At the time you posted this, I was suffering from a strange flu, later diagnosed via CSF as bacterial meningitis. Eight months later. I woke up in the hospital after spending seven days in ICU in an "altered state of consciousness"--encephalomeningitis.
I had been complaining about ear pain, a chronically runny nose, loss of hearing and dizziness months before the first episode of meningitis. My PCP found ear wax and suggested peroxide for the ear and Benadryl for the "allergies." Neither offered relief.
While hospitalized, a CT and MRI revealed "diffuse reticular opacities consistent with acute mastoiditis" and an empty sella leaking CSF through my nose. Both mastoiditis and CSF leaks can cause meningitis. Now I'm waiting for surgery.

starlite 77 Only now am I receiving notifications about replies, so I apologize for not responding. Donovan, I hope you’re okay.
The head pain I remember was a combination of feeling like my head was being popped off my neck like a grape and a less intense bilateral migraine-like someone was poking ice picks through my eyes.
The stiff neck was like nothing I’ve experienced. Bending my head just a little caused an electric jolt from the top of my head through the bottom of my feet.
My temperature fluctuated between 101.3 and 103.4, rising and dropping within this range. My normal temp runs low, between 96 and 96.0.
There’s so much more to meningitis-sensory distortions, for example. The residual effects-for me, at least-have been profound.

I have an epidermoid tumour as well but that has stayed in tact
I have photophobia, neck stiffness, back ache and a camel hump on my neck, looks like cushings disease.

This morning I woke up with a throbbing sensation like migraine, my neck was hurting but it wasn't stiff. I lay back down when I felt a little pain in my jaw. I took some exedren, it stopped my migraine after about an hour nap. My jaw pain left right away. And my neck does not hurt anymore. My mom said if I can look down and touch where my upper chest is, then that is a good sign. I might go to the hospital in a few hours, I'll keep you guys up dated.

Hi I'm worried about my 6 year old. She said to me about 30 min ago her neck hurt and right about underneath her left shoulder blade and across to the bone on the spinal that's exactly where she's hurting nothing she can't tolorait because she keeps playing as a normal 6 year old. I just wouldn't want to regret not bringing her to ER. I'm scare because it also says the places I've read that meningitis can get worse within hours.😱 she also has a little cold starting going on just started today.
