In this Video Editor Reacts, I do another Taylor Swift reaction! This time I react to Taylor Swift - Willow. This was an awesome conclusion to the Cardigan, Willow series! Taylor Swift has yet to disappoint!

The string is meant to represent the “thread of gold” that ties her to her soulmate / partner. It’s based on a song from the album called Invisible String, with the symbology being that throughout life they were connected and meant to end up together, but had some darkness and false threads (another relationships) first before they found each other. I think the music box that she gets trapped in is meant to be that the industry traps her and prevents her from being with her partner / running away with him (hence why they only touch through the glass there, but finally get to touch hands in the end)

Love this interpretation....but in my opinion the string in cardigan is not false or a "trap"...I believe in "Cardigan" she depicts that her music/her art is her first love and her forever soulmate that has helped her through darkest times. The second story in "Willow" is a continuation of Taylor's life but a depiction of another kind of love she feels for her human soulmate.
Cardigan is from Folklore, Willow is from Evermore they are sister albums
Which also explains why willow is a continuation of Cardigan
I really love how you're connecting dots and finding easter eggs and also paying attention to the actual meaning behind stuff.
The cinematographer is actually a really big name. He’s worked with Taylor on 4 music videos including her recent Fortnight. But he also worked on movies like Killers of the Flower Moon and Barbie his two most recent.
Willow, represents multiple things; there is a Celtic dance called stripping the willow, and willow trees are inspiring and symbolic of humans' capability to withstand hardship, loss, and difficult emotions. Its long life and the ease with which new trees can be rooted from cuttings, the willow tree is also seen as a survivor and a symbol of rebirth.
Also, the dance they do in the Eras tour is the Stripping the Willow dance :)

To me it’s that the string leads her to him like an unspoken fate, no matter where they go it always leads her to him. So in the cabinet where I believe she’s playing the lute, she can see him but she can’t get to him, until the string guides her. I think it’s symbolic of the way no matter where life takes her it will lead her to him and to her music.

All I know about the guy who plays the love interest is that he was a backup dancer on one of her tours when she was younger? Also the instrument she's playing in the box is a lute! :D

The guy is Taeok Lee. He and Taylor go back to 2013 when he was a dancer on her Red tour. According to the Wiki page the orbs came about because of the California wild fires, it was supposed to be a bonfire, she came up with an alternative. It works well for the Eras Tour too.

There were a lot of symbolic references in this video harkening to lyrics from Folklore (Invisible String- single thread of gold led me to you), the kids in the tent (the song Seven about her and friend at 7 yrs of age), etc.
I love the music video so much. The lighting in Willow gives such a warm, cozy feeling. I believe that the gold refers to invisible string, a song on folklore. She also refers to her love being golden in a song called Daylight which is on Lover and the gold is I believe often connected to Joe.

They couldn't have filmed it at the same time, because cardigan came out on folklore in July and willow came out December on evermore...unless Taylor already had something in mind of course, but I think that once I was comapring the two shots side by side, the lighting was a bit different and actually the candles in willow were a bit bigger than the ones in cardigan (which just doesn't make sense) and the hair is also different. The actor is one of Taylor's dancers from her Red tour (2013-2014), she brought him back for this. I was just watching Peter Pan for the first time and when Tinkerbell was imprisoned in that lamp or whatever, it really reminded me of this, Taylor trying to get out of the cage, it looked really similar to this, the movement, the cage... and since there are Peter Pan mentions in cardigan and now even TTPD, I wouldn't take it for granted, the Peter Pan lore seems to be deeper than we previously thought.
There's also the fact that she was wet from the ocean at the end of Cardigan, but she's completely dry at the beginning of Willow.

evermore came out 5 months after folklore they could easily done it, just not on the same day.
@@Violet316 I mean yeah, but Aaron said in some interview that when she wrote willow she was like "I guess we're making another album" which doesn't exactly mean that it was after folklore came out, but I think that she was already done with folklore and she already filmed the video
@@adabadoskova2915 They’ve all confirmed that evermore happened during the Long Pond Sessions, so yeah. This video is just really carefully recreated - and she works with so many of the same people, it probably wasn’t quite as hard as it would be for you or I to do. 😉
I love that everyone has a meaning for this video when I thought we were all confused about it. Other than the obvious connection to the song Invisible String. Watching it now it takes me to the song on her new album called The Prophecy. She sings about once having faith (in a more religious sense) and is now consulting covens. She just wants someone to be her soulmate and she is begging fate to step in and change the path of her romantic life.

I like how it's not just a commentary on the editing, you also comment on the storytelling through video and editing. It adds a lot beyond the basic "how was this done" (which is also really interesting), and it's fun to see what you can add from your experience!
You should see the Eras Tour perfoof Willow. She took the witchy vibe live action with glowing orbs and cloaks.

10:39 I think you mean 'I did something bad' but you're absolutely right. Taylor uses images of witches and snakes in other songs/videos (e.g. recently in cassandra). And a circus in her works has represented the toxic entertainment industry - mirrorball, willow music video here, and now recently who's afraid of little old me. There's probably more. I've never noticed the image of a snake in the background in this video tho, wow

I saw it as while she went to a different world in search of him, he was searching for her which is why she finds him after she comes back because he was there waiting for her! Both of them used the string to find each other.
You gotta go listen to invisible string… you’ll see the parallels between the things that she puts in this video and that song

I don't know if you have time for recommendations, but as always I'd love to see more Blackpink related content. Despite me constantly asking for Blackpink, I'm actually not a huge K-Pop fan. Blackpink and (G)I-DLE are the only groups in the genre that I listen to. In that sense, I hope you'll maybe consider checking (G)I-DLE out in the future too. I love them and their videos. I feel like (G)I-DLE is always breaking boundaries in K-Pop and that's what I like about them. Good videos from them: Tomboy, Nxde, Revenge, Super Lady (newest single), Oh my god, I want that, I do, Allergy, Queencard (Allergy and Queencard videos are connected through story line. Should be watched together). Yuqi, one of the members, actually also released her solo album last month. The title track is called Freak. Also a really fun music video.

This song is about Tony and I. We met when I was 5, than again at 16, than again at like 32. The new album has a song Peter that is a parallel to this song. The song Cassandra is about my biological mother and lyrics say they filled my cell with snakes
