"Get his ass, Peppino" is an amazing line that perfectly sums up the bossfights
And a terrifying one in the bosses' perspective. Imagine seeing a berserk Italian man running supersonic speeds just to beat you so hard you become a Ren and Stimpy character.
I just love how collectively everyone that reviews pizza tower doesn't show the fourth boss to thee the surprise to new players
[SPOILERS] (Also I find it funny Pizza Tower has spoilers)

A correction about the rank system: S rank does not require all secrets and toppins and treasure found, it usually requires you to get a point total of around 16000 points in the levels (which usually requires lap 2 and toppins and about 1-2 secrets, as well as a pretty high combo)
Edit: by it, I mean John gutter, which is the level I found out this info from
Man git da fuck outta heeeeeeeeere! Ain't no toppins on your deep dish, we play for keeps down on Sillyman Street.
@@NotHackstr John Gutter you can s-rank without finding all secret portals. The letter grade changed to S as soon as I hit about 15500. I ended the level missing one secret and a total of 17757 points
@@dyingstar24 I'll second Star on this, S Rank is just a REALLY HIGH score gate.
High enough that you probably WILL need to grab all the optional collectibles regardless.
P Rank is what you want for the "do everything" run.
So it does essentially require the Toppins, it's just VERY difficult to do without them.
@@strangecolouredbird toppins are the only thing I'd consider a requirement, since you have to get them anyway
When the game came out, I knew it was going to be great. Somehow, they blew me away despite the lack of multiplayer and the removal of level editor. The passion put into this game is unmatched from anything I’ve ever seen.
Wait.. multiplayer and level editor?? Damn those would be hype
@@zombeebear30 from what I know player 2 whould be the 3rd boss
@@romanianarab from what I’ve heard, multiplayer will be added in the future (one player will be Peppino and the other will be the third boss, Noise)
Pretty sure the level editor is completely canned though
@@-awezomexd- Quick correction: Playable Noise is most certainly planned, however co-op is a hard maybe.
level editor was patreon only and multiplayer had issues
I originally found this game way back at its original Sage 2018 demo, and even all the way back it was already oozing with charm and potential.
Right then and there i knew as soon as this game launched I would be one of the first to play it And it lived up to every expectation I had for it and more!
I wish I knew about this game while it was in development. I've always wanted a fast paced platformer like sonic but better. I even got into wario land 4 a few months before pizza tower started booming. This game really is my ideal game, and I think it might even become as major in my life as stuff like TF2.
Also I hope that Italians get added in the next IRL update because purgatory kinda sucks ngl
A man of knowledge, anyone that says P stays for perfect is wrong, P is for Pizza
If you need any proof, the S rank says perfect on the bottom, then why would you use again P for Perfect again, P stands for Pizza
Me, an intellectual: P stands for Peppino
Me, the biggest intelectual: p is for perfect, pizza, peppino and paisano
@@destroyerthepro1101 you have outsmartes me, paisano, you are now the pizza man
It could also just stand for pasta even through Peppino doesn't make any pasta.
I love the boss fights especially. Patterns are (mostly) consistent, meaning each hit feels like my fault instead of the game's. Bosses have a long stun time in first phase, allowing you to understand proper times to counterattack. Best of all, health drops throughout the fight, rewarding you for continuing the fight instead of restarting when low. Everyone playing this, be a casual or a completionist- the goal always seems achievable.
couldntve said it better myself tbh
Tell that to the normies at the steam forums lol. They keep complaining about Pepperman being too difficult.
@@panthekirb7561 ????????????? his attacks are so well telegraphed how XD
@@anonamoly I could see the weird "bounce off the wall" attack being really hard to hit if you don't know about the uppercut (which technically isn't in the tutorial). Also, his difficulty level up in second phase is adding more shit on the screen to keep track of which some people REALLY can't handle.
@@uberculex The Vigilante's fight is just him throwing shit at you while more shit flies around the screen. If they can't handle Pepperman, they might as well quit the game while they're ahead.
I genuinely think games like Pizza Tower are the future of gaming.
Graphics will lose their power to style, and story will fall to substance.
Well said, king. 👑 My prayers will be with you.
Agreed, considering even a lot of the casual crowd are getting fed up with the AAA, "cinematic", live service/always online etc. crap I forsee a "crash" of sorts where even the big companies start making more focused, indie-esque games. Or at least that's my hope.
Well... They already did
We can only hope.
I share the same mindset, I always prioritise visual style over "realistic 4k RTX graphics". I don't get this whole realistic graphics mindset. Like bro, if they want to see realistic grass and sky and people or whatever then why don't they just go outside, games were made for fun they were not made to look pretty.
Pizza Tower was easily my most anticipated game, and I’d say it definitely deserves game of the year. I remember playing so many of the demos when this game was still in development and had a blast trying to speedrun them all. Pizza Tower was well worth the wait.

I normally buy games like this exclusively on my Switch (it just feels like home there), but I’ve recently gotten a Deck, and man am I loving it on there. We need more games that are just truly “fun” to play.
we didnt even make it through the second month yet and pizza tower is already claimed to be indie game of the year, and i cant even blame yall for that, its THAT good
What can I say brother? when the boys from South Sillyman roll in, you know it's going down right where it's at.
The visual style of this game is like the early 00s educational PC games like the JumpStart series, mashed with Cartoon Network shows from the same era. I absolutely love this "drawn in Paint with a mouse by a pro artist" look, I had no idea how badly I missed it until this game came out.
The team behind Pizza Tower itself even worked on Peppino in Rivals Of Aether!
Wario Land 4 was one of my childhood classics and most-played, so from the beginning of the gameplay footage I thought "this is eerily similar to that, but it's so niche it can't be". I'm feeling very validated right now hearing that it's a spiritual successor!
When I saw the trailer I was automatically hooked because of its wario land like gameplay. Not to mention the games art style is hilarious and bursting with emotion.
That comment about AAA games trying to go for what's marketable hit really hard. I played some AAA games with some new friends I made and holy fuck coming in from only playing indie games it really showed. It felt focus-tested to shit and a lot of stuff was crammed in that didn't need to be there. Like these games don't need to add add hunger, durability, RPG mechanics and grind.
And sometimes you'll get a game that's pretty good at its core but then they ruin it with extra bloat and BS like microtransactions.
BTW, if you're hungry for more, keep an eye on Antonblast later this year. While it's more in line with Wario Land 4, down to it's pixel art, it's a mix of Wario and Crash. Anton is also confirmed to have a Switch release as well, so keep an eye out for the Ninidie directs.
Eyyy you crazy? Hungry?? I ate so much damn pizza! Get outta heeeeeeea
More people should be looking at AntonBlast tbh. Pizza Tower is great though, I just wish it had better regional pricing on steam and potentially a Switch port later down the road.
@@dr_ubo eyyyy more people should be lookin upa my assa! Get this guy a PIZZA!
Man, he didn't mention how during the final boss's boss rush, Peppino goes completely berserk when confronted with the fact he'll have to fight all the bosses again. His patience has completely run out and the scared, nervous part of him is shoved into a corner as pure, unstoppable rage overtakes him, to the point where a single attack takes out half of a health bar.
I'm sure anyone who hasn't played it yet will think the video title is hyperbolic but it really isn't. Besides Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, I can't think of any upcoming indie platformers this year that stand a chance against Peppino Spaghetti. Funny little review!
Hollow knight silksong will take it most likely, but this game is very hype in the meantime
@@carldablob324 I feel like Hollow Knight is more focused on exploration and boss fights than it is on platforming though. Pizza Tower handles it’s platforming better with its more focused level designs and a moveset centered around speed.
@Grape still more likely to get indie goty
@@carldablob324 well yea because it’s a sequel to a far more popular game. That’s why we gotta raise awareness for original games like Pizza Tower so they don’t get overshadowed
@@grape448 no the reason is that, while both games compete in their own oversaturated markets, platformers are often viewed as games that are not worth the purchase because they do not bring anything new to the table. Of course this is not the case for Pizza Tower, but it's very rare that you find a platformer that's worth your time. Imo before this game the most recent great platformer was Celeste and that came out 6 years ago
"I wont talk past the third boss"
The fourth boss literally standing there in the end cutscene
He put a spoiler warning before talking about the ending.
Talking about the game's soundtrack, EVEN THE MUSIC FROM THE OLD DEMOS IS GODLIKE
One detail I love? The animations. Peppino’s are so detailed! Like when you’re trying to quick turn but wind up drifting off a ledge. He actually looks down in worry as he falls still in the drifting position.
the creator put alot of passion in it

S Rank only requires you to get a certain score in a level, so for the first level it's 16000 with later levels having a similar cap. P Rank is where the need to grab the collectibles comes into play, as the toppins, secret areas, and treasures are required prior to getting the Lap 2 portal.
It stated its to be created back in my freshman year, (2018,) I have followed it throughout my high-school career and the year after I graduated it is finally out, no longer a demo. This is an amazing game, buy it buy it now!
Its like if old cartoons were pixel art and I love it (It also reminds me of Sir Pelo's art but pixelated)
THIS is a fucking video game right here. THIS is ART made with such love and detail and absolute beautiful piece of work
Just beat it today. I've waited so long, and it was worth it.
Peppino is a real italian name.
It's also traditional in Italy to be named after food, or for foods to be named after people. You could name any Italian dish you could think of and there's guaranteed to be hundreds if not thousands of people in Italy with it as their first or last name.
In other words, if you walked into Italy and introduced yourself as Peppino Spaghetti, literally no one would bat an eye.
I love when someone takes a concept of a gameplay style and not just make their own game out of it but expand on it too. this game does that to wario land... now all I need is a reimagining of ristar and my wishes would be complete
I remember seeing this game in development a few years ago. It has so much passion in it, and I wish we had more games like it.
Seeing Foekoe playing this while constantly being called IGN was funny as hell to me and I don’t know why.
It’s even funnier that IGN guy that did play the game was actually good at it
Pizza tower not only lived up to my expectations, but surpassed them, i was blasted away from how much the game has changed, and how much content and abilities there are, and beautifully crafted soundtrack. Pizza tower had so much love and tomato sauce poured into it and like you said, not many triple A games give off that feeling anymore, you can tell they really took their time putting the game together and just having a blast, 10 pepperoni's out of 10. My 4 year wait was worth it.
🤌🤌🤌🤌
Playing an artisan-crafted indie like Pizza Tower after playing AAA games feels like eating at a bunch of corporate big chain pizza restaurants that are ok enough... and then finding that humble local joint, with a man of proper Italian blood like Peppino, who has made pizza all his life with love and dedication.
And then you know. Then you know what true Italian pizza and a genuinely great and fulfilling meal is supposed to be.
2023 seems really good for gaming so far. DS remake, Hi-Fi Rush, upcoming RE4 remake and SF6. And smaller indie gems like this. Not my type of game, but really cool to see.

I'm MC PIGS stream where he made the P rank screen, it title is P is for Peter
So cannonicly the P rank is the Peter rank
9:30 that’s not where the song originated from it was made long before that game and fell into public domain
I found out about the Tower of Italian delights from one of my favourite RUclipsrs, I forgot who. And Jesus Christ I'm so happy about it because one: over here in England it's only £15, and two it's one of the only games I have that I can just keep loading over and over again to do something new each time.
There's only one bad thing about it: the slightly mature humour when I'm watching gameplays on TV (TV RUclips baby) and my parents come in the moment a certain smelly level in floor 4 that is the only level door that requires you to use ine of it's mechanics to get to it.
*I think you know what I mean.*
And the music?
The music makes this thing 27 out of 10 stars.
*WOULD RECOMMEND.*
P ranks are *tough* to get. But it’s so satisfying to pull it off. I’ve been grabbing them, and am hooked on the challenge
7:53 let's not forget about my favorite level theme:
FUCKING *WAR*
Holy shit, the game is out? I know my next irresponsible purchase!
don't worry boss, I feel guilty about almost every game I buy, this isn't one. this one goes in the same category as hollow knight, hades, and portal
I recently played through this game and I really enjoyed it! Coming from someone who didn't really like Wario Land 4, I feel like it fixed the problems that game had. The main collectibles needed for progression are a lot easier to find and the escapes felt genuinely fun compared to Wario Land 4 where I felt frustrated every time it came up.
My biggest issue with the game though is the Jumpscares they put into the game. There's two points where there are jumpscares, on the title screen as an easter egg, and an end game level. The easter egg one seems like it's just a haha funny easter egg, but I also know there's been quite a few people who have had it happen while they were trying to set up the game or their controller and got a bad first impression from it considering it also crashes your game. The other level with Jumpscares isn't as bad, but it can get annoying pretty quickly. Going into a silly platformer and getting jumpscared without any prior warning dosen't feel good. I genuienly wish there was some kind of warning that the game has them in the first place, or some way to turn them off. Yes, this bothered me that much.
Besides that, this game's great though!
BOO
@@thatitalianlameguy2235 It’s valid tho
@@claudiogomez2816 but boo
What's the jumpscare for the end level? I knew about the title screen but i haven't played it and i hate jumpscares so a warning and heads up would be nice.
@@jorgemtzb9359 that one end game level with the jumpscares arent scary its just that the monsters chasing you is scary
I love the art style. Reminds me of old caricatures I used to draw in paint on Windows XP. Good times.
It convinced me. Probably will nver play, but may but just to support the developers.
Those indie games deserve so much praise.
My go-to description of this game for anyone interested is “it’s a little bit of Wario Land 4, a little bit of Sonic CD, a little bit of Super Metroid, a little bit of Earthworm Jim, a little bit of Jazz Jackrabbit, with a healthy dose of a visual mix of Ren & Stimpy, Rocky’s Modern Life, Courage the Cowardly Dog and Newgrounds”. The game really does define description sometimes, and it really is more than just a spiritual successor to Wario Land 4 (which it also is, just more to it).
This game looks hilarious! Shocked I haven't heard of it before. Great review!
2:04 “Look Gary, there I am”
"if you hurt peppino too much times you can go to hell" - Talking Pizza
It also has a drop of "Tamale Loco" (another 2D platformer) where you need 1 of each specific ingredient for your food (Burrito).
The animations remind me of Pilot Red Sun
So far, this year's off to a pretty great start. We got Hi-Fi Rush, an awesome remake of Dead Space, this, and Nintendo shadow dropped Metroid Prime Remastered at their last direct. It's certainly better than last year where it felt like after Elden Ring, there wasn't much that grabbed my attention (before you mention GoW, I don't have a PS5. I'll play it when it hits PC).
I mean a couple things that can be done later on is to bring the Noise back in as a playable character, introduce a couple DLC floors where one is more levels of Gustavo and Brick and another uses the special guest trend to make more gimmicks based on obscure or indie games
The artstyle feels so much like a cartoon from marc du pontavice, and the high-speed wackiness of it feels like how I remember my first sonic game.
"...it's more like hi-fi.. ms paint... rockos modern life"
i dunno how you did it but you exactly summed pizza tower up in those words
got it so hard i had to sub
The pizza puns
*Chefs Kiss*
I haven’t finished the video yet but when you mentioned how to have to run back to the start of the final level before the pizza man wakes up, I realized that it’s a homage to warios land shake it where every level, you get to a certain point and run back to the start before the timer runs out and you have to start back from the checkpoint.
“Adorable rats” fucking throws a bomb at one
8:30 pointing out that the reason why that TV is there is because the main antagonist is there to laught and mock at your suffering, the hovering TV is there to laught at pepino's reactions
There's a lull Easter egg on me the end sequin on the end thing you can I know you can see pizzahead but you can also see fake Peppino just crawling on the wall
The spiderman pizza song was inspired by an song composed irl by a guy named Peppino Turco
Back in the day when you could play as the noise.
okay grandpa, lets get you back to bed
Just wait a few months, he'll be playable again.
I gotta check this one out. The wall running is giving me Buster Busts Loose vibes.
i always wondered what the preview image of the fourth boss in the opening would've been without being cloaked in shadow
You can see it if you beat that boss, and then go for the fight again :)
I love how smooth the animations are. Hope this releases on more platforms.
You don't have to get all three secrets for an s rank, you just need a high enough score. In John Gutter, you don't have to get the third secret to get an s rank, you do need to do everything while keeping a combo for a P rank though
5:24 it probably is actually both. Have not played the game, but from the other ranks having 2 words usually, it seems like it is suppose to say "Pizza Perfect" and that just fits in this theme.
My only negative thing about this game that comes to mind is that the Dash (or Sprint) button moves you in the direction you are facing. It's unecessary. I messed up so many times because of that. You should dash only when you press the Dash button AND a direction to sprint in that direction.
his transition from being scared to homicidal maniac as you build a combo is pretty funny
The going up and down mechanic reminds me of big tower tiny square
I would actually add a slight correction in regards to the style, it does seem like it mimics old games, specifically many edutainment games of old.
You forgot to state that peppino has a gun
I hope GDQ did a run of this in summer cause I really want to see the speedrun with an audience
The song in the tutorial is actually a reference to famous Italian song "Funiculì Funiculà".

im so happy for pizza tower now that its out It’s getting what it deserves
My best way to describe pizza towers artstyle would be a 90s fast food kids menu
I wholeheartedly agree with everything said in this video, ten times over even. Let's make sure this game gets remembered around the time of awards season, it deserves that kind of recognition!
I also love that with the debug menu you can play as the 3 boss
AND I LOVE IT SO SOOOOO MUCH
It so fun to see wat different here to see wat change here
And wat isn’t done

This games gives the same vibes as another game made by Maddy, who made Celeste, called Runman.
When this game was a demo around the 2018-2019 Sage point, It was FILLED to the brim with creativity &collectives couldn't wait for full release even if I forgot about it from then Past months!
I like how Funiculì Funiculà has become "that spiderman 2 song"
Pepino is both timid and meek and psychotic and badass
MatPat is going crazy with the Lore of Pizza tower
cool video! small correction, but S rank isnt the highest, nor is it gotten by doing everything, its a point target like the others, roughly double of A's required points. P rank is the actual highest, which requires doing everything _and_ keeping a single combo through the entire level
And now it has a chance to officially be crowned as such. Make it happen.
Oh how this poorly aged
Community votes only counted 10% towards the final result
I can understand that, it wasn't supposed to be a popularity contest anyway
this (sadly) did not age well
Wacky Wario vibes + Sonic speed + Metroid exploration
watched cybershell play this, got me psyched buy it and give it a go
So far? Absolutely. Would wait for Silksong tho to make any assumptions
Hint to the 4th boss: its something youve seen the whole game but diferent
That can also be said for the second
Boss 4 be like me: You want fun? Wario will show you fun!
dont forget though its not fully completed too some playable characters arent finished yet
I'd say it looks more "old MAD cartoon" than Rocko's modern life to me
Damn, it's like a crazier version of dustforce
I have literally NEVER heard anyone mention Mort the chicken, I loved that game so much as a kid and ngl it still holds up surprisingly well. the devs have my immense respect
I've never played it but I watched the cutscenes and they're fuckin hilarious
