Napoleon's Final Victory: 1815 Historical Battle of Ligny | Total War Battle

The Battle of Ligny, in which French troops of the Armée du Nord under the command of Napoleon I defeated part of a Prussian army under Field Marshal Blücher, was fought on 16 June 1815 near Ligny in what is now Belgium. The result was a tactical victory for the French, but the bulk of the Prussian army survived the battle in good order, was reinforced by Prussian troops who had not fought at Ligny, and played a role two days later at the Battle of Waterloo. The Battle of Ligny was the last victory in Napoleon's military career.

All the way from England, much is made of the fact that the British/Allied forces did not support Von Blucher and the Prussian Army when they fought at Ligny, however when Blucher and Wellington had last met Wellington's promise of support was conditional on having NOT fought the French themselves.Blucher knew that the lack of British support meant they took had faced the French that's why the "Grand Old Man" of the Napoleonic Wars had no hesitation about supporting Wellington the next day.Bith men trusted each other implicitly and the battle proved it, Wellington trusted that Blucher would arrive and Blucher trusted that Wellington would fight until the Prussian Army arrived.It was mostly because of jingoistic accounts written long after Waterloo, often by those not present,by those who thought the denigration of Blucher and the Prussians somehow raised Wellington to greater heights that poisoned the post-war view of Wellington and Blucher's relationship.

@@TheSpritz0 Interesting fact it was Von Clauswitz who served as the main comms link between Blucher and Wellington,not a man known for incompetence, so yes Both men knew what each other's situation was.To many people ( probably out of jealousy) in both Germany and Britain have sought to gain reputation or clout from the disparagement of either General's actions when the truth is they fought like brothers and had nothing but respect for each other and their decisions oner that very long weekend.Both Generals always called Waterloo and ALLIED victory.

For future videos regarding historical battles, you should do the Battle of the Sabis (57 B.C.E.), the Battle of Silva Litana (216 B.C.E.), and the Battle of Artaxata (68 B.C.E.) for Rome II, and the Siege of Milan (452 C.E.), the Battle of Cartagena (461 C.E.), and the Battle of Vicus Helena (448 C.E.) for Attila. In regards to non-historical battles, you should do Carthage vs. Royal Scythia, Ardiaei vs. Massilia, and Kush vs. Pergamon for Rome II, and Vandals vs. Picts, Anteans vs. Langobards, and Aksum vs. Sassanid Empire for Attila. The destruction of Ligny as a battle of the nations brewed and boiled must've been terrifying for the townspeople. To think the French had the Prussian commander dead to rights at one point. This one was intense.

Im not very familiar with European history of this era.
I had no idea this much blood shed happened post French Revolution.
By comparison, the French and Indian War and later the war for independence had nothing like these casualties. These were in present day North America.
I dont understand why France kept this guy around. Image the culture of war?
The life Expectancy for a Frenchmen from 1790 to 1815 must been super low.
Ohh, the War of 1812 should have been with France, not England. Framce was doing the impressment kf Sailors like crazy. But the War Hawks wanted Canada. At least we got a solid national anthem out of it. The war was a draw, but it catapulted Andrew Jackson to presidency after the Battle of New Orleans, Jan 1815.
