very good video, loved it! Just to notify you however, just before official release they reworked the Hull Integrity system and now the reinforcement panels on the n,w,e,s corners no longer gives +14 strength (they give a regular +7 instead) thats to be taken in consideration while planning out your base's hull strength. Also, they increased the hull strength given by the bulkhead from 2 to 3 (possibly to compensate the nerf to the reinforcement panels)
Good thing you commented. That part sounded like a weird quirk in the integrity system and i thought they probably had that changed at some point. Do the windows work the same in all directions now as well?
Yes I did this video well before the final release where they changed the integrity values. Thank you for pointing that out for anyone watching it now.
Thank you, I had no clue how hullstrength works. I had my 1st base which is 30 meters and less and had the hull strength over 80 because I am paranoid about leaking.
Sean Cook I also am ever since my last Save had a broken and cracked base with 0 reinforcements, I WAS JUST TRYING TO BULD UP TO THE AURORA GOD DAMMIT!
One of my tricks for hull strength is when I build my moon pool I immediately reinforce 4 sides of it. You can actually put a total of 5 reinforcements on the moon pool, but I always leave one space for the vehicle upgrade console. This negates the -5 penalty for building a moon pool, & actually makes the moon pool a hull strength asset.
Although I beat the game already, and am currently working on a second playthrough, I still learned a couple things from this video. Thanks for sharing, much appreciated!
Didn't realize that depth also affects the base integrity. Thanks for these great tips. One question, is there a quick way to check the present integrity points?
I've only seen two ways to quickly check the base integrity. One is to save and reload the game, at which point it will show you the calculated integrity as it gives you all of the welcome back messages. The second is to either add or remove a component that will change the integrity. Removing I should be as simple as just partially deconstructing and then restoring it again.
I am SO glad that I found this video, thank you for making it!!! This is completely the opposite of how I thought the hull integrity values were used. I thought you had to have higher and higher base hull integrity values the deeper you went, but had no idea what depth required what integrity range. Thank you SO MUCH for clearing all that up!!!
I noticed that a single tiger plant was the reason my base kept flooding. Every time I swam past it (which I didn't even realize it was there, until I finally got hit) it was hitting my base and eventually it would start to flood. Once I moved my moonpool from right above it, my base stopped leaking.
Omg Thanks for the explanation, just added Moonpool and my base instantly went to shit and I panicked.......... did not have a clue what to do so I just quit and started from my last save point haha!
I love how you can build an unconnected multi-purpose room stack as long as it is on foundation that connects. Then just reinforce that outlying building. Voila!
I tried building a separate base next to it NOT CONNECTED TO MY MAIN and it just started flooding, I don’t have enough lead for my moonpool just to fix this.
I like putting single non-intersection tubes between my MPRs with 2 reinforcements each, so I can have enough integrity to make lots of MPRs full of windows. Most of my bases are over 30 integrity.
Very nicely done. Even if the values have changed with the 1.0 release it's easy enough to see how an item affects your hull strength based on the info you presented. I play on the Xbox One X and I've built a ton of reinforcement panels and they all seem to add +7 regardless of the face I'm applying it to. I'll have to double check and see if the console version will give me a +14 if built on a cardinal direction. Thanks :-)
Thank you so much! this really helpfull ! my base suddenly flooded and no matter what I do - Ifix it's still coming. until i found you vid, thanks man!!
I really wish you weren't swimming around randomly... I haven't seen any of those places yet and I don't want to be spoiled, so I can't really watch. Sounds like it's a really informative video though. Thanks anyway!
@serar infinity You're *not* a toxic angry person? You sure about that? This is a video explaining a game mechanic. For someone who had already beaten the game, they probably wouldn't need to watch a video explaining a game mechanic. This video is not titled 'Bulkheads plus endgame content.' It's not like this is a review or walkthrough. Why should I think that he's going to be randomly swimming around in the endgame area while he's explaining an early game mechanic? I needed to understand how base building worked, which is, y'know, far more important in the early game before you can build a Cyclops. After I built a Cyclops, I only ever built one more base in the Underground River. I hadn't been to a lot of the places he was swimming around in. And apparently, judging by the likes I've gotten on this comment, others agree with me. Can you imagine looking up how to finish an early game quest, finding a video that says it's specifically about that quest, only to see footage from the end of the game? I'd imagine you'd be pissed. That's exactly what happened here. Also, Discord servers have to have people online at the time you have a question to get an answer. Why shouldn't I watch a video about the same thing? Regardless, maybe don't be such a confrontational asshole. I wasn't rude in my original comment, there was no reason for you to be either.
@serar infinity 'no but like forreal' I guess I thought you were saying you weren't a toxic little shit? My bad for thinking you'd try to defend yourself. But yeah, people like you make gaming suck. I genuinely hope you're never called 'stupid' for not understanding something. It's quite a shitty feeling. I had never played a game like Subnautica. I also have some learning disabilities and I don't always understand things at first. Sometimes it takes me a while, which is why it's great that people like MrSpicyGaming make videos explaining things in an easy to understand way. Since you seem to be less than an adult, I'll just assume that you are, in fact, a kid. It's too bad that your parents have raised you in such a way as to be a rude, gatekeeping little shit to people that you can't see. It's sad that you feel the only way to communicate is to be a cynical little fuck. And I emphasize little because you really do seem like such a small person to me. People like you are really so very small. That's why you feel the need to express your superiority in the one thing you're good at, because you aren't good at anything else. Anyway, reply to this or don't. Frankly I couldn't care less. I hope your life gets better, and I hope that someday you'll understand that there's more to life than being a snotty little prick to random people online.
Man, this is so frustrating. I’ve put so many hours into finding all the blueprints and gathering materials. I put together a multipurpose room and a few glass compartments, then holes are popping up everywhere. To top it all off, I can’t even deconstruct anything. I’m sure it’s pretty straightforward once getting into the swing of it....but right now I feel like quitting.
Ok I have my base in the safe shallows and I have reinforcements everywhere but it’s constantly leaking even though I have over fifty hull strength how do I prevent that?
This helps a lot for us latecomers to the game, thank you. Though I wish you didn't show any monsters towards the end without a spoiler warning... Nothing has been more exciting to me in this game so far than that first meeting with a new monster.
Usally for me. I stack like 4 multipurpose rooms. Put the reinforcement plates on the and use them for power and storage. Build a fairly large base easily.
Had no idea about the cardinal directions on the rooms. Basically it is due to having built my FIRST base a few feet away from the life pod right next to the coral tube that sticks out of the water. Its nice to have both corals acid mushrooms and large TAN tunnel nearby that has all the quartz but, Its kinda a pain in the ass right next to that tube. Now that I have a Seamoth, I need to move....
Yes and no. Certain things will still work like the Fabricator, Med Kit Station, Wall Lockers, and such. Other items such as the full Wall Planter will not be placeable over it since it takes up the whole wall.
MrSpicyGaming ok thax you gor the info your video has helped me but also killed my base idea I was going to have a 3x3 base with with 16 connecting pipes but now I might change it it would would look like the following with 8 pipes on the outside & the center room having 8 pipes as connections ooo ooo ooo
Place your reinforcements on the walls of the connecting pipes first and see how much hull strength you still need. That should free up enough Multipurpose room walls for your other needs.
I wonder whether this was changed. Apparently my base has a Hull Strength of over +60 and I'm still getting ruptures periodically, even though half my base is above the water level.
Your base might be getting attacked by something. Often I would come back to my base in the shallows to find a swarm of stalkers and a rupture in the base
Not sure if last message went through . But I got a question . My base keeps leaking I fix all the leaks and checked liked 4 times and no more but my place is still knee level with water and I had at least 20 hall space left just got it up to 60 now and still leaking any suggestions??? I’ve tried everything I can think of ?
Just got the game a few days ago ... Have pretty much all compartments and this is the second base in the same area. Deconstructed base cause it too kept on flooding for no reason. The reason why I came here is I thought I figured it out. My hull strength is at a total of 57.1 (I'm only at 12 meters or so under sea level) and so I figured I can add another water filtration (making it 3 all together) I added one more hull reinforcement where I wanted to put the 3rd filter ... then I add more power and the whole thing starts flooding, before I can even add the water filter. Anyway ... I guess the update version has removed the X notification on the hull reinforcement because there not showing up at all in my test. I basically did the same thing as the video with the multipurpose room. In my test there all solid green and you do see an X in the middle but the whole reinforcement shows up as the same no matter what side I put it on. So I just don't know why my base is flooding ... is there such a thing as too much reinforcement??? After checking these websites ... still not much help. subnautica.fandom.com/wiki/Hull_Integrity subnautica.fandom.com/wiki/Reinforcement_(Subnautica) Went back to save point and will do without the 3rd water filtration till I figure this out. Any suggestions???😕 I am now going to build on one of the Island or at sea level ... if that get flooded then this game is going to suck ...
Got a question I’m at safe shallows prob about 20 meters is my lowest part some of my base comes out the water so im not deep I have at least 30 more space for hall and i still get leaks and I’ve been stuck on one where I literally checked every spot in my base and the water still is knee level ? Any suggestions like I seriously checked every spot r times and still have a leak? I have a lot of windows but I still have s plenty of hall space. Any ideas ? And I’m missing somthing here ? Would deff appreciate any help
If by hall space you mean hull integrity, you shouldn't need even 20 hull strength at that shallow of a depth. Increasing your hull strength won't fix leaks so if you still have water coming in, there is a leak somewhere. If you cannot hear the sound of a leak, then you may just have a spot where the health of the component is not 100%. Either that or one of the base components is bugged.

Well in the full release why should you care?
Just saying:the *SUPER SEAGLIDE GLITCH*
Yeah I tested this thebsecond I saw it and it didn't give me 14. Then I realised when MSG made the video.
I admire accounts that are 10 years old and just post one comment
base is barely 30 meters down in the safe shallows, over 120 hull strength. Because I like the look of bulkheads and reinforcements far too much
Im doin The same too lol
150+ 😎😎😎😎
In creative I fill my bases with bulkheads because I think they look cool
What a waist of lithium....

This is very basic algebra. What kind of school did you go to that doesn't teach _that_?
Maybe he went to a good school and didnt gave a flying fuck to what the teachers were saying, like other most kids. 😑
Today class, we will learn about ALGEBRA. You want good Algebra so when you build an underwater base or a space ship: YOU DON'T DIE!!!
that would make lessons so much more entertaining

Woah woah woah, THERE ARE MATH IN THIS GAME? Great, now I can play it whole summer and still proud to told my mom that I've been studying all along
Lesson learned: you don't need to turtle up your hull strength to triple digits, eh? That's exactly what I've been doing.
You are my go to for all things Subnautica!
This is some usefull stuff, i gotta remember this. Thx for these tricks
I like the way the reinforced hull looks so my base has a hull integrity of bout 160 lmao
If you build a tube on a cardinal direction versus a non-cardinal direction is there a difference in the decrease to your whole strength?
But how high is the chance of leaks relative to the hull strength if the hull strength is positive?
I like putting single non-intersection tubes between my MPRs with 2 reinforcements each, so I can have enough integrity to make lots of MPRs full of windows. Most of my bases are over 30 integrity.
My whole house flooded and I had to repair the whole damn house and it sucked so thanks for the video man

How about hull strength when it comes to the Seamoth and or Cyclopes?

I don't why when i make a tube near my multipurpose room the room start to flood because of low hull integrity
Can someone explain why?
I wonder whether this was changed. Apparently my base has a Hull Strength of over +60 and I'm still getting ruptures periodically, even though half my base is above the water level.
Your base might be getting attacked by something. Often I would come back to my base in the shallows to find a swarm of stalkers and a rupture in the base

My hull strength is 0 and it’s fine...it won’t stay at zero for long just until I can find lithium to make reinforcements
