Today is the 40th anniversary of this song's release as a single. Also, what's surprising was that's Deniece Williams's second and last #1 hit in the US Billboard Hot 100 and it was a success to make it to #1 at that time as her only #1 as she does solo. Her previous and first #1 was in 1978 when she collabed with Johnny Mathis with "Too Much, Too Little, Too Late" and is her only #1 where she collabed with another musician. This song was the second single of the "Footloose" soundtrack to make it to #1 after the title track by Kenny Loggins.
Yeah, the males of today needs to hear a female singing positively about them. 85% of the songs in the last 15 years have either put them down or told them that they weren't needed.
An amazing song about a woman celebrating her man. Not many like this will ever come after this. At least we have this beautiful number! Thank you Deniece Williams!
I think she is celebrating all the boys in her life: her son (boy in dunce cap), her husband (man at piano) and her brother (football guy). :) There is a similar song about girls by Martina McBride that you might like called "This One's For The Girls"
Hey, it's "Amazing" how lack of vocabulary is so common in society (ignorance, lack of education) that everyone sounds uniformly ignorant. Wouldn't you agree?
OMG, I was just a little girl of 6 when this came out... My beautiful baby brother had just turned 1, and I used to sing this to him and make him dance around the front room with me every time it came on the radio - it was "our song" for years! 😍 We were like a double act - we even had rhyming names (Beth and Seth!) 😂 I can still see his gorgeous smile and hear him laugh - he was such a sweet, kind little boy - but sadly he was also very poorly and had a lot of health issues, and in 1992 he died of Reye's Syndrome aged 9 (when I was 14)... When it became obvious he wasn't going to make it, I put this song on and we had one last singalong to it as he lay in the hospital bed... As the song ended, he smiled at me and held my hand, and shortly afterwards he fell asleep, and never woke up again... I'm now 44 and still miss him terribly - but as the 30th anniversary of his passing approaches, rather than sadness, the song fills me with joy and happiness, remembering all the great times we shared while he was still with us... R.I.P. Seth - LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE BOY!!! 👦

after a while you dont even notice the flaws of someone you love ,im glad im not a teen of today with the media and society always emphasizing anything that isnt perfect.thank goodness my wife saw past my flaws.
Deniece Williams Big UP. Your voice has thrilled millions of listeners world all over. I'm a 90's-2000's baby but for some reason music from the 70's and 80's always makes me happy to the point of tears. I really envy y'all who got to hear music like this on the radio 24 -7 back then.
yeah but if you heard a song youd have to try to tape it while it was on the radio or go buy the CD (or the single) at a record store. Its so much easier now, but the music of today is pretty trashy. im 37 but feel like im 60. I hate 95% of whats popular today.
@@pat442389 The occasional song today is really good in my opinion, two of my favorite songs (Don't Start Now and Blinding Lights) have a bit of an 80's pop feel to them but I could be wrong
@@sarahberkner I just dont feel like you get the amount of great music that you used to get. I can even remember trying to hate bands, songs or specific genres but their music was so good or catchy i ended up liking them. Today i hear rap, pop or R&B, even country and it all sounds pretty much the same. Id guess 70-90% are all written and produced by the same songwriters and producers. Its just so derivative. Ive felt this way for at least the last 5-10 years... maybe more. Im 38 now and i feel like i sound like a 65 year old grump. I want to like music and find new songs but nothing i hear today is very good. I think theres plenty of people that are talented, i just dont think they do their own thing. They are forced into sounding a certain way, to write songs over 3 minutes but under 4. Made to have hooks and things like that placed at predetermined points. I want more spontaneous musicians that arent afraid to experiment or fail.
@@pat442389 I was born in '95, but yeah I've heard radio was better back in the day. And some 80's (like Madonna) I don't like but a lot of it is great. There's something to be said for being able to hear a song on demand now, I know people say it makes you take music for granted but I appreciate it.
The 80's produced the best music .All the bands both guys and girls were terrific.Hits after Hits always came .Not the music of today just simply failiure.legends were made and today they just can't replicate
I agree with you 100% I miss the 80s more and more as I get older I'm starting to see how things are in today's generation it's horrible people done lost their f****** minds and on top of that music nowadays don't mean a damn thing it's all about sex sells and that's that. One thing that I can say about the '80s that I love was that it was a time where going to the movies with someone meant something watching things on television from cartoons to regular TV shows they were something not to mention the clothes we used to wear was more classier than the clothes that people wear these days yes back then we were dealing with stuff like AIDS and drugs and yes the crime was a little bit high but looking at music videos like this makes everything look and feel different
You see this is what men want from women some kind of praise and appreciation for all the hard work we do. I think it's something all men don't get enough of from women 😢
Omg I preach this singing to my son the public school system tried to tell him that he's nothing going nowhere . His GPA proves them liars he held them accountable for what they were teaching him they were teaching him behind what he was educated in and then they started punishing him because he thought he knew it all. This now is the theme song for him
I love the 80s. I missed the 80s. If the 80s was so great, I can only try to Imagine what heaven would be like. So happy that i got to experienced the 80s for myself. When I feel down and stressed that's where my Imagination would go.
Heaven is right here. Just ask Belinda Carlisle..."Heaven is a place on earth." We've been experiencing heaven for years. And when we depart, that's the final chapter.
Ugh, I absolutely love this song. Growing up, my momma would always play this song when she met my now step dad lol Now, I’m 24 & I always sing this in my head whenever my boyfriend does something sweet... or really just all the time he’s around💕💕💕
Billie Jean was the year before. When Doves Cry (Prince) What's Love Got to Do with It (Tina Turner), Jump (The Pointer Sisters), Dancing in the Dark (Bruce Springsteen), Somebody's Watching Me (Rockwell), The Glamorous Life (Sheila E), Time After Time (Cyndi Lauper).
David Kerr Sorry ...but I don't know what your talking about. MJ had one song in the top 100 songs of 1984 and it was Thriller at #78, the song was released in January of 84. Billie Jean did not over-lap into 1984. Many albums last on the charts for more than a year..because album charts are based on sales only
+ddogg71 Yeah I was in the 4th grade but 8 remember also very clearly my childhood 80's music. I remember that us school kids always talked about the different types of music we loved.
This was a number one hit for Denience - she was also one of the first Afro-American female artist to be played in heavy rotation on MTV (after Donna Summer became the first in 1983 - with She Works Hard for the Money). Also listen to the Melisma used in this song. This is 1984 - but of course wikipedia incorrectly gives credit to Mariah and Whitney for being the first to bring it to pop radio in the 90s. Most of us that were there, knows that isn't true
+goldenroberson84 That was 1987, Donna was the first in 1983. She was also the first to be played in consistent heavy rotation. Followed by the Pointer Sisters and Tina Turner. Donna the first to be nominated to an MTV Award and Tina was the first to win an MTV award. Wikipedia incorrectly gives WH credit for this trailblazing in her bio, but it is far from the true. They also say that WH help other minorities like the Latinos...LOL.. I guess they never heard of Linda Ronstadt or Julio Iglesias who both were played in heavy rotation, before Whitney debut in 1985; or Sheila E who was not only played in heavy rotation before WH; but nominated for 3 MTV Awards and 2 Grammys before WH.
This song reminds me of my sister Betty. She was much older than my brothers and I but she would always play it for us. She passed away last October. This song brings a smile to my face thinking about Betty
Sorry for your Lost. Betty must have been an amazing soul. Who can feel this song must be. God bless her soul and your family. Love from just another Soul, The Netherlands/ Europe
Happy belated birthday. When I was a kid in the early 80s occasionally me and my brother would tape MTV for a few hours on VHS. We just watched one the other night and boy did it take me back. Remember when MTV actually played music videos? I miss the 80s/90s. Different time and a different world.

The 80's had the best music including this song!
They were the best music years!
I think you're spot-on.
80s were great! but I'm of the opinion that pop punk hits of 90s/2000s were the best
80’s hip hop and 90’s R&B was the best!
80's, 70' and 60's had the best pop music
I love this song so much, actually appreciating the person you love no matter their flaws. People always complain about their partners flaws instead of embracing them for what they are and what they do
Chantell Hewitt this!!! I get a chance to have my ex back this week. I will never take them for granted again.
after a while you dont even notice the flaws of someone you love ,im glad im not a teen of today with the media and society always emphasizing anything that isnt perfect.thank goodness my wife saw past my flaws.
Ruhe1986 did u guys get back together ???
i love the vibes in this song
Deniece Williams Big UP. Your voice has thrilled millions of listeners world all over. And, am leaving my finger print on this for generation to come that I did say, you are one of the greatest and even in the world beyond I know they are singing all your songs. "Let us hear it ..." from...this girl: Deniece Williams---Let's hear it for the boy." Rastafari Bless to all her fans.
@@pat442389 Facts. 27 and have the musical taste of a 65 yo.
Love this song.. I say it’s for my husband who I love so much.. 💯❤️ been with him for 20 yrs now..
Nice!
May you have many more years of happiness!

HAPPY 74TH BIRTHDAY DENISE WILLIAMS🎶🎤🎵🙌🌹🫶
Omgoodness
This song came out 40 years ago. She was 34 when she made this? She looks at least 10 years younger than that in this video.
Shes an old coot
Who couldn't love the brilliant Denise Williams, but I think I'm right in saying, her last hit single in Britain. Timeless Classic.
Whattt!!! She's 74?
RIP 1980s, I miss you every day :(
I agree with you 100% I miss the 80s more and more as I get older I'm starting to see how things are in today's generation it's horrible people done lost their f****** minds and on top of that music nowadays don't mean a damn thing it's all about sex sells and that's that.
Me too!!😢
Except for the AIDS
YES! So true.. :-)
PREACH!
man 70s 80s n 90s music be givin me good ass vibes
then 2000 came and music died. RIP Music.

kid Senju i like the 80's the most just admit alot of people out their that the 80's was the decade of the best music ever besides the 70's and 90's!

lol, yeah with help of tons and tons of hairspray & gel lol
You see this is what men want from women some kind of praise and appreciation for all the hard work we do. I think it's something all men don't get enough of from women 😢
This is my song for my husband. He's my hero and I try to let him know he's appreciated all the time.
The 80’s was the Bomb!! Love it!!❤️❤️❤️
How are you doing today my name is Eric Moore
I don't know why this song just popped in my head in 2023.. Great music from my childhood❤❤❤
I always remember it from Footloose when Chris Penn is getting his glow up
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Watching footloose now, had to listen to it again, absolute mint tune ❤
Just thought of the name Romeo for our new puppy, then this song popped up in my head! Hadn’t heard it in years!!🎉
The hymn of 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
I use to sing this to my son when he was a baby!! He’s 11 now!! Still a sweetie
Omg I preach this singing to my son the public school system tried to tell him that he's nothing going nowhere . His GPA proves them liars he held them accountable for what they were teaching him they were teaching him behind what he was educated in and then they started punishing him because he thought he knew it all. This now is the theme song for him
Can you Please give a SHOT out to my son out 7 year old son Kamryn Amarteifio
wow. Celebrate! Celebrate! I sung this on a cruise. It was fun. No regrets. Celebrate all the Men!!!!
This makes me miss my mom so much
I'm sure she misses you just as much.
I grew up in the '80. When exactly was this song done. It's one of my favourite songs, together with Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody Loves Me Better"
Ugh, I absolutely love this song.
Growing up, my momma would always play this song when she met my now step dad lol
Now, I’m 24 & I always sing this in my head whenever my boyfriend does something sweet... or really just all the time he’s around💕💕💕
I miss the 80s😭😭😭😭😭
You're not the only one 😔!!!
I'm back at Summer 1984 and in 7th grade, one of my best summers Ever.
Billie Jean was the year before. When Doves Cry (Prince) What's Love Got to Do with It (Tina Turner), Jump (The Pointer Sisters), Dancing in the Dark (Bruce Springsteen), Somebody's Watching Me (Rockwell), The Glamorous Life (Sheila E), Time After Time (Cyndi Lauper).
dude how old are you?
David Kerr Sorry ...but I don't know what your talking about. MJ had one song in the top 100 songs of 1984 and it was Thriller at #78, the song was released in January of 84. Billie Jean did not over-lap into 1984. Many albums last on the charts for more than a year..because album charts are based on sales only
Fernando Delgado I was in the 6th grade in 84 and I can remember it like yesterday
+ddogg71 Yeah I was in the 4th grade but 8 remember also very clearly my childhood 80's music. I remember that us school kids always talked about the different types of music we loved.
YES! Positive reinforcement for boys and men! We need more of this
Listen to more 80s music, then.
yes ! we need mens rights! #trump2020
Yes, men are so discriminated.
Women have all the rights, right?
Jonathan Arnold men have rights #biden2020 #AOC2024 🥳
Yes, we need our men and boys to be strong.
+Mick Denis Wow! I always thought it was Whitney, thanks for sharing!
It was Whitney for I wanna dance with somebody
+Mick Denis You could edit Wikipedia and put in the more accurate information.
damn skippy! the Lil cutie in this video was in the movie Newsies I believe!
Deniece’s signature siren register as the song closes is the cherry on top of this supercharged masterpiece!
Yes
The little boy in the music video is one hell of a dancer..his dance moves are just phenomenal
Aaron Lohr!!
I really love 💕 this music since my childhood
That boy went on to have an excellent career in film and theater (and marry the wildly talented Idina Menzel)
I'm surprised there's no comment about him wearing a dunce's hat at the beginning, that wouldn't go down well in today's woke world!
@@jameswyse8250 😅
This song reminds me of my sister Betty. She was much older than my brothers and I but she would always play it for us. She passed away last October. This song brings a smile to my face thinking about Betty
Sorry for your Lost. Betty must have been an amazing soul. Who can feel this song must be. God bless her soul and your family. Love from just another Soul, The Netherlands/ Europe
I'm so truly sorry for your loss.
Let's give it up for Betty...even though she is not here, she is saving seats for all of you in paradise and rocking to this still.
So sorry for your loss, what a great memory of her.
Did she give you a handy?
As an 80's teenager I would come home from school, turn on the radio, and just simply hear brilliant tunes like this one.
Me tooooo 😚
I turned on MTV, back when they actually played music videos! (1980’s, very early 90’s). I haven’t watched MTV since.....
@@solrosenberg3803 do they even still have MTV ?
@@victornewman508 I don’t know. I haven’t watched it since the early 90’s. Haha
They have MTV Classic where they play music videos but MTV Nowadays Is Just Reality TV.
Yes I'm here in 2024 and still love this music
Me too!❤🎶
Same!!
Real Talk 💪🏽
Listening 08-12-2024. 80's music was the best & glad I was in high school during the 80's
That’s about the most generic thing a person could say…
I love the 80s very much........... and this song is one of the reasons why I love it.
Heard this song in a movie and now I'm hear, I would've love to have been apart of this era in music, her voice is filled with pure joy and love.
FOOT LOSE

Happy belated birthday. When I was a kid in the early 80s occasionally me and my brother would tape MTV for a few hours on VHS. We just watched one the other night and boy did it take me back. Remember when MTV actually played music videos? I miss the 80s/90s. Different time and a different world.
Keimar Clarke what about the cars that go boom,
My mom use to play this, I would play this, years ago, Tonight I decided to play it, brings me to tears, all the best singers
I was a vocal performance major in college when this song was released. One of my friends used to beg me to sing the really high notes at the end in my "opera voice". OMG, and he STILL wants me to after all these years ❤️
Lovely comment, Hello Martha how are you doing 👋👋👋
Please tell us you still sing it for him! 🥰😩🥹
