This video is about the scrambler function & a quick fix if you don't want it to turn on anymore for the TRI PRC 152 replica radio. Please visit www.callmecolt.com
Anyone who gives you a range on a radio is wrong. The range of any radio is dependent on where & how it is used, along with where & how the radio(s) receiving the signal are using. You can get no signal through less than 50ft away or get a signal 50miles, all by moving just a few feet. Even the weather with an exact same setup can effect range. Unfortunately, that is the answer. Until you try it yourself, or have a basis to work from, like using a 5 watt radio & knowing this can do at least double that & understanding what that means.
Thank you for posting these videos. They have helped me a lot with my TRI 152. I tried this scrambler function between my 2 TRI 152s with both switches set to “CT” and both transmissions came out garbled. However, they communicate just fine to one another in the PT and LD modes. What could I be missing? Is there a way to change the scramble and descramble settings?
There is no way to change the setting at all. My best guess is that the two you got by chance had different firmware loaded & each firmware is using a different scrambler setting. Firmware is the HUGE flaw with these TRI radios.
@@CallMeColtLLC thanks. Yeah I was afraid of the issue being firmware. I work in IT and I know there has to be a way to figure out the pinout on these and then acquire the firmware needed. A good starting point for the pinouts may be to look at the KDUs for these.
I will probably do this in my final video on the radio & that will come soon as I really have not had as much interest in it after getting real Harris radios.
This is not directly related but I picked up a TRI AN/PRC-152 and it seems to have dual watch enabled by default. If I put something like a NOAA freq in A and switch to B, I can still hear the constant transmission from A. Do you have any idea how to fix this?
hello. I don't know if you could help me with a problem with my tri prc152. The thing is that a few days ago I was doing some checks with my radio and I realized that when I go to transmit to another radio, the other radio receives the transmission but does not transmit my voice. I have tried the external speaker and nothing, changing subtones and frequency and nothing
@@CallMeColtLLC could be. but I already tried with the internal and external microphone. with the Thales ptt and the peltor with their respective tri ptt and it remains the same
Resetting doesn't always clear options. I talked about this in one of the videos about settings not showing when programing channels. Is the radio not transmitting or is no one hearing you? Two different things that can mean two different problems. If it is not receiving either, I'd guess antenna issue off the top of my head.
@CallMeColtLLC I have three of these radios. The one I'm having g problems with will key up but I cannot hear any transmisson on the other radios. When trying to receive I get nothing. The other two transmit and receive fine on the same freqs.
I’m glad there’s someone out there that can give me some basic guidance on these radios that even a potato like me can follow.
I'm glad you found these videos helpful, got to learn somewhere! Don't feel bad, communication's gear is very complicated.
You have the most info on these radios, more than anyone else. Thank you.
You're welcome.
I like the cheerful end music.
Thanks! I've been sticking with it as ending music for that reason. Like it myself. 😎
Good job.
Thanks!
Do you know what's the range of those radios, becouse I can't find any info about that.

How about a long term AAR for these radios? I'd love to here your thoughts.

@@CallMeColtLLC very interesting. Where did you find those? I'd love to get some myself. Thanks.

I don't think there is a way to turn this off. I find it annoying myself. Yet another firmware flaw.
@CallMeColtLLC thanks for getting back with me. That's exactly what I didn't want to hear.

If you tried those things & also the selector for the scrambler, I'd think you may have a physical problem with the microphone.

My radio just all of a sudden stopped transmitting and receiving. Tried reset and same thing. Any thoughts?
Look in the Menue TOT
Time of Talk
Many you set a limit time for transmiting
@@frederictartarone582 no...its off, plus I reset the radio.

@@leebo8908 you need to see if power is actually coming out of the antenna connection with a testing device.
