn’t really be problems…
      Plus from my understanding it had good endurance so like the flankers, could basically fly around the bubble to sneak up from behind and your SA would come from Comms with team mates. Didn’t seem like there were many people having enough time to get into a prolonged rate fight that would give them the edge by going vertical, and the dissimilar air frames might give you an advantage if the other team wasn’t expecting it and isn’t used to fighting A-10s close in.
      Like I said I’m no expert by any means and could very well be way off, just seems like it could be an interesting option for this specific set of rules.

    • @MultiVeeta
      @MultiVeeta 3 года назад

      @@mikejulien2330 lack of speed to keep up with the fight being a big issue for a start, no support or pressure from radar locks and launches being applied basically makes the opponent have an advantage in numbers and pressure. Fight would be over before A10 reached it, then to skirt the bubble is adding even more time to a weighted fight. This would leave the A10 on its own against the remaining, the thought that an A10 could compete against competent players is a non starter. It may be able to defeat missiles by notching and flares but attacks from different aircraft at different angles would end his day and make him realise he should have taken the far more capable Viper.

    Nice engagement and video, well done! I was surprised by your guest claim that the Mirage FM is off though, they modeled it with telemetry and full access to the French Ada, real pilots validated it and from Mirage III to Rafales, they ve always built outstanding dogfighters. Didnt see anything on the ED forum as well regarding the M2k FM. Whereas Su27s and 33s actually have a fantasy Flight Model in DCS due to classified restrictions and the F16 in ED own words is still a work in progress for the FM.

    • @MultiVeeta
      @MultiVeeta 3 года назад

      What are you on about there are plenty of charts and documents on Flankers. The DCS Flanker flight model is more advanced than the DCS Mirage.

    • @SFDPSFDP
      @SFDPSFDP 3 года назад

      @@MultiVeeta Well if that was the case we would have a high fidelity module of the Su27, besides there are plenty of charts of documents about the Mirage too, the difference is the devs had access to telemetric datas which makes it a lot more accurate than basing a FM on books about an aircraft that is classified by the Russian Gov.
      If you want hard facts about the Mirage, look at what the Greek pilots who trained vs F16s or Indian pilots who have Russian planes and Mirages, or you can check what the Egyptians pilots said about its exceptional manoeuvrability too, they also fly different aircrafts besides the Mirage so they can compare first hand.
      If you see any flaw in the Mirage FM, why not report it with hard facts on the ED / Razbam forum, there are no complaints about the FM, AFAIK on that forum, what do you base your criticism of its FM on? You flew the Mirage? Because the people who helped Razbam actually did for a living. Where the Mirage has issues is the Damage model and the radar but an important update that will address it is expected before the end of the year.

    • @MultiVeeta
      @MultiVeeta 3 года назад

      @@SFDPSFDP get off your soap box. I never said anything bad about the Mirage just that the Su27 FM is superior.
      The reason it is not full fidelity is because of classified avionics of later variants and the Russian governments threats of using any available source such as the freely available aircraft manuals of older variants, such as in DCS, to replicate these avionics, nothing to do with FM being secret. The Mirage has EFM the Su27 uses PFM which has much tighter expectations and broader detail than what EFM expectations are.
      ED could not of made PFM without having actual fly out charts, fuel and hydraulic weights/motions etc. and fluid system blueprints etc. This is all freely available

    • @SFDPSFDP
      @SFDPSFDP 3 года назад

      @@MultiVeeta Come on the guy in the video claims it is an UFO which is an extreme exaggeration, he has absolutely no idea of what a Mirage can and cannot do , never flown it, is not a professional pilot, has not worked on the project and has basically no clue nor any technical argument to back it up.
      As for the Su-27 it is not just the electronics and sub systems that are classified AFAIK, but you seem to have a deep insider knowledge of what info ED had or else you are speculating to defend your statement but in any case it is certain to me that they do not have all the datas to model it, at least less data than Razbam had to model the Mirage and besides airplanes necessarily will be fantasy in a DCS sim with limited parameters when such performance planes are flown beyond or near their envelope limits. However i trust the ones modeled with telemetry and cooperation with the airforce and trustable and competent sources, professional pilots a lot more than a random virtual gamer bashing the plane for subjective reasons.
