  • When the Sun Comes Out in Norwich
    Sung by Billy Steele
Words & Music by Peter Monk © 2012

When the sun comes out in Norwich
and the streets run bright with smile
And the Puppet Man is dancing
and entertaining the rank and file
When the stripes above the market
Draw the eye of shopper bees
and the gulls are circling back to join
the queue for pie and peas
I am at home, I am complete
I am as happy as anyone can be
When the sun comes out in Norwich
    Something warm comes over me
By the banks of River Wensum
'Cross the bridge at Carrow Road
    I am the Norwich faithful
on the ball and always so
With a voice of heart and fire
and a will to win the day
My blood Canary yellow 'til my
    Maker has his say
I am at home, I am complete
I am as happy as anyone can be
When the sun comes out in Norwich
    Something warm comes over me
As the pub begins to empty
and the pints are drained of cheer
    The drink in me awakens
    all my thoughts of yesteryear
And I look back across an ocean
    Some turmoil but mostly joy
and I'm now and ever grateful for that
    golden-footed boy
I am at home, I am complete
I am as happy as anyone can be
When the sun comes out in Norwich
    Something warm comes over me

Steele, a song from the heart. It is beautiful, a tribute to that "golden footed boy". I only knew the "golden knee" days. But I am pleased and proud to have known you. This is a life in a song.

My Dad is so pleased to see Billy again! He still talks about Billy's testimonial when he was the only City fan to get on the pitch. He will never forget the moment he put his scarf around your neck! Can you remember this too? Nice to see you're still involved within football! Keep up the good work!

Hey Norwich, Billy and his Toronto Lynx U15 Academy boys are back again for yet another visit to your fine city. They're playing Norwich FITC on Saturday March 8 at 11am, Dereham Town on Sunday March 9 at 11am, and the Norwich City Academy on Tuesday March 11 at 3pm. Please take in a match if you're able. Also, keep an eye out for Billy at Saturday's Norwich vs Stoke match. He'll be joining some former teammates on the pitch for a special tribute. Cheers!

Hello Norwich! It's become a sure sign of spring - Canadian lads from the Toronto Lynx Academy swopping down and picking clean the sports shop shelves of their end-of-season deals. Coach Billy Steele and his U15 charges are on their way back to experience football at its finest. They'll catch the Canaries in action and play two international friendlies of their own. First up, in their 5th annual meeting, is Norwich FITC on Saturday March 14. Kick off is 10:30 at Easton College pitch for any and all who are interested in attending. On Sunday the 15th, the boys will play Norwich United at Thorpe St Andrew School on Laundry Lane. Kick off is 2:30 pm. With any luck the sun will be out and the blisters aren't too bad. Cheers!
