    This channel is about my love of the crossbow, hunting, and the outdoors. I hunt exclusively with the crossbow. I love it and I aim to help you love it, too!

    Bunjie (The O.B.) is a 2010 Excalibur Axiom Crossbow. After more than a decade of killing deer, hogs, squirrels, woodchucks, and even a bear, Bunjie is now semi-retired. Enter Bunjie III (or Bunjie '21, Bunjie 3.0, The Slick Black Cadillac of Crossbows) a 2021 Scorpyd Deathstalker 420, the result of trying various models and looking at dozens of them online for characteristics I liked. It is, in fact, a gift from a Friend of Bunjie, which goes to show how important Friends of Bunjie are to this channel and what an impact they can have. Bunjie III is a testament to modern crossbows, producing over .7 slugs of momentum and almost 140 ft-lbs of kinetic energy with stock arrows--at nearly 400 fps!
    Bunjie, Jr., is my daughter Genevieve's crossbow, an Excalibur Micro Suppressor 355. This crossbow was also a much appreciated gift from a Friend of Bunjie, and it changed Death by Bunjie forever by inspiring Genevieve to become a part of our story as a second-generation crossbow hunter, and it also convinced me there is a benefit to a newer, faster crossbow (see our 2020 Maryland Doe Hunt).
    Again, I am not sponsored by these companies. I am sponsored by Friends of Bunjie! (I'm not asking for gifts whatsoever--please don't feel like you should send me stuff! But I do appreciate the support I've received over the years! I'm just trying to express my appreciation for that.)
    This channel is the result of combining my interest in filming and hunting...and music, too! My related channel, Yankee Militia, showcases my music. Some of the music is hunting-related, so check that out, too! The soundtrack for this channel is provided by my band, so the two are intertwined. The albums "Live Free or Kill" and "Zombies Gotta Eat, Too!" are available on Amazon.com and elsewhere. A third album is in the works.

    Really appreciate all your advice, Rich! I jumped on the crossbow bandwagon as soon as my home state (Minnesota) changed the law this year. Happy to report that I got a clean 20-yard shot on a doe this past weekend with my Tenpoint Stealth 450, Burris Oracle X, and Swhacker 251's on Zombie Slayers! She didn't run far with that 3"+ Swhacker exit hole! I was brand new to crossbow hunting before this year, and your content has helped me become informed and successful.

    I only have shot 1 deer so far but the Sevr 150 that I used did excellent. The Rage and Swacker look like great alternatives too. I guess I will stick with what has worked unless until I see a reason to change. But I have zero doubt either of those heads will get the job done when the shot placement is where it needs to be.

    I went to the moon with purchasing Swhacker 100gn and 125gn broad heads last income tax season. I purchased 7 packs of both sizes. I did it because I knew the following years would bring on higher prices. I didn't purchase any of the 150gn ones because they put my arrow weight too high. And my crossbow doesn't like heavy arrows. The SWAT Broadhead has the two blades in front that open on impact. They’re 2” of cut. Once the head passes the ribs, the rear blades open inside at 1.75 inches of cut. The rear blades are on a different axis.
    Two blades going in and four coming out. Because the ferule is shaped much like a bullet, they fly very accurately.
    They are rated for unlimited speed.

    I haven't shot any Swhackers, but from a design standpoint it seems like they would be superior to the Rage or any mechanical head that opens on impact. When those Rage style broadheads start to open on impact, if you aren't perfectly broadside, and one blade opens before the other, or one blade hits a rib, it will make the bolt lever to the side that opens 2nd, redirecting the momentum in the direction of least resistance. The rear deploying blades that only open after they are inside the animal would stop that problem. Personally I shoot a durable fixed blade Magnus

    I haven't used the 3" Swhackers yet (I just ordered a 3-pack, so I will soon). The Rage Trypan is great ... once. In just about every broadhead comparison I see, the Rage breaks first or close to it.
    I shoot Sevr Robusto 2.0" 150grn broadheads on a 550 grain arrow build from my Excalibur Assassin 420 TD. Sevrs are a similar design to the Rage, but much more durable. The blades pivot around when they clip bone so it doesn't deflect and go off in crazy directions inside an animal, and it has a screw which secures the blades in the retracted position so you can use the actual broadhead when sighting in and practicing. They come with a silcone band which shouldn't be installed on the broadhead while practicing... When you're heading out to hunt, remove the practice screw and place the band in place to hold the blades closed until the arrow is fired. In my experience the bands don't tend to break - they roll back onto the shaft on impact as the blades release, and are reusable afterward.

I'm guessing it opened up as it missed the target (40yds) by feet both X and Y and flew off loudly into the woods. The practice head was dead on. I'd try adding another oring but I don't want to loose another 30 bucks. Those are getting moved to my slower Ten Point. My modified Truglo Titaniums are holding a couple inches @ 40yds. Haven't tried the 125 gr Swhacker yet. AXE recommends only 100 and 125 gr so my #251s are out of the running.

    The two I'm going to try this year is the non o ring required xbow Rage Hypodermic and the NAP Sling blade Ti 2 blade this year. I won't beat a dead horse but the red collar hypodermics won't open at 390 fps out of my bowtech stryker solution ls. Yes the collars were installed correctly. Even had to send photos to Rage to prove it. Still have those broadheads. I'd send you a video to prove it if you'd like. Rear deploying cut on contact expandables are my choice. Big hole in and out. The reason I like the Gator style NAP Ti is that there is no collars or rubber bands. Held shut by inertia. The old Gator 100s would always leave 3" to 5" entry holes and just as large exits. I've 10 foot wide blood trails with double lungs shots. Deer would normally drop in sight. Wish they would still make them with the original style chisel tip. I believe the Tripan collars are different than the red xbow collars.

    @driftlesshunter9200 Год назад

    Swhacker #251 & #243 are identical. Ferrule diameters are identical (.350"), & they use the identical #246 replacement blades & rubber bands. The ONLY difference is the word "crossbow" on the package. I'm not being critical, but helpful if someone is shopping for them. If Walmart has the #243, buy them if that's what you want. As far as fixed blades go -
    A Slick Trick Magnum (their original broadhead) fixed 4-blade has a total cut of 2.25" (1 1/8" + 1 1/8" = 2.25"), which is more than a 2" Rage. Even the smaller ST Standards have a 2" total cut, because 1 + 1 = 2 in Math class. I realize some guys love to talk in one-dimension, but a 4-blade brodhead cuts in two-dimension, & I don't think it is fair to overlook that. As far as flight goes, SlickTrick Standards fly extremely well. Even a Swhacker has 1" blades sticking out in flight. I am not recommending or endorsing Slick Trick. I am just using them as an example of a fixed blade, because I know their dimensions without looking them up. If someone shoots the ST RaptorTrick X (very similar to a Swhacker), their total cut is 2" (no more than their 4-blade Standards). I can't argue that a 3" cut is close to throwing a small hatchet through a deer, but I might prefer the steel ferrules & flight of some fixed broadheads (especially when hitting bone). I don't like messing with small screws & rubber bands on my broadheads, but that's me.

    Rich I know I am off topic of your video but I was reading about the 2023 515 FPS. If my math is right, that is 172 yards in a second. That is as fast as my 45 ACP. Any thoughts?

    • @FDRGREG
      @FDRGREG Год назад +1

      Most loads and barrel lengths exceed or at least average 950 fps or so 45ACP at the muzzle. These 450-500 fps crossbows are doing roughly just 1/2 of that pistol velocity and still well below speed of sound. Arrow arch and string jump might be diminished some with these super fast bows but the industry has a long way to go still. Arrow drop and string jump are still big factors when hunting with today’s fastest crossbows. The gap is closing a little bit but it’s still a decent gap that needs consideration and respect when hunting. Archery hunting remains a close up sport even with the fastest gear made today. Your choice is your choice mine is about 50 and under depending on the game and circumstances.

      Hmmmmmmm. I kind of agree, but I had a discussion with someone, who pointed out that if you put the point of the blade up, the bevel is on the left... but it flies through the air like a right single bevel I think you are correct.

    the best one is the one that works. it is weird how makers of broadheads doesnt provide any videos of shots of the works of or any other data of the reliability of its broadhead. like a slowmotion shot into a carcass. are we just to believe it just works. or why not make a simulation block of jelly with parts simulating skin and bones

    I've got the No Collar Rage Hypos for Xbows and after broadhead testing with my cube, they flew just like my field tips did at 40 yards, which was my comfortable reliable max range. Beyond that, I can't say I could hit the half of the lung I aimed at. (My metric for ethical shot is being accurate enough to pick what half of the lung I want to shoot. If I shot for the forward half, but it ended up in the read half near the liver, it's a bad shot even if it's still double lung because it's not the forward half I aimed for.)
    I really want to try the Muzzy Trocar HBX because I'm into the hybrid idea, I like bleeder blades so cuts won't risk closing if muscles get tight enough during a run to restrict blood trails and there's a theory that fixed blades aid in flight stabilization. So if I can get a similar cutting width (sans a few eighths), but overall larger total cut (with fixed bleeders included) and a possibly more stable flight trajectory with a guarantee from fixed blades that even if the mechanical maim blades DON'T deploy that I still have a decent total cut size, it seems like I have an obligation almost to examine using what might provide the most ethical shot I can make in the future.
    But first, I've gotta burn through some of my hypos this season, which is proving difficult because even after a couple hours of target practice, the hypo testers are still 100% ready for the field with paper sharpness and no misalignment. They might just survive more than one deer, which I know is ideal, but ironically not exactly what I want when I see other broadheads I wanna test lol.

    Crossbow appreciation month may be over but someone needs to point out how ludicrous the CeaseFire system on the new Excalibur bows has become.
    Let the cocking rope piece fall out of a pocket or get lost and you won’t be a happy camper.
    The worst thing Excalibur has done to date is try and modernize a hunting platform designed for simplicity
