Large-grid scale blocks in small-grid would help a lot; modders have done things like that for your community a while back(think the warsie Lancer frigate was one), large ships that are made of only a few huge blocks so they're performance-friendly, but I don't think I've seen anyone directly port a bunch of large grid blocks to small grid at large grid scale. Or, for that matter, making single-block replacements for common block configurations, ie a 5x5x1 small grid armour block, etc. Even a relative handful of such blocks in large and small grid could cut the block count of large ships to a fraction of what they currently have to be while still being versatile and keeping a similar sort of granular destruction. Always seemed odd that AFAICT noone's done that, tho I haven't had the time or spoons to play SE for a while.

@@Anuwabu Of course they've learned. You can see it from these trailers and new mechanics that are implements. All of that is feedback from years of this game's cycle. With SE, you really notice that it's dedication... Keep it up 👍🏻
I'm glad this engine brings more granularity to the building, I like what I see so far very much. I hope that you'll also bring the same amount of meticulous attention to detail when it comes to the user interface and experience. One of the main reasons why I burned out from my hundreds of hours of Space Engineers was the limitations of the block building interface, the quick bar etc. You'll have to bring your A-game to making the building interface as smooth and customizable as possible. This is turning into a legitimate engineering software disguised as a game at this point lol

I love building things like mining outposts. On SE servers u got that opportunity because of the voxel resets. But it’s difficult in single player, unless u mine stone or ice. Something like hardened ores that take a very long time to mine would be so cool! Something that you can confidently build a base on and just let it run, maybe with specialized drills that overheat or break down over time. Of course it shouldn’t be overpowered but it definitely should give a lot more then normal ore cluster. Anything that makes the mining process worth it and long enough to last there for quite some time.

That Is Amazing A feature like this looks like magic or a mod! Now all we need is blocks that allow us to build on what is basically subgrids that are not separate grids like it it with rotors and hinges right now. The ability to build angled surfaces without provoking the all mighty clang would make the tools we engineers have even more powerful!

I have mixed feeling about this: One the one hand, this is HUGE and will massively improve the the building of detail, solve the compound block issue etc. BUT it will make building (especially survival) extremely tedious when done wrong. I hope we can still build the old SE1 way until we need further detail. Also: diagonal catwalks, i want those.
I think you're able to switch between the little grid mode, and the block mode. If you look at the 0:05 you can see that the block is going from one large block to the other. I think you have to turn on the 25cm grid system. Or at the very least you can switch between the 25cm system and the grid system that's based on either the blocks you're placing down or the ones you're placing blocks down on.
Excelent comment: I think one lucky decision we made with SE in 2013 was 2.5m blocks as the basic unit (let's ignore small grid for now). This allow you to build very quickly, to get some workable ship within minutes. Compared to this, some other building games allow you to build almost with vertices, which looks nice, but it takes a month to build a ship. We definitelly don't want to break the balance of how fast you can build versus how much detail control you have. In this video you can see that we are building from 2.5m blocks (fast way) and then when we want, we switch to 25cm blocks and build with those.
@@MrMarekRosa exactly if this becomes an SE 2 style game the best thing would be to keep all the current large grid blocks found in SE for the quick building in the 2.5m scale and all the current small grid blocks for quick building in the 25cm scale. At the 25cm scale, you could put a 2.5m assembler on your cargo rover so you just need ingots when building an outpost away from base instead of having to worry about if you have the correct ratio of steel pates/construction components/interior plates or a 2.5m battery for extra power density compared the 25cm options. On the 2.5m scale, having same grid missile or small ship printing factories instead of how it's currently done with having some of it on a sub gird (this would probably also have a game performance and stability bonuses). so many of the things I do with sub grids would just become one grid, the ship detailing opportunities are just a bonus

Honestly, SE2 is going to be a visual masterpiece, if SE already has such immersive moments then i can't wait for the suspension of disbelief we'll get next. The lighting at the end with the asteroid reflecting off the base is awesome.
Game changer! Can't wait for this.
Now this will be amazing
