Cracking review. Our log splitter is similar but I use it on the ground on some mahoosive rounds (50cm easily). I like the tray sides on yours, it's wider than mine but ours has two levers which it IS possible to operate with one hand 😁
Thank you. It’s ripe for modifications. I have no doubt it can do big rounds, I think the set limit is for safety. A foot based switch would mean I could have the stand a bit lower and then it’s easier to lift and place bigger rounds.
I bought this model end of last year so not done much long term splitting yet ,totalally agree with all your points pros/cons ,I bought mine for 285 euros with safety cage /which I dont use as cant put big rounds on and gets stuck .w/out the stand as i put it a waist high on tressale and big bit of ply board so when logs fall you don,t have to pick up from the floor (i,m spliting rounds of 25 inch ) this will cope with ease . i think like you the two hand operation is bit of a pain think may be some sort of foot pedal for the motor start would be good but only a thought ,but they are built with two stage because there are some idiots who will get injured use this . would well recommend as a cheap splitter .says it german but think it may be chinise some where along the line . good reveiw where in the baltics are you you have a good english accent ? i,m from uk but have lived in latvia for 7/8 years now as married to latvian lady .
Ha ha small word live lilaste small village. I lived in Hatfield peverel before moving to my own house in Maldon Essex .I like Latvia so open and we live not far from beach which get to tho our land .
@@BalticHomesteaders example. we used a simple 3 phase motor with a rotating cone at the end. You push the wood onto the cone and it splits. It is simple, cheap but SLOW. We soon found out that this method is quite expensive. energy costs, just for splitting about 30% of ready made and delivered firewood.
I changed the pressing switch for a on/off switch, to make it 1 hand operable. Thats what im used to with the other model i had, and it worked like a dream. The power draw is nothing tbh, i checked.. The problem i have is with the other kind i had, dropping the lever retracted the ram. But on this scheppa the ram wont retract while the engine is going... So changing the switch kinda got me nowhere... Any1 know a way to make the ram retract while the power is going...? lol
I fixed it btw. No footpedal is not ideal at all. In my opinion a switch to turn it on, and pressing lever down making it press, and as soon as you release the lever, it should retract. Preferably fast. I modded mine to do this just now, in the easiest way you can imagine..
@@BalticHomesteaders yes storing is not a problem it's the starting it in them low temps the hydraulic oil is too thick big expensive hydraulic machines have heaters to warm the oil just so you know
I like the fact that you can use it while standing. I could see exactly the things you aren’t as happy with.
great review, when i tested it out i put a like 60cm log on it and it managed to split it lol
With a mod to hold bigger logs on there better I think it will be no problem.

Hi agree. We’re up in the north near the Estonian border. I’m from the UK too, from the south but left Norfolk to come here. What about you?

It should be possible to fit a foot pedal attached to the lever instead of the switch.
Yes I have to do this soon! Thanks.
Hi, are you still happy with your unit, one year later?
Yeah it did great this year too, like a work horse. I did modify it to make the operation one handed there’s a video on the channel.
@@BalticHomesteaders Can't find it... would mind providing the link, please?

I wonder, how much electricity you use to cut 1m3 of firewood?
Good question, I have no idea but probably can work it out. One day when we’re all solar it won’t matter :)
@@BalticHomesteaders point about solar true. 👍However, without solar, it's much different now. ☝️
It’s true, we just had our bill :)

@@krissozolins8302 good thing about this is the motor only runs when you actually want to split otherwise it’s all off.

Good to know. Think a foot pedal is the way to go.

Ill try show u videi
Did you just short out the switch ?
@bstack10 yes effectively, well bypassed it really, made it redundant.
So i have the same model, and i uploaded a short video illustrating how it can easily become 1 hand operable.
Watch the temp -5 lowest temp
We wouldn’t operate it at that temp anyway it’s only used in the spring and summer. It’s survived -20 stored in the garage over winter.
