How he loved and lived and acted. Man, he just doesn’t get enough credit; not as enough as he should. He’s right, he always way; he truly built this genre. Well he had to be adopted by a white family when he was 12 because the black community bullied him for being gay and effeminate. Even today, most black gays stay in the closet. His white family encouraged and provided piano lessons that lead to him becoming Little Richard.
@@bholaoates1542 how would he make it political? ...just being himself is, arguably, political. It's made political by people that have a problem with individuality or racial difference.
He just fluffed off the "Little Dick" comment that Cavett made. Richard probably heard it before, lol. Yeah, gender-bending didn't go full mainstream until Boy George a decade after this. But Little Richard pioneered it.
The bronze Liberace... I think Little Richard was a lot more than that but both were amazing performers and wonderful people to the ones they loved which includes their audience. God bless them!
They can say what they want about Little Richard but the bottom line is he is one of the pioneers of rock and roll and a lot of the European bands learn and took some of his ideas from him and became Mega Stars!!
This point in music history; Little Richard on Dick Cavett show, December 1970-- After some success with then-new material from Fats Domino (having a hit single of The Beatles' "Lady Madonna" in 1968), Reprise Records also signed Little Richard to make a few 'modern-sounding' original albums. Where Fats only had an updated sound, Little Richard had completely evolved into a 'modern rocker'. Everything from his music and looks to his outrageous charisma was turned up to 11. This change was at the start of theatrical and glam rock. Many bands that went glam by 1972 were already recording and trying to find their identities, so Richard was well ahead of the game. At the time of this interview, Little Richard was touring his first Reprise album "The Rill Thing", and working on his next LP "The King Of Rock And Roll". ALL of his Reprise LPs are soulful, rocking, DEEPLY funky, gritty, bluesy and entertaining, from start to finish. Let's hope for remasters of Little Richard's Reprise albums!!!!

I notice Little Richard was to much for the host. Little Richard is fire🔥. When he said he was Indian the host again didn't have anything to say. I am so proud of Little Richard for always standing in his true authentic self. Rest in Power
I'm almost certain that the Nielsen Ratings shot through the roof exponentially when Little Richard was interviewed on The Dick Cavett Show. I believe his was the daytime television equivalent counterpart to The Johnny Carson Show with big name star appearances and ranking popularity.
Little Richard was a real rock n' roll icon and trailblazer, but like a lot of supreme musicians he was totally full of himself. He talks a lot about how much he inspired others, but I rarely see interviews where he mentions Esquerita, a musician who no doubt influenced him tremendously. RIP
Cavett did a brilliant job. Witty. Funny. Little Richard was really a very sweet person in a tough business. The other guy was very relaxed and dealt with this with great style.
Cavett didn't seem to enjoy Richard's unique personality, but then again... was there someone he actually liked? 😐 Little Richard was a true Rock Star.❤
Now THAT is entertainment. I never clicked at how femme Little Richard was running things, like a bronze American Bowie before Bowie. And a comic funnier than most of the time - certainly more interesting than Liberace. I was only born a year after this aired.
Natural born entertainer, 100% American treasure.
You see the man sweating so hard? You see that? Looks like a tear? Is he sweating??
Maybe his giant clothes, or the room is too hot for the clothes.

The word legend doesn’t do him justice, his influence on entertainment and music is still being felt today.
Why didn’t the frickin comedy gods give Little Richard a one off comedy special? He would hv brought in millions of fans.
I don't know much about Little Richard, but I'm very thankful he existed and did what he did!

The Bronze Liberace.
Richard was great in part because he could poke fun at himself.
WAS VERY HARD FOR HIM
Little Richard has one of the best legacies in music history. He will always be missed
I love how he never took himself seriously and this guy can actually claim to be the true king of rock n roll
True, he was the original King of Rock N Roll. And, he could sing. RIP Little Richard.
it takes alot of balls to just be who you wont to be especially in those days ,what a cool guy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You’re definitely right. He did do a lot of drugs though. I’m guessing he was high a lot of the time.
Little Richard was a sweet lovley man

crossing the boundaries of gender in 50s, was courage for him. he had to face a lot of rejection from black people too for this
No kidding. So much respect for him!
A lot of black people also *accepted* him for who he was, partly because he didn't try to politicize it.
