My entire life has been centered around cyberpunk.
Saw Blade Runner in the theater in 1982…
read Gibson’s Burning Chrome in my Omni Magazine subscription a month later…
Got hooked on cyberpunk anime (Bubblegum Crisis, Angel Cop, Gokuu Midnight Eye, Cyber City Odeo 808) when almost no one in America knew there was such a thing…
Got lucky enough to be stationed in SE asia during the dawn of >real< cyberpunk cities…
    Itaewon, Seoul 1990…
Tokyo and Hong Kong 1992 (even saw the Kowloon Walled city with my own eyes months before the world lost it forever)…
Saw the dawn of Manila as a high-tech metropolis when I took a hiatus in the early 2000s…
And now that I’m close to retirement, Im moving back to Asia to spend the rest of my days wandering the streets of all these sci-fi cities that were once the realm of fantasy in my youth.
Videos like this remind me of how incredible the world has become.
    Thank you.

Its funny how people point this out to be like Night City, as if Night City is a good thing.

    • @TomDrez
      @TomDrez Месяц назад +4

It sure isn't a good thing in cyberpunk. Night city is much less... how to say... refined than this, it's more rustic and the only things we see on screens on some faceade, are simply ads, there's clearly more than this here, there's art on display which can fuel all kind of emotions and inspirations, when it come to night city it's a mix of 80' design cyberpunk with the technology we know today. And it's a libertarian capitalist city, with no state to rule it, which couldn't be further away than what we see there. Aside from that it's a city as advanced and organized as any other european or american city (maybe more).

    • @jaywyse7150
      @jaywyse7150 25 дней назад

First - what is "Asia" exactly? If I recall, Pakistan, India, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, North Korea are all in Asia and they are not exactly the role models to follow in any way.
Second - Japan, S.Korea and China tend to spend crazy amount of money on fixing stuff they created in the first place. JP and SK at least benefit from the growth, even when in slow decline because China still has to tackle 3rd world problems like apocalyptic water and air pollution...but is already following bad demographic trends of the other Far-East nations. Also, China is starting to lose its cheap labour edge, which is visible in the amount of tens of millions unemployed or underemployed graduates...so far for quality education and healthcare.
Not that I defend the US model. From my european point of view it is bizarre how people can enjoy living in the modern USA but let's not romanticize other seriously flawed nations and states.

Vivid Sydney is once a year. But these light shows in China are on EVERY SINGLE NIGHT!!
There are 3 cities shown in the video. The first 2 cover basically the ENTIRE city CBD!
(Vivid Sydney is mainly just around the Circular Quay area)
The first city shown is Shenzhen. When I went there in 2018 (or 2017?), the light show even included massive lasers shooting out from the top of that tall building (with the triangular top) that you see on the right of the screen.
They've stopped the laser part but kept the mesmerizing lights 😊

There are 3 cities in China 🇨🇳 shown :
      1) The first one is Shenzhen.
      2) The 2nd one (next to the sea) I think is Qingdao.
      3) The 3rd one I'm not sure. Those 2 buildings look very familiar. (China has A LOT of glittering twin buildings!)

It's surprising you can't see that but ask if if was there or not. Doesn't take a traveler or rocket scientist to see those are mostly office's and not recreational type stores.

This is why I see Chinese people as the smartest people of the world. I mean compare Chinese cities with American cities. Not only that, China actually doesn't live in 2024 as we do. The probably live in 3040 if I'm not wrong. China's two neighbors are living in the past. India lives in 1944 and Korea lives in 114 if I'm not wrong. Visiting China was my childhood dream because the people are very friendly. The food is one of the best food I've ever eaten. Yesterday, I ate Beijing duck which is China's traditional food. 🇱🇺💖🇨🇳

Wait till you know that the average chinese person doesn't give a damn about geopolitics.
And besides, there are plenty of videos on RUclips of people visiting china and they all say it's very safe. I just say that we sometimes are predisposed to certain things or countries or whatever because of things we've heard or seen, but to really know for sure about those things we have to get first hand experience by ourselves.
Sorry for the long comment as i was expressing my thoughts, specially considering the recent geopolitical tensions between the us and china. Thanks for reading.

No-one is asking you to kiss them. But you can still go and see the place.
China is *A LOT* better than you've been led to believe.
My first visit was in the late 1990s. I ABSOLUTELY fell in love with the place.
I now go there every year since about more than 10 years ago.
      ------------
By the way, a very well-known hardcore anti-China guy from Taiwan earlier this year decided to go and see the real China.
And he basically hinted after the visit that he fell in love with the place !!! And he later even went back for a 2nd time!
(Unfortunately the poor guy was (and still is) attacked by his Taiwan fans who accused him of betrayal.)
