the intro of this game still goes unbelievably hard after all these years
Underrated comment
In case anyone hasnt yet watched it a thousand times. Do yourself the favor and Look it up in different languages like french, russian or german.
My enemies are many
But my equals are none
@@tarik-d9y In the shade of olive trees, they said Italy could never be conquered.
Little advice for your live battles:
Artillery is a BEAST at killing cavalry, it’s the most efficient way to kill cavalry (I think that’s because the horses are tall so it makes a bigger target).
When playing light infantry you can activate an « escarmouche » mode (idk how to say it in English). It basically allows your unit to run away when the enemy gets to close. Since their range are higher than basic infantry, they can shoot and run pretty easily
I think the English word for it is “skirmish” mode, and if you have a mounted rifle unit you can use it to completely destroy the infantry on the enemy’s flanks, or just lead a specific enemy cavalry unit into an ambush, allowing you to win the cavalry battle quite easily.
Haven't played for quite some time, but from what I remember riots are basically unavoidable especially in certain provinces like Paris. Otherwise this is still my top 2 favourite total war game
Loving the non Hoi4 content!
Napoleon irl: *one of, if not the best general the world has ever seen*
Napoleon in Total War: *gets ambushed for the billionth time and loses yet another 99% of his troops*
Yeah, Napoleon should have reloaded the game!🤣
@@michealbohmer2871 hey maybe that's what he did in real life 🤔
@@forgotultag1543 Actually one could argue he did, in a roundabout way. He was defeated and sent to Elba then he came back.
@@michealbohmer2871and during his 2nd 3rd? Italian campaign he was defeated and came back with an even bigger army
Napoleon made what is widely considered as the greatest military blunder of all time we he retreated from Moscow and got 10/12th of his entire army destroyed....greatest general of all time? Not even close.
BS: So we're gonna make some trade agreements and improve relations.

I kinda messed up the audio leveling
@@Bitt3rSteeland I’m here for it. The beginning slapped hard.
I actually liked it, sounded pretty majestic.
The epic and suspenseful world of diplomacy.
This Hoi map looks weird
Seeing as you said to give advice: Generally you want to concentrate your early building a bit more. Roads are really, really good, especially in areas you are fighting in/nearby, but you want to get money going as fast as humanly possible to start with. If you can succesfully do naval trade, do that. Prussia cannot really do that for a while (France, Spain, Netherlands will find and kill your ships), so you want to build up aaaaall the merchant buildings and commercial docks, prioritising Berlin, and anything that provides wealth growth in all your cities. You're definitely right to focus on technology as well. As a general rule of thumb, don't bother with protectorates. Your "allies" will often declare war on them, then you're potentially against the whole world, and kinda screwed.
I'd also strongly recommend Darthmod to make the AI generally function better, and add more variety.
Good advice, thanks!
If you ever play as Russia, you don't need to do anything for a good 20-30 turns; just build farms and after a while you can print infinite money and recruit as much as you want, did it while in an MP campaign with a friend it was OP.@@Bitt3rSteel
@@Bitt3rSteel If you also want to get a better experience overall with the campaign part of this game, I'd suggest installing a mod called "La montee de l'Empire". Absolutely incredible with improved AI + you're able to get a lot more units. Darthmod is also good as well like OP said.
As for advice, I'd recommend going straight to the trade menu and trading with everyone as soon as. It bolsters up your economy which allows to have more corps.
@@Bitt3rSteelhighly recommend darthmod, gave it a try and it makes the game far more fun and challenging than the base game.
Darthmod is overrated
Based Napoleon Mindset:
1) Raise an army
2) Successfully falling to a Prussian Ambush
3) Lose 90% of the army from the Ambush
4) Napoleon refusing to elaborate the losses to the French General Staff
5) Repeat step 1
Never underestemate the sheer power of the canester shot. I've played games when multiple infantry charges don't even touch my cannons. It does get very annoying when you've pretty much won a battle but the enemy only has a single cannon group left and nothing can touch them.
You can merge damaged units on the campaign map, ctrl click multiple units of same type then ctrl+M. Useful if your army has taken heavy loses, it can make more space in a "full army" for more fresh units.
I'll be honest, I preferred Empire to Napoleon. It somehow managed to give this feeling of managing a colonial empire at times, with different theaters of operation that could still be supported by your European holdings. None of the other Total War games have managed that for whatever reason.
That said, I did play a Napoleon at one point, and decided to play as Sweden (in Empire, a valid and interesting choice. In Napoleon, not so much). Before I threw in the towel, I think there were about sic or seven "Heroic Victories" that managed to rack up in Hannover against the French, and at point defeated Napoleon himself in Denmark. I just wish they'd kept the map from Empire...
I love the total war stuff, started getting back into rome 2, hoping i can learn a thing or two from these videos on how the TW games work lol
41 seconds is crazy 4th like cray cray
Love your content 😊😊😊
Thank you so much 😁
Hello! your content
An experience I made for ambushes: If you deploy your troops on two sides of the enemy, the computer will always focus the weaker side and trying to cause as much damage as possible, that you can easily avoid by even fighting the ambushes in a linear way with all your troops amassed on one side.
Also: You can deploy cannons even before the battle starts, giving you a slight time advantage in firing, if you have a good position in the beginning. Not too sure, if the computer does it as well, but at least the odds would be even in this case.
I enjoy your videos on HoI IV very much, but this one was nice to watch as well. Some more won't hurt! :P
It’s here!!!! And this video did not disappoint!! Napoleon walking into ambush after ambush was pure gold! Another amazing video as always!
Hope you enjoyed it!
He walked into ambushes almost as much as other men walked into Josephine XD
Think you can do a new Huge-o-slavia achievement guide?
I can try!
@@Bitt3rSteel the man himself!
If you like line battles I recommend/ would like to see you playing Total War: Empire with Darthmod (very important detail, Vanilla is just bad). There you can play on more continents and navy battles take a more prominent role than in Napoleon.
Recommend Darthmod for napoleon empire is kinda poop
@@pandawastaaken true although there's always lme4
Darthmod is overrated
the only tip I would suggest you is to do the square formation earlier. you do it too late, at that point the men won't have enough time to organise themselves. Remember that for the formation to be effective, the men must be ROCK SOLID square, not moving. it's force it's not only "the square of bayonettes" but also the fact that they will shoot too. And if they engage with the cav BEFORE getting ready in square,it won't go well
Thanks for your vids
Glad you like them!
vive la france
I’m just gonna suggest Darthmod or ntw3 to play campaign mode. But if you ever want to look into multiplayer I’d recommend field command napoleon or ntw3 again. Love this game!
There is no shame in making the AIs combat difficulty easy or normal. All the difficulty for battles does is make you miserable. It's a load of horse crap
You should complete the campaigns (Italy, Egypt etc.)
you should try to play Germany in Kiserreich with max buffed international
Since you are into real time strategy and enjoy a world war 2 setting, I think you should try Company of Heroes 2! Despite including only battles and no "campaign" were you manage a nation's politics and economy it's pretty fun
On that same genre, men of war assault squad 2 or call to arms with the ww2 dlc would be cool to see too, but i do prefer COH2 cuz i love the missons for the rangers in the ardennes.
Steel Divison 2 is a shout too.
Ngl if you continue this series (as in total war gameplay) id say play shogun 2,empire/empire 2 mod,and maybe the rome series. Overall great vid
So glad to have more NTW content.
Would love to see you do either the actual campaigns in the game or more campaigns as different nations. It would be a lot better if you used Darthmod with the bigger unit sizes, or even NTW3. Haven't played the latter myself, but I hear it's good. Darthmod is great though.
if this was any other game i would complain about the loud music, but the music in this game is just THAT good i couldnt care less that its making me deaf
That soundtrack slaps
8:55 wanted to say "Twee vliegen in een klap" there?
How you show your line formation troops?
I tried searching on internet but never got anything about it
Bit annoying the Prussian flag is by like 70 years off.
bitt3r if you want advice, I always put my skirmishers on the flanks. overlapping fire is powerful but sometimes the friendly fire is just too devastating to the line infantry. it’s been a while since I’ve played NTW and I’ve kinda forgot the economy system but roads are incredibly good and I always keep taxes low to prevent revolts which can be really draining.
oh yeah and square formation makes cav useless, the only problem is that in square they are sitting ducks to artillery and musket fire. but as a whole, cav, especially heavy cav, suck. theyre slow tired quickly and are best used as anti cav, light cav on the other hand is amazing and taking out artillery, skirmishers, and bad or wavering/fleeing infantry + general units. but to give u credit, ur encircling tacts are genuinely some of the best that ive seen, its masterful.
HOI4 ANNOUNCED A NEW DLC!!!
had a long day today but thanks to yours video I am feeling much better now.
Glad I could help

"Using the motto of never fight a fair fight"
Sun Tzu would be proud.
My favorite move as a weak nation (for example Ottomans or Sweden, made playable via mod) is to march all my armies off the capital, crank taxes, and then side with the revolution when it rises up. Due to the high discontent, the revolutionary army will be extremely high quality and you can walk it into the capital to immediately regain control of your nation (and the old army), effectively having done an instant recruitment campaign at the cost of having a Republican government.
I played a Napoleon Total war game as Russia in the first fight with the French Napoleon was in charge.
I rolled 6lb horsey cannon up and fired, it bounced and killed Nappy.
I literally just didn't know what to do after that. He's dead GG. I win?
Empire was my first total war game. Prussia was my first campaign. We both immediately bully the lil man for his land.😂
Hey BS, figured I'd say since I'm coming back to watch all of these videos; please, do more! I can imagine the HOI-Tuber description is limiting sometimes, especially with the demands of the audience, but I'd love for you to play other games you might enjoy. As a fellow Napoleon player, I think you did rather well. I'm no expert, and I'd never play on harder AI difficulties, but good job mate.
third
I don't know Prussia's strats that well, but as Britain all you need to do is build a good army with Wellington and invade mainland France, or invade Spain and take Madrid and work your way down. And recruit lots of trade ships, send those trade ships (protected by your navy of course) to the trade points off the coast of gibraltar, there you can trade sugar iirc and that being one of the most expensive ones in the game is a money printer.
+ Like another person said, roads will be your best friend, generally you wanna build roads up to the improved ones wherever you are planning to be the most.
Didnt know you play that game.
Some advice:
- draw line infantry lines bit thinner than recommended by the game (three lines). Only the first line fires and the two others are idle. Two lines do the job and provide 50% more firepower for the short battles a human player fights. Additionally you extend your lines and make it more difficult for the ai to sourround your flanks.
- do not put artillery units into one large block. Infantry should be nearby to defend it if it gets into melee (which the artillery will lose). I-A-I-A-I-A-I is a better muster than I-I-A-A-A-I-I.
- do NEVER deploy artillery on the flank. That leaves the way to attack it from the side. Cavalry will always massacre them. Artillery must not have more ways to approach it than the direct path towards it's fire. Infantry belongs to the flanks, since it can form a square.
- do always have more infantry than artillery.
- Keep (at least) one infantry in a reserve behind the line to deploy it where needed.
- Use a square for the infantry on the flank.
- light infantry can kneel down in front of line infantry. That increases concentrated firepower on the spot.
- use the light infantry's ability to ram stings into the ground. Best in front of the artillery. Enemy cavalry might be challenged to attack the artillery there. You can also do that on the flanks to protect of cavalry there.
- some units of sharpshooters have extended fire range. They can very effectively kill charging cavalry. Deploy them in front of the line infantries on the two flanks.
- spies can sabotage army movement for one turn. Useful to block armies of supporting each other.
- turn every possible building into universities. Any slot can have two possible categories of buildings. And they can be converted between each other.
- for a long game, let the universities research the humanities. They increase research speed in return, then focus economy. Only for a short game, go after the army techs only.
Lore of Humiliating Napoleon over and over... Momentum 100
The Napoleonic Total War III is a greater challenge as well.
Cant create unlimited forces as each unit has limitations, France has the largest roster in it, would love to see you try it as France fighting and conquering the whole map.
Also:
For Prussia, ive played and won at least 3 campaigns as Prussia. You can change your government type (either turn taxes for the Upper class all the way up and untax everything but the capital to get a Monarchy/Constitutional Monarchy; or turn taxes all the way up for lower classes and just tax the capital to get a Republic, fixes all public order issues the entire campaign.)
I found the easiest route for Prussia is allying with Russia or France, focusing on the minor nations to build a strong foundation, then either move to France or Austria depending on your alliance. Taking out Scandinavia also helps.
And:
Napoleon Bonaparte has a very weird Auto-Resolve that makes it ALWAYS in favor of him. I think it was a way to show Napoleon's strength so you dont just roflstomp the AI army with him as General each time, having to play the battle and while winning, you can still lose quite abit of forces from it each time. As the French, he is strong, but not nearly as strong.
Imagine not playing Napoleon in Napoleon's game.
man, about a half of your loses in the battle from friendly fire. place your troops more properly and dont forget to click "stop fire" where you cavalry charges into enemy ranks
Haven't shot your own men yet ... I don't believe you are playing Total War Napoleon as that's a requirement lol. (Edit: Also I hate the AI in the older games, Empire and Napoleon are really bad about Allies just war dec'ing on you for no damn reason)
Okay now this gotta be some god sign, I literally got interested into Napoleon Total War a single hour ago and started to look for videos on the game. How ? How are you making a video about this game just NOW lmao
Personally, when I play NTW I’d rather have 2 really powerful armies instead of 3-4 half build armies. Makes it so much easier to destroy France.
Some battle tips for you:
1. Put your skirmishers in skirmish mode *infront* of your line infantry since they can shoot above them, not skirmishers behind as your causing friendly fire, this goes for all units, apart from artillery, artillery will blast skirmishers infront of them, canister or grape shot, the only one that this doesnt apply for is mortars which shoot up and above not straight on, but mortars should be put in the back due to this, Artillery friendly fires all units and can get friendly fired.
2. Use cavalry to destroy artillery and skirmishers
3. Seek favourable cavalry engagements, use hussars to destroy heavier units, lancers to destroy hussars, dragoons are like in betweens and are ok at destroying heavier cavalry units and infantry but not light cavalry, use heavy dragoons/cuirassiers to destroy infantry but can still be effective against other cavalry units.
4. For light cavalry that have carabiners with them, make sure to take off fire at will mode if you are doing a massed cavalry charge since they will friendly fire different units.
So I've watched so many videos of you and here you are
Playing Total War
Maybe Rome, original?
Just to complete this fall in love 😹🙏
An advice for the battles and army composition, for Prussia in particular but for other nations to, don't use light infantry as line infantry they are ecxellent for the range but they don't have staying power, yuo can recruit prussian fusiliers wich are a mix of light and line infantry, you should positin light infantry before your line infantry because they can kneel and they will not get shot by the second line, you want to form up your army around your artillery and keep it safe for maximum killing power with cannister shot, always look for high ground in particular for defensive positions, you really should bring 4-5 cavs for artillery clearing and rear charges, the main strenght for prussia is it's light infantry wich is the second best in the game behind Portugal and it's granadiers and light cav are pretty good to, ther are other things but this should be a decent summary for land battles
"You could play if you want? I high ly recomend you the great war western front and play the central powers/german empire why not? Who doens't want to play the mighty german empire🗿?
If you like artillery try Shogun 2 Fall of the samurai. This is THE Total War game with guns small and big. At least in my opinion.
I should get back in to total war. Does anyone remember Kessen from back in the day? That’s the game that got me in to these types of games lol. I wish I could play it again
The level of friendly fire in these battles is insane. Like an entire line regiment or more's worth of casualties per battle.
Aw god YEEEEEEEEEES, Bitt3rSteel playing my crush Napoleon TW as Prussia. I'm on my day off, it's raining and the game already finished the download 💘
It holds up so well
My dream game is Empire with Napoleon's combat and Warhammers graphics@@Bitt3rSteel
為甚麼這麼多霧氣?? 戰場上幾乎看不到甚麼細節
Gunsmoke, actually. A result of the actual battle going on
the reason why it said that you are gonna lose in the auto resolve when facing napoleon is because he has 9 stars, and even when napoleon has a shitty army, it will still outpower you in the auto resolve also when aiming with artillery aim at the ground right below the infantry or calvary if you dont the artillery can overshoot it on a regular basis
I think the Auto resolve is terrible on purpose so that the player doesn't just auto resolve everything. In Warhammer too.
You know what would be interesting if you sent a disaster battle to legend of total war

Small piece of advice, you can make a unit advance in “phases” by pressing the shift key (I think that’s the default keybind) and right clicking (like you’d normally do) it’s really useful if you want to flank the enemy with your cavalry. It can also be used to avoid traps that the ai is to stupid to recognise, just like when your dragoons charged straight into the spikes.
Bro got tired of winning in hoi and decided to switch game 💀💀💀
You said that you would appreciate help in NTW (Napoleon Total War). Since I decided to play games instead of living a real life, I would be able to give you some secrets and tricks for the campaign as well as for the battles. If you are interested, just let me know. i love hoi, but i am enjoying the shift towards a bit of tw as well
edit: quick tip, you can make your artillery more effective by shooting the ground in front of the unit your trying to hit, because empire/napoleon artillery targets the flanks of units
I play somewhat similarly, however I focus on upgrading my magistrates before the roads. I’m not really bothered by the slightly better movement range with increase infrastructure
can you do total war shogun maybe?
Maybe try the seven years war mod next
I’ve been playing empire and napeleon total war for years, empire is still probably my favorite total war game and is so underrated, and the game is only 2 years younger than me
