Chaos Path Thank you so much! I was intending to do that, but I didn't have the file easily accessible (and I'm editing other shows pretty much every waking moment.)
Chaos Path They had fun with the idea that they couldn't do Bobby Brown (and a bunch of other Zappa songs - lotsa children and grandparents in that audience.)
What is so incredible about Frank's music is that beyond the musicality and difficulty of the songs, everybody's really enjoying and laughing out loud, musicians and crowd alike. Why o why wasn't there a school of rock in my days down in France ? You guys are really lucky to have such a school and dedicated teachers. Kudos all !
Glad you dug it. Frank's music is, and always has been, the foundation of the _School of Rock_ program, and all of the best musicians in the program aspire to be able to play it.
Zappa has been the pinnacle of the School of Rock program since it was founded. Seek out the documentary "Rock School" (not the fictional Jack Black movie) and you'll see a group of his first class of students playing Zappanale, and getting a standing ovation led by Napoleon Murphy Brock.
Man that was flippin good. Those young adults rock! They are blessed with the love of music, plus they are blessed with an immersion in Zappa. Hard work and well done!
This is pure awesomeness!! These kids are absolutely incredible! What a way to pay tribute to one of the most iconic and brilliant musicians in the history of music! This here proves that the music of Frank Zappa is timeless.
A little late in 2021, but this was awesome. What makes this so great, is how much fun it looked like everyone was having. Like this wasn't just some assignment but something they were really into. No, having stood 50' from the stage watching Frank and his band play, I can say this wasn't perfect, but so what!! Just the fact they chose to tackle it and did it as well as they did is amazing!
I'm so glad you dug it. Frank's music is, and always has been, the pinnacle... the gold standard of the _School of Rock_ program, the music that all the best players in the program aspire to be able to play. The program was started by a Zappa fanatic named Paul Green, and if you get a chance seek out the documentary _Rock School._ Paul started his school long before the Jack Black movie, and in it he takes a group of his best musicians to Germany to play _Zappanale_ and they get a standing ovation led by Napoleon Murphy Brock.
Sorry.... Have to post one more time. Holy Shit. Peaches and Montana. These Kids are Beyond Awesome and they Played Fantastic. I'm literally shedding tears of Pure joy watching this Vid.
One of the two directors of the show (it was so complicated that it took two) Jennifer Malone is a friend of mine and she's a huge Zappa fanatic. I was able to actually visit the school and record one of the last rehearsals before this show.
Frank Zappa's music is and always has been the foundation and the pinnacle of the School of Rock, the music that all the best musicians in the school aspire to be able to play.
gag me with a spoon! so there is really a School of Rock in the real world! it´s great to see that kids still dig music like this - here are the upcoming girls and boys of "Zappa plays Zappa"!!
Luisa Umlauf The real School of Rock predated the Jack Black movie, the Broadway show and the TV show by years, and Frank Zappa has always been the pinnacle of the program, the music all the kids aspire to be able to play.
No shit. Amazing. These kids did an amazing job and I have to thank the adults who promoted playing Frank's music. Say no to Drugs. Say YES to Zappa. LOL
Totally entertaining! They put "eYebR0wS" all OVER this - gives me hope for the future, seeing kids enjoying Zappa. Wotta talented bunch! Thanks for posting! ...deserves LOTS more views!
poopoopadoo69 Carter Scofield, the lead on Black Napkins, had another wack at it a week or so ago, and is even better. Check it out if you get a chance.
It hasn't escaped me that the girl playing guitar is wearing a dress and double pigtail like Frank wore on the We're Only In It For The Money album cover. That's giving it the "eyebrows" in a visual sense. Hotcha!
Read through some of the comments if you get a chance. One thing I liked to make sure everybody knows is that Frank's music, right from the very beginning, has been the foundation of the _School of Rock_ program. Paul Green, the guy who founded it, is a gigantic Zappa fanatic, and Zappa music is the music that all the best musicians in the program aspire to be able to play. If you can, seek out a documentary called _Rock School_ (not the Jack Black movie) and you'll see Paul take his best musicians all the way to Bad Doveron Germany to play Zappa music at the _Zappanale_ festival before a gathering of the biggest Zappa fanatics you'll find anywhere on the planet, and get a standing ovation led by Napoleon Murphy Brock.
I love this channel too but I get frustrated when a clip has bad sound. This historical stuff is important, and since it's all about music, then there should be a nice mix from the board to accompany the video. Lecture over.
I'd like to get better audio, but I'm limited to what is being produced by the sound engineer. The only way I could would be to get isolated tracks, and that has happened only once out of more than 300 shows.
Francis Vincent Zappa was a very underappreciated musical genius! Teenager's that have the talent and fortitude to tackle 90 minutes of F.V.Z. ,,,well,,frankly,, will succeed at much. Wish they could have gotten away with Dinah Moe Hum. I appreciated Miss Poke A. Dot. Actually the entire mob was brilliant! Thank you all.
If you get a chance, read through the comments where I have responded to other people. Right from the very beginning Frank Zappa has been the basis of the program - the music that all of the most talented and skilled kids aspire to be able to play. In this case, there was a whole bunch of the best kids about to graduate from the program at 18, so the teacher (who is a huge Zappa fan) came up with a program for them.
Please... his real name was Frank. Although even he thought his name was Francis, after his father. He learned in his 20s (probably when he got his first passport) that his name was, in fact, Frank.

It takes guts to do Zappa. With all the plays out there this was a good one.
