  • Recorded on the great Cavaillé-Coll organ in St-Ouen Abbey in Rouen in 2007 by Transatlantic Productions.
•●The Official Video Site of Concert Organist Xaver Varnus●•
Xaver Varnus' first piano teacher was Emma Németh, one of the last pupils of Debussy. He has played virtually every important organ in the world, including those in Bach's Thomaskirche in Leipzig (2014), Berliner Dom (2013), Notre-Dame (1981), Saint-Sulpice (2006) and Saint-Eustache (1996) in Paris, National Shrine in Washington, D.C. (1985), and Canterbury Cathedral (2004), as well as the largest existing instrument in the world, the Wanamaker Organ in Philadelphia (1985). His Quadruple Platinum Disc winning album From Ravel to Vangelis (SONY, 2007), is the best-selling organ CD ever. As a Canadian citizen, Xaver Varnus resides in Berlin and Toronto. "Put simply, Varnus is a monster talent, every bit as stimulating and individual as the late Glenn Gould" (The Globe & Mail, Canada's National Newspaper). "He is one of the most influential figure in organ music in the early twenty-first century." (Mark Wigmore, The New Classical FM, Canada).

Xaver Varnus macht mit der Orgel das, was Celibidache mit dem Orchester macht - er erlaubt der Musik ihre ganze Groesse und Tiefe zu zeigen. Seine Interpretaionen sind mir ein grosses Vorbild.

The thing I absolutely love about Bach, is his music can go from the most beautiful to the most dramatic and powerful, thanking you ❤️💙💚

Whatever arrangement this is, is amazing. The sharp contrast between the sorow filled beginning and the outburst of passion and emotion is so strong. It hits right in the heart and brings fourth so much emotion. I adore this piece in every way possible

Grandioso! This romantic/symphonic instrument is indeed very well suited for this music - though it sounds pretty different than on a German baroque organ. Love it 🥰

I too play the pipe organ and absolutely love playing Komm Susser Tod, (Come Sweet Death). I just wish it was written longer like Bach's Chorales 1, 2 and 3.😃

Virgil Fox's version starts out with a single note, adding more notes until the full introduction chord is there. And it proceeds with a lot more details, and is played slower. Bach's version is mostly only the chord progressions without added details 🙂
