Lis, it is such a pleasure to read your comment. I feel similarly that Conrad Marca-Relli was not only a great artist but he was a great teacher as well.
Its a very good talk about the painting process and I agree that form, space, figure, abstraction as a dialogue of freedom, courage, invention, destruction. I also understand the process of painting as a kind of musical composition with rhythms, lines, plamages, and atmosphere
Conrad Marca-Relli was a New York School Abstract Expressionist artist. This period was later defined as The Abstract Expressionist Era." His "monumental collages" were hailed as a major art form. His works are in the collections of the leading museums of America and Europe and in private collections around the world.
Read about him in college. Had forgotten. Thanks for the refresher. Marca-Relli did some great work quietly on the periphery in my opinion. " making art with a safety-net." 😁

@EdgeworthJohnstone Marca-Relli like most of his fellow artists perceived the figure as they inspiration to start a painting with. Although many of the paintings ended up with no representational elements the figure always remained important in the art of most of the known American abstract expressionists. You have to be an artist, it seems, to understand this man. Otherwise his thoughts are so abstract, like his art. The idea of cancellation -- I knew exactly what he meant -- but had I not been an experienced artist I would have said, "Mmkay, whatever," and I would have turned off the video.
Another gem from this channel. One of the greatest art talks I've heard.
Hi de Hugo! It was a true pleasure to make his video. He was a great master and a good human being. Very best regards, Marika

9:50 and on are words that should resound on all corners of the world, What he is saying does not only apply to art.
And he goes and tokes at the end.
