There is a special product that washes away the hair dye, especially if it was black, its called hair colour remover. So you should use the hair colour remover before bleaching or dying your hair

How did it go? I have black hair and I dyed it with Garnier Color Naturals 7.1 Ash Blonde and my hair turned out bownish. I liked the color actually. But the roots are so much lighter than the middle and the tips just like hers.

You should have used a hair colour remover. Then, bleach it.

The only shade I know that can lichten dark hair is L'Oréal 8.1.

It was during corona time so I didn’t do much. I tried to lighten more with vitamin c. my hair got patchy and then I got a shorter haircut.

Black is impossible to get out without the hair feeling like straw. I now use henna
Not ideal but can't do dyes anymore.
