    100% agree.
Long time tinnitus explorer here. Went down the same route multiple times in the beginning. I also have OCD and this has taught me a lot of thing about suffering in relation to mental health.
The problem is not the tinnitus itself, but your relationship to it. When we revolt or disgust when we detect ringing in our ears we teach the brain that this is an experience we don't want to have. The brain will then, very helpfully, constantly remind us that this bad experience is something we need to avoid or get rid of - and that is where the suffering comes from.
The more you chase a feeling or an experience (or the lack of an experience) the more you choose to experience the opposite.

My main fear with tinnitus (that I have) is that it's going to be detrimental to my mental abilities, potentially lead me to early dementia, basically make me incapable of thinking. Secondly, I happen to be a musician, not professionally, but the fear is also that I won't be able to play anymore, and do even occasional gigs, because it's going to worsen my tinnitus.
So, I started wearing custom made earplugs, bought foam earplugs as well, and I keep them at hand in all circumstances. I also bought an ear defender for potentially loud activities (but really just vacuuming). One of the hardest thing is I did stop going to concerts, and I'm now scared of going to bars/pubs. I start doubting I'll ever have a normal social life again. The stories you read on the internet are just scary as hell, and I started to think that this is too much of a risk. So yeah, I started avoiding a lot of things...
I had no idea that there could be a connection between OCD and tinnitus. I just recently became aware that I may have OCD, and I guess tinnitus emerged roughly at the time of that realization (+after a loud concert). I will look a bit deeper into this, ie see if strategies used for OCD can help with tinnitus.
On the other hand, it seems that you are criticising a lot of strategies that are generally put forward against tinnitus. In fact, you are directly calling them wrong. I don't know if that means I will have to "pick a side", but for now... I still think you should wear those earplugs at festivals ;-)

There are different levels of “Tinnitus” and everyone’s reaction to it is different. Though I agree mostly what this video is suggesting (belief systems) …. The creator has NO idea what he’s asking for by not taking precautions. I wrote in more detail in my main comment what I’ve been through … but at one time I also thought I was hit by something that we all call “tinnitus”. Single tone , easily ignored , had no bearing on life. After a notoriously ototoxic medication was given to me 5 years ago by IV …. I’ve been dealing with catastrophic tinnitus , vertigo , and hyperacusis. I would literally kill to have again what I once thought was “tinnitus”. Take care of yourself

I was diagnosed with OCD less than a month ago, and I have started developing tinnitus in that same time. This video was so illuminating for me (as are so many others on this channel). Thank you all for the work you put in and share. I look forward to learning more from you all

I had OCD since my 20's (I'm 35 now) of different types including some days of sensory motor with breathing mostly. At some point I also developed tinnitus when I was in my early 20's - I remember obsessing about it for a while and sleeping with a fan but I think life just got very busy and I was younger and somehow I got over it well. I really struggled with OCD at that time of other themes so perhaps this helped me get over the tinnitus and I essentially forgot about it. I managed to get the majority of my OCD as well and have been doing well for many years. However in summer 2021 I had agonized with getting the COVID vaccine and eventually decided to do it. I had a lot of anxiety after the vaccine thinking that something might happen to me and low and behold about 5 weeks after my second dose I developed or noticed tinnitus in the middle of the night. Initially I didn't freak out but after some weeks I started noticing it more and more and the anxiety crept up. It's been about 6 months and while overall I'm on the right track, I still frequently find myself displaying what I know to be classic OCD reassurance seeking - for example I've watched your video already 3 or 4 times and many many many other similar videos every day. I know I need to stop these behaviors - but find it hard to do so. The fear of being bothered by the noise forever is very real and therefore the seeking reassurance. Whenever I'm bothered by the sounds, I don't mask them but I watch positive videos over and over again. I'm not sure if this is helpful in my situation with my history of OCD.

This is an interesting video. I bounce around from sensorimotor OCD to tinnitus. My brain stays stuck on one or the other, sometimes all of the above.

Hey Ben. Yep! That's the exact reason I made this video. Unfortunately tinnitus fears persist just like sensorimotor. The sound isn't the primary problem, our belief about it is.

Debilitating tinnitus now for almost 5 years. For the 3 years prior I had tinnitus but it was a single tone and was essentially non existent , easy to habituate too. After a run in with a hospital in Long Island, NY they hit me with a severely ototoxic antibiotic IV (despite them being informed of my prior tinnitus) and I’ve been in tinnitus hell ever since. Multiple multiple oscillating sounds in each ear , vertigo , severe painful hyperacusis. Just writing this as a cautionary tale. Never outright trust ANY health care provider when it comes to prescribed medications. Do your own research …. Look up the med name WITH the word “tinnitus”. Not just “side effects” …. Because they’ll all list tinnitus is a “rare” side effect and that applies to normal people. If you already have tinnitus … you’re already damaged. Be smart … I wish I was. Take care. Thanks for vid
