Motivation is actually quite different from discipline and shouldnt be underestimated or disregarded as a tool to get people to do what they want to do. Neurochemically, motivation to pursue a reward is governed by dopamine. When you pursue something in anticipation for a great reward only to find out the reward wasnt as great as you thought it would be, your dopamine baseline lowers, i.e. you are LESS motivated to pursue not only that reward but any reward in general. So for example, what is actually happening neurochemically to someone who really cant get off the couch to go exercise, despite always giving themselves an internal pep talk, who instead just finds themselves scrolling through YT or Tiktok vids not being able to pursue the things they WANT to pursue? What is happening is that they are doing very minimal work by scrolling trying to pursue a reward in the form of videos which are not very fulfilling. Even though these vids arent fulfilling, they are still giving pleasure to the brain, and after this pleasure from attaining the reward comes a sort of mental "pain" that balances it out. For example, you got a christmas gift you've always wanted after having saved up for it, and then theres always a feeling of a "What now?" kind of emptiness that comes after big achievements like this. This happens on a smaller scale with scrolling and consuming social media too, getting a hit of pleasure from a video, having that pleasure dip down to a "what now?" feeling, and then in response to that "what now?" your brain uses dopamine to motivate you to seek another video in pusuit of that pleasurable feeling again, except now your baseline dopamine is lower (you feel a little bit less motivated to do ANYTHING). But scrolling isnt much effort so it costs very little to pursue the reward of vids that become decreasingly pleasurable the more you consume them. This pursuit, pleasure, pain, lower baseline dopamine is happening like what, every 20 seconds or so in the case of even just watching motivational weightloss tiktoks? In the end a lot of people who dont have motivation and cant get off the couch to do anything have exhausted their brain's reward centers. This is similar to how addiction works, like you wouldn't tell an opium addict to just "have dicipline" like it'll fix all their problems. So the question is, how do you actually take advantage of motivation to work FOR you instead of just offloading all the work onto "discipline" which is still needed and important but distinctly different from motivation? Cutting out all the little pleasure hits from unimportant things helps, and its not just social media, it can be food related, gaming related, the little notification pings on your phone from that app you downloaded but never use, etc. Literally sitting down and being bored for a whole day doing nothing will help refresh your baseline dopamine to better levels. Consistency while in pursuit of a goal can be formed by attaching pleasure to the pursuit more than the reward itself. So truly enjoy working out even if you turn into a bit of a masochist about it rather than finding pleasure in dropping 3 lbs off the scale at the end of the day, or finally fitting into the bikini or wedding dress. Because if you attach that much pleasure in fitting into clothing for example, what else will your brain seek in order to get a pleasure hit after the "what now?". If exercise itself isnt the pleasure youve trained yourself to keep seeking, your brain might as well pursue less healthier things as a substitute like binge eating or binge watching videos, etc.
You inspired a new generation of people to do fitness by making genuine meme content that not only educates about fitness but incorporates geek passions that people relate to. The content represents a large audience that never saw themselves to be capable of getting fit and you're real about how it's a long-term journey. Keep up the inspiration!
Madame beef thank you so much for adding subtitles on your own! I’ve been doing my backwards walking for my jelly baby knees for about 3 weeks now due to you lmaoo
Thanks for being so cute and upbeat about your personal fitness journey! I'm just getting "back on the horse" after a break due to mental health stuff. (I was still getting in 1 day a week tho, so I'm proud of that!) Being kind to yourself when working back up is hard but so important!!! ❤️
Thankyou for the kind words! Also congrats! Especially for taking care of your mental health! That’s super important.. equally so with physical health so huge props💪
Your answers on staying motivated(discipline) clicked with me sooo much. It’s not about doing things when the feeling is right. It’s about the feeling when you don’t wanna do shit and you do it any way. You aren’t always going to wake up on the right side of the bed and be gung ho about life, BUT… after you set a routine and follow the routine for the weeks, months or years to come it becomes easier and easier. You not only change your physical appearance if your routine is the gym. You change your entire mindset and how you think about things good or bad. Great video I love the content keep it up. I’m very glad I’ve stumbled upon your little(for now) channel.
I'd be interested in hearing who you look up to in the fitness world. A lot of people look up to you, but knowing what people you learn from and how you got your personal style could be interesting. Thanks for the great video!
After translating your forearm tattoos and the tats on the undersides of your fingers I appreciate your energy. Informative health content and a beautiful soul are exactly what people need more of from their health influencers. Thanks for your presence and contribution Patty.
Your advice on someone starting off is soooooo on point! At least that's what happened to me when I started last year. The two things I started doing (at 280 pounds) was walk and changing the inner dialogue in my head from punishing and insulting to encouraging. I didn't even walk consistently. I would sometimes walk for three days straight, and then it'd be maybe a week before I did more daily walks. Then I went to swimming and weights three days a week. Now I'm doing four to five sessions a week. A year later I'm down to 200 pounds! Looking at the goal of 180! So even if you start small, it is so surprising how quickly you can reach a fitness milestone even in a year!

I loved your answer about discipline. People often ask me how I stay motivated to go to the gym and I don't, I often don't want to go but not going isn't an option.
You are the perfect human being. Right now I am still doing full body workouts everyday and I feel kind of scared to move away from it because of body dysmorphia. For example having legs visibly underdeveloped compared to the rest of my body or the other way around.

Great questions and answers. Subscribed. I think the answer to the question about staying motivated, and it being more about discipline really hit home for me. The older I get, especially with two kids and a family in general, my time seems to dissappear. I still try to make time, getting up at 5 am and all that, but it's so hard to maintain... sigh. I'll get there eventually, but thanks for your videos, they actually are inspiring and hilarious.

11:20 I want to add on to this: your muscles aren’t going anywhere. They’re not just going to ghost you because you decided to take the week off to get better. So get some rest, drink fluids and medicine and get better. If you do get super sick where you can’t go to the gym for a while, that ok too. Just slowly acclimate to it when you get better. I know it’s discouraging but your health always comes first
The fact that i heard anyone say that Russian is a lovely language brings a tear to my eye. Usually we are called very threatening. Love from a Russian speaking folk
Would like to let you know that the way you explain things (in my opinion) is very clear and like, I feel like you don't have the overwhelming tone that some people have when they explain complicated things. And thats really nice, if that makes any sense Really thankful for this vid in any case
Não, mano, ela não fala. Só porque ela falou algumas frases traduzidas com um sotaque não tão forte e que ela com certeza escutou a pronúncia correta antes, não quer dizer nada, simplesmente não é uma língua que ela fala e pronto. Você não vai ver americano dizendo pra brasileiros: “oh, you speak my own native language better than me omg lol” só porque ela pronúncia alguma coisinha à nível A2 sem dificuldades; se vai simpar, simpa direito.
it's the 5th lockdown in my country and i've kinda lost my determination to workout with all these wfh and all, seeing your video gets me back up. thanks a lot.
Hi Patty... I know, SUPER LATE on responding to this video...but still wanted to. Also, I agree, you rambling in your vidoes is not only adorable, it's just how you are...and everybody loves it. So I don't know if you mostly prefer fitness questions, but I had a few. Some random things I (myself) am just curious about. Some fitness related. I'm not on Instagram (yet), so I'll always leave my questions in the comments for now... 1. Have you ever clocked in your top speed for running? 2. Have you ever tried break dancing? 3. Have you ever measured how high you can jump? 4. What are some of your most favoritest rainy day movies/foods? 5. Would you ever try any kind of military fitness training tests? 6. Do you like going on roller coasters? I hope non of these are stupid...again, just things I was thinking of. I'll try and think of more things to ask. I just don't want to get too personal or make you uncomfortable. Take care...and thank you for the video.
I only know you from seeing clips of you on youtube. Glad to see you have your own youtube channel. I can definitely see you being successful here on youtube.

"When people talk about motivation, they actually mean discipline"

So get some rest, drink fluids and medicine and get better. If you do get super sick where you can’t go to the gym for a while, that ok too. Just slowly acclimate to it when you get better. I know it’s discouraging but your health always comes first
The fact that i heard anyone say that Russian is a lovely language brings a tear to my eye. Usually we are called very threatening.
Love from a Russian speaking folk
since you mentioned, can somebody say what's written on her forearms? one is "я ни о чем не жалею" what the other one says?
Ты о чем? русский язык отвратительный
Started fitness this year, damn what a progress in 4 days💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
You're biggest mistake was to interact with us brazilians, now we are gonna follow you in ever single thing that you do! Love your content

That was actually really great advice for people who want ot start going to a gym. Loving your RUclips content!!!
I call her Patty the Baddy. 😁
Would like to let you know that the way you explain things (in my opinion) is very clear and like, I feel like you don't have the overwhelming tone that some people have when they explain complicated things. And thats really nice, if that makes any sense
Really thankful for this vid in any case
thank you, danny! that means alot🙏🙏
She has child's heart and nature but old man's wisdom ❤
Good to see you finally doing other things than just insta/tik tok ❤
Sigma female
if these videos come out regularly ill be amazed and very very very HAPPY ❤❤❤
Você não vai ver americano dizendo pra brasileiros: “oh, you speak my own native language better than me omg lol” só porque ela pronúncia alguma coisinha à nível A2 sem dificuldades; se vai simpar, simpa direito.
@@theinvinciblewinner kkkkkkkkk cara pra que um puta texto desse? Kkkkkkkkkk to simpando não só fiz um elogio exagerado
Ficou muito mordido mano

20 mins of Unfiltered Patty😩🙏🏽Yes Lord. Been watching your TikTok and Insta for a Year now
i love to see how exicted and stressed out you are while making videos. I'll gladly follow your youtube journey, waiting for more videos.
Famous for bodybuilding, but absolutely hilarious, cool, and entertaining on top of that. Subscribed!
You are on RUclips! nice, I'm watching you all the time now, love your personality and content!
Very relatable on the toxic motivation. I'll be lifting weights and thinking of the wide range of negative thoughts in my head = )
I was waiting for the second video, keep up, this is amazing ❤️
Great video patty !! Really enjoy the content you make on all platforms and your physique is INSANE ! keep doing what you're doing 😁
