In the Uk you have to pay for plastic bags from supermarkets and most shops now sell recyclable ones now, they are called bags for life, they are cloth or very strong plastic ones with proper handles, they also have recycle boxs for plastics in the supermarkets and also for batteries. We also have recycled kirbside collections. There is a lot less plastic around now since all of this was make law in the UK, We still have further to go supermarkets still use too much plastic for food. I am old enough to remmember when sweets used to be wraped in paper and cardboard or we had sweets sold in large tins, you only have to go back to the 70s, also we used to have returnable glass bottles for fizzy drinks, ten pence back for each bottle returned, we need to go back to that.

This is great awareness raising .......dont forget to mention we dont need any kind of straw.

I've stopped opening straws more than once or twice a week, & have mostly stopped using them. Yes, I can take the lid off a disposable cup & drink straight from the cup! Yes, bartenders always put a straw into my bitters & soda, which I tuck into my purse & add to the collection that I need to mail to the crew in Florida (my first package got returned, I'm not entirely sure why, though I have a larger envelope for my next try). Paper straws fall apart within minutes, metal straws get too hot or too cold, bamboo straws are beautiful, though I'd really rather do without them. Sure, straws can be useful if someone can't sit up in bed or other special circumstances, but if I don't need them, at least I can keep them from ending up in a turtle's nostril.

You are the fundraising master! So wonderful to provide jobs for so many locals and an income for yourself. If not for my retirement income my mission here in the Philippines would of never been. All help is volunteers including my full time self. Keep up the great work, I wanted to visit you but did not get reply back on email....Hope to come to Bali one day and see your PVC trash barriers.

I'm wondering if it would be possible to outlaw plastic straws in Bali. England has outlawed single use straws and it was a step in the right direction. I'm so glad you are stepping up to clean up the beaches and keep plastic out of the envirnoment.

I'm currently dealing with a foot injury or I'd have gone for a walk along the Rio Grande today with a bucket and some grabbers, and of course my phone, just to see what one inexperienced woman could do before this trash (most of it is trash!) reaches you in Bali, Florida, Guatemala, the Gulf of Mexico, or wherever. Maybe next weekend. At some point maybe I could gather a few people together, & eventually organize a 4Ocean Cleanup Crew in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The goal of course would be to bring an official 4Ocean team to lead us and connect us to resources to truly help your mission. These videos are showing me how vital a difference even one inexperienced woman in her 50s with a foot injury can make, and how event half a dozen of her family and friends can compound that difference. I know there's a 4Ocean community in Albuquerque; I've seen people wearing bracelets, and sent many coworkers, cashiers, etc. to your website. Organization is not my strong point, though the more I see from your crew, the more I want to get involved. Thank you for the inspiration!

I use a traditional milk man for my milk which is delivered to my door, my milk comes in glass bottles and you leave your empty bottles out for the milkman to recycle, they also do flavoured milk and fruit juices as well as eggs, cheese and yoghurts, everything is just left outside your door and you can buy a wooden box for your milk to go in. Its a bit more expensive than buying milk from the supermarket but it cuts out an awful lot of plastic. I use a firm called Modern Milkman which means you can order what you want on your phone and cancel it when you go away on holiday and you can change your order whenever you want to.

My parents used a dairy service when I was young. We'd sometimes go visit the dairy too, rather than having them come to us. It was awesome to have fresh milk, homemade butter or whipped cream, sample cheese curds sometimes, etc. The world is really missing out now that so many things have been made so commercialized!

Plastic straws, cutlery, stylofoam and plastic cups that takeaways used to use are now banned in the Uk. All takeaways now use cardboard boxs and paper straws and cardboard or bamboo cups, stylofoam packaging has been replaced by paper. I was shocked when someone posted a video of the difference between Macdonalds in Europe and the USA and they were still using plastic in the USA.

Hi. Im from the Netherlands. We also banned plastics for 1 time use. This is great. Having sad this, there is also a big negative side to this. Instead of using plastic, companys now switched to carton. Sadly, this carton is lined with pfas to make the carton water resident. So, we banned the plastics, but now we get pfas lined cartons instead. The industry is following new regulations, but im not sure the alternative is better….

Is it even viable to pick everything by hand? You should be developing technology to efficiently collect (and even shred right away) plastic from the beaches. The challenge is to make it effective, affordable and easy to use. Then go for the masses around all beach concessions over the world. Use the profits to keep cleaning places where those machines are of no use (e.g., mangroves).

We need to push government officials worldwide to impose a 5 cent deposit on all plastic bottles. They could recycle them and reduce plastic waste by 50%, at least.
