Jack was in the Army Corps of Engineers in WW2. I wonder if there are any photos posted of him from that time? I'll go have a look.

The old Five0 never mentioned McGarrett as a Navy SEAL, but the current one did in Season 1.
He was in Naval Intelligence. Not a SEAL in the original.
In the first 5-0, Syeve was a Lt. Commander buy was in intelligence and the new one, he is the same rank but a navy seal

This is the first of a few shows where McGarrett appears in a U.S. Navy uniform. Check his insignia; it is of a Lieutenant Commander. The new Five-O would make more extensive use of McGarrett's rank and his connections.
Actually, he's wearing the insignia of a lieutenant. I think Steve would look a bit long in the tooth for that rank.
They just showed this whole episode Friday on Heroes and Icons Channel.
