A really focused delivery for those desperate to learn how it's done. Thanks
Thanks
Boom and it works
Well done, Handy Smurf.
Nice job Sasha, and basic alternators are surprisingly inexpensive. Have the old one reconditioned so that you will always have a spare, it's not something you can do without. Love you, Tony.
The new one cost me around £55 so it was a pretty cheap repair.
@@SashasNarrowboatLife yes, but, that's money saved next time and learning how to rebuild it yourself would make a nice video. I rebuilt one a long time ago and never had the chance to do it again. Don't want to either.
But darn young lady! You looked a tad bit cramped in that engine room! How tall are you or is it posted somewhere? TBH I'm glad I decided to go RV as soon as I get my Minnie Winnie repaired. Apartment living bites! Lol And I'm stuck on if I should toad my 4x4 pickup truck or store it?
Blue skies and safe journeys!
I had an oil leak that was fixed 2 years ago. The old alternator was insanely dirty and for how cheap a new unit was it just wasn't worth rebuilding it although rebuilding and alternator does sound like an interesting challenge.
Great Vlog Sasha. Finally got round to catching up. ❤️
Thank you
Thanks Sasha. Great vlog. You're a good engineer and teacher. Keep them coming
Thank you. A long time ago I was watching wheeler dealers and something I saw helped me when my car broke down. I hope that my videos will help someone by giving them the knowledge they need to get going again.
Add auto electrician to your ever expanding CV. Well done Sasha.
Very well done👍
good job keep up the good vid thanks lee
Nice job...sure makes that replacement more affordable when you DIY!
Yes I guarantee you'd be charged at least 2 hours labor on top of a marked up price part. It makes the £55 I paid quite good. Not to mention the knowledge I gained about my boat.
Hi Sasha great job changing your alternator just a little thing I notice the main live cable is too small for a alternator of that power you need too either replace it with a thicker cable or fit a second cable to boost its efficiency
What side cable would you recommend for a 75amp alternator to be most efficient?
Crikey most people would test the alternator before buying a new one!
It never output more than 13v the whole time I had it. It was also not that expensive to buy a new one so I thought it was worth a shot.
Sasha, what voltage are your batteries receiving from the alternator? Assuming that it’s a 12v system, then I would expect to see approximately 14 to 14.5v as measured at the battery terminals. I have had issues with one of my motorcycles not charging correctly, it actually turned out to be the regulator unit that was faulty. I replaced this with an updated regulator unit and things have been fine.
It was recieving about 13.5-13.8 since replacing it's around 14.4 where it should be so it looks like all is fixed. 🔧👍
@@SashasNarrowboatLife Thats good news Sasha…. but give me a mechanical fault over an electrical one any day! 🎄🎄
I couldn't agree more. a couple of months ago I added a usb socket to my boat and when I turned the isolation key on nothing worked at all. That was followed by a few hours of panic trying to figure out what I did to break everything. turned out to be a loose wire on the battery terminal that I hadn't touched
nicely done, did it fix your charging problem?
Yes it seems to be working great now. I did mean to say this in the video but it looks like I forgot. Oops.
@@SashasNarrowboatLife That is the sort of thing I do miss bits out and not realise until it is uploaded.
Did you find the new alternator put more charge in the batteries?
Yes it puts considerably more power in to the batteries.
@@SashasNarrowboatLife great news did you find another alternator easy enough as I can't find the name of mine so struggling to find one?
Yes it was pretty easy I bought it online. I think this is is one I got amzn.to/31P5A2l
Has it made a difference to the charging
Very much so. Charging time has about halved and it also and it also charges them properly as the old one was only outputting 13.8v as opposed to the new ones 14.4
