Been using Spotify since 2016 (US account and connecting to VPN once in 15 days). A lot of these restrictions were there in US version before. When they launched in India, they relaxed all the restrictions.
True even I used to use Spotify US and UK version via VPN before it was launched in India.
And to my surprise when Spotify was launched in India it was completely free.
I'm used to US version so it doesn't hurt me now. Im completely fine with their new terms and conditions.
But I believe if ones wanna pay premium he/she should try Apple Music. It's really good and VFM.

There's an other side to it, even though spotify is the market leader in music streaming they haven't been able to make profit in fact they had a loss of 220 million euros in 2022 alone. The main reason is that they buy the rights for music from record labels mainly Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group. These three are a monopoly in the industry and spotify has no bargaining power against them other than accepting whatever terms and conditions they put forward that's why spotify is so aggressively promoting podcasts.The competition is also fierce so from a business standpoint they cant raise their prices because other players like Apple music and RUclips music have money to burn, they're backed by trillion dollar companies spotify is just one company. The same thing happened with Netflix that's why they started producing their own shows but the record labels had foreseen this so their contracts with spotify is in such a way that spotify can't make their own music.

Why do people even pay for shits which are basically free? Yt basically has almost all songs that Indians need. The only advantage for Spotify is that they have individual creators like yt who make their music but most of the own a yt channel anyways. I download Spotify 5 yrs ago I think and was not happy with it because of the annoying ad between songs not to mention the audio was mild compared to mps or yt or any other music

But think about the further loss when the current users leave the platform. Like RUclips, the company may get some money from ads. But if the number of users are less, then that's going to be a big problem. Then again, Android users might switch to mods and Apple users have Apple Music anyways,or other alternatives so this was a dumb way of getting profit.

All of us have both Amazon prime as well as spotify premium and set it to the highest available quality and checked/compared it across bluetooth speakers, earpods as well as phone speakers. Perceptually all songs sounded better in terms of quality, richness and output levels when played via Amazon music. But yeah if it works for you then well and good👍
