I did my 3800 sc swap to 85 GT this year. Great thing, but requires some upgrades with suspension and gearbox. Just don't forget about grounding Two wires which will allow you to use full power. Ecm must think that it is on Drive
What should I be looking for when buying a used one that is already swapped? I'm a bit concerned that no matter what service the engine may need, it will require the engine to be removed completely to service it, even for simple things like spark plugs.
@@StevenGilbert88you could use a 3900 V6 and swap the 3400 LNJ cam and sprocket to delete the vvt. These engines have immense potential, I've seen some getting over 500hp on boost with stock internals
I always thought the notchback version looked better than the fastback. I have my eye on an 1986 with a Cadillac 4.9 HT swapped in as opposed to a 3800. Per the owner, bigger the engine, more displacement and as they say "no replacement for displacement"
The only problem with that is weight distribution. The heavier the engine the worse it will handle, so if all you want is a straight line drag car then fine. If you want to be fast around a track or safe taking corners fast, watch out, better check to see how much weight that added to the rear and see if you can put up with it before buying it.
No, it’s running custom headers that I mistakenly ordered with an EGR port, and on top of that, the port was the wrong size for the 3800 EGR tube anyways. I ended up sawing off the bendy EGR tube from the motor, and repurposed the little mounting plate/screw to hold a nickel over the EGR port on the headers as a sort of block-off. Seems to be holding well so far!
You've got some issues to iron out in that transmission. Either your clutch cable needs adjusting,... Or, your transmission's synchronizers are shot. Then again, it simply could be just user error. I couldn't tell your level of skill driving a stick-shift with any level of certainty from this video. What I did notice though. You're very fidgety with the gears. Shifting way too soon and often. Very nervous and unsure shifting.
Yeah I was impatient to drive it, but the lateral shift cable is siezed. Ordering a replacement soon. Looking into a short shifter as well if possible. The transmission is actually pretty solid, only 47k original miles on it actually!
Alot of people out there will watch this video and become inspired by what you have. This, subsequently, will inspire them to the same goal. Others will watch this video and become evious, leading them to over-the top critiques were they assume they could have done better. In other words, STFU shane8915. This guy would shame you at the strip.
A tko transmission and gear shift would have been better. And the driver stop putting in 3rd with no gas. That's why he grinder. He kept wanting to skip 3rd for 4th cause he don't know how to watch rpm's.
If the car has the getrag 5 speed, it came with the 2.8 v6, 140hp, not 92. I think most people wouldn't have any issues with swapping the iron Duke out!
2:09 Some say, he is still trying to find 3rd gear to this day ...
Hahaha we actually changed the shift select cable and now 3rd is clear as day!
When you put on ear protection to test drive, you know the neighbors are going to love you.
Shockingly they still don’t hate me lol, lucked out with that one
It's on because those engines sound like crap lol
Fast as he'll but it's hard to make them sound good

I'm 90 % finished with my swap, waiting on flywheel, what wires need to be attached to what? Or can hptuners mod it

Jimbob you can change sparkplugs no problem with the motor in place. A little tight but just like any other car.
Fieros are cool.
Especially the new ones.
They call them Corvette now. And they have a V-8.
That’s awesome! Sounds amazing!!! Looks really fun to drive too
Congrats. This thing sounds awesome! Should he a solid ripper!
Currently I have a straight piped 2.8 and every time I start it my neighbors car alarm goes off they hate me .. just wait till I do the 3.8 swap
This thing sounds insane
Like an old V6 pickup truck. 👎. I hope he can get in a good exhaust system
Had the same one but stock, it's a great car. 👍
i have a 43k mile 3800 stuck in a rusty MC SS, man i wanna do something like this
OR an LS4
Looked into LS4, would have been so sick but the L67 was easy to find and relatively a TON easier to swap in
@@bwiren13yeah on the LS4 you'd have to get a active fuel management deactivation kit

Sounds like a V8 till you really get on it lol, then it sounds like my '96 Camaro 3.8 non SC
AWESOME!!! GREAT WORK sir!!
What state is this, it looks beautiful!
Oregon!

Just got mine going! What all mods do you have sounds pretty decent! Do they just inherently make a exhaust tick

Posted a couple shorts of mine up.. Working to get more vids done after I finish rebuilding suspension @@bwiren13
Definately fix that shifter!
What transmission are you using and who did you have balance your flywheel?
Using stock Getrag 5-speed manual and a custom Spec billet lightweight flywheel with a Spec 3+ clutch
W neighbours ❤
What ECU did you have to run to use a manual with the 3800?
Just a tuned ‘98 GTP ECU that came with the motor and a full harness!
Should be more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Need to massage the shift linkage a bit.
Ended up replacing the shift selector cable, sat too close to the exhaust and seized up unfortunately
There's always a few wrinkles when you do an engine swap of any flavor.

Why didn't you put an LS in it? It's super easy considering what the size of the car is.
Because we didn’t!

That's some of the most horrifying use of a stick shift I've ever seen
Good eye!

Lfgggg that’s sick
You should have put a 4.8 or a 5.3 LS in it
LS is always the answer. We actually are planning to Tesla swap it if it blows up.

If you knew the Getrag 282's gearing, you'd understand why a 3800 SC in a FIERO made you talking nonsense
He can't watch rpms if the gauge isn't hooked up.
True haha although it is now working. And the gear shifting issue was due to a siezed cable which has also since been replaced, shifts great now.
